We're about to undertake our first visit to WDW after years of DLR visits. I think I've got a pretty good handle on how DAS works at WDW, but I'm still unclear on one thing: can we use the DAS for the various meet and greets at EPCOT World Showcase like Belle, Mary Poppins, Snow White, etc?

No, sorry. DAS can only be used for character greetings that offer FP. The random meet and greets of the characters you mentioned do not qualify.

Thanks for the info! We're doing several character meals, so hopefully we'll cover most of these characters there.

One thing about most of the meet & greets in World Showcase is that the lines are outside and it's easy for someone to rejoin their party. I'm assuming that the DAS holder is likely a child in this case. If you have two adults , one can wait in the line while the other walks around or waits somewhere else with the child. Then when the adult waiting in line is getting close to the front, the other adult and child can rejoin the line.

I was just going to post this. Jasmine, Belle, Alice, Mary Poppins, Mulan all usually meet outside so you could easily wait in the shade, look around a store, watch some music, get a snack and still see the rest of your party in line.

EXCELLENT tip; thank you! This will help out a great deal.

You may also want to make the people behind of you aware you are doing this. Sometimes my friend waits in lines for me while I sit somewhere and we have found there are better results when she tells the people I'd be "cutting" that her friend is waiting over there and will be joining her than when I show up and she hasn't said anything.

Good idea.
And, it's best to wait close by, but out of the way, rather than roaming around. Most people who have someone wait outside of the line have one person plus the person with the special need. Other guests get angry if they see one person ahead of them, who is joined by a large group or a group that was out of sight the whole time.

Many people also talk to the the CM accompanying the character to let them know they are going to be waiting to the side. That is helpful for the CM for planning.

I was going to mention this. We do this often. We just tell the CM that my son can not handle the line so he and I are going to wait to the side in the shade while the rest of of my family waits in line. We only had one time where a Cm told us it was not allowed, I think she was new because there was another CM with her and he came over and told her that it was fine as long as a member of our party waited in line and it was for a medical reason.

Thanks for the advice all! I'll have to scope out the situation when we get there, but from the description I'm thinking these lines won't present a problem for my daughter. She has a sensory processing disorder and can suffer extreme anxiety attacks when in a crowd of people in an enclosed space for too long. Usually outside lines don't present a problem, so hopefully we'll be good!

When we have been the lines generally are not very long and move pretty quickly. My son can not have people in his personal space and has issues in the sun. The last time we where in line to meet Aladdin the line was in the shade so we gave it a shot with him with us. Some kids got into what I would consider his personal space, but there was a duck just on the other side of the fence we where waiting against that kept him so preoccupied that he did not notice.
At least being outdoors there are more distractions.

over the last 2 days we have done Epcot and I agree.. short lines overall. never saw Mary Poppins but Alice and others were maybe 15-20 deep. longest line I saw was them chipmunk dudes.
