Hello, Sorry if this was already talked about
Have a couple questions in regard to the New DAS system as we are going in Feb and using for the first time.

1. Can DAS sell out like Genie +? Meaning if we goto Hollywood Studios a little late around 12, can Rise of the Resistance not have any DAS left for the day?
2. If the above can be sold out, can return time be really late in the day, You get to the park at 10am and can your first DAS for Rise be at 6pm?
3. If your DAS return time is over 3 hours, is it like Genie + where you can make an additional DAS in the meantime? Or are you stuck waiting the 3 hours and just do other stuff in the meantime?

This is our first time with DAS, my sister has used it in the past before the new system and she said back then you would get a return time based on the Standbye wait time. So usually not more than an hour except for rides like Avatar Flight and Rise of the Resistance.

Thanks for any info

No, DAS isn't tied to return times like Genie. The DAS return is a function of the ride's CURRENT wait time when you make the selection. It doesn't ever run out until the standby line is closed at the end of the night.

You can only hold one DAS return at a time. So, if a ride has a 180 minute standby wait, yes, you will have to wait 3 hours to get another DAS. You can only get a new DAS once you've redeemed the one you have OR you cancel it. If you change your mind, you can cancel it.

The best way to use a DAS is to choose rides with lower standby waits so you can get more done. Book a longer wait time ride right around when you plan to break for meals, so a lot of your wait time will be spent eating.

The only thing that is new about the system is the ability to schedule your own DAS return times in the app.

The prev poster answered the same things I was going to post.
There are only 2 things that changed compared to how DAS worked previously:
- guests can choose to register for DAS using a video chat OR in one of the Theme Parks (which was previously the only way to register)
- guests can make DAS Return Times using My Disney Experience in addition to the previous way.
Other than those 2 things, DAS has not changed.

The first post in this thread has up to date info about how DAS works currently.
WDW DAS Summary

Lol, i did not see the first post on the Forum
We already registered and are good to go. I like that the return time is based on Wait times.
Definitely will try and arrange the longer wait times around meals. Hopefully stuff like Rise wont be 3 hour waits but probably will be

Thanks

1 No DAS can not sell out

2 the das is wait time - 10 minutes so if at 10:00 the wait is 90 minutes you will return in 80 minutes

3 you can hold one DAS time at a time just like you can be in one line at a time

It is still like it used to be at the park end of things just now you can use your phone

Sorry to piggyback onto this thread. I just started researching DAS and Lightning Lane for our June trip and came upon this thread.

Can you leave the park and re-enter during your wait time with a DAS? Like, if the wait time for our DAS was 180 minutes for ROTR right before lunch, could we return to our hotel for an afternoon break to wait it out, or do you have to remain in the park?

Yes. You can leave and come back later.
The DAS Return Times obtained in the park stay active until used, cancelled or the park/attraction closes for the day.
During your wait, you can do other attractions, eat, do care if needed or leave the park for a break.
If you haven’t seen it, the first post on this WDW DAS summary thread should help answer your questions. It’s a little bit messy; it was being written in real time as the changes were happening and I haven’t had time to tidy it up yet.

Thanks! A deep dive into that thread is on my "to-do" list.

"3 you can hold one DAS time at a time just like you can be in one line at a time"
How does this work when you're given 2 precooked attractions prior to arrival? Ex: I have a DAS for TOT at 10am, and a second for Smugglers at 5pm, so at what point can I book something else from MDE?

think of the two prebooked ones as the old Faastpass. you did not have to use your FP before your DAS

The DAS Advance Selections you get in connection with doing video DAS registration are totally separate from DAS Return Times you get in the park.

The DAS Advance Selections don’t need to be used before you can make or use DAS Return Times. You would be able to book your first DAS Return Time as soon as the person registered for DAS has entered the park.
(DAS Return Times can be booked using the My Disney Experience app, by getting one from the CM at the attraction or from the blue Guest Experience umbrellas)

We are hear now and you can book additional selections as soon as you are scanned into the park. But do note that if you are in the park before the early entry time for resort guests officially starts, you can only book shows, but as soon as it is 30 minutes before opening, you can book any DAS eligible attraction. Obviously this only applies to resort guests, if staying offsite, you don't get early entry and will have to wait until the park opens for all guests to get your first return time in the park.

Booking the next time after that can be done as soon as you have hit the final scan point for the attraction you currently have a DAS for. Most attractions have two scan points, but some only have one.

The advanced DAS are basically a separate system, the CM DH spoke with called them bonus return times as a thank you for preregistering.

Interesting! Did you attempt asking a blue umbrella CM? Others have reported being able to get a DAS return time during early entry by going to a blue umbrella.

We were in studios a bit after 8 and only had the option to book das for shows. At 8:30 we could book for the rides that were open. We did not go to a blue umbrella. At MK at 8:30 they let us book das for rides when early entry started.

You can get it during early entry, what I am saying is if they let you in more than 30 minutes before the park opens to regular guests, you can only get them for shows until exactly 30 minutes prior to park opening. Also you can't get a return time for any attraction that doesn't officially open for the early entry time. For example Kilimanjaro Safaris doesn't officially open until the park opens, so you can't get a return time. But unofficially, they opened about 15 minutes prior to park opening. Of course there was no wait at that point, so not a big deal. But some things to be aware of.

Got it! Sorry, I got confused. I appreciate the explanation!

Now, here is something interesting that happened this morning and more than once. We got a return time before the park opened, when booking it said it would be valid after a certain time, but they were available for use immediately. Not sure if that is normal or not,as wait times for other attractions were 15 minutes or less on our other days before the park opened.

When you say before the park opened, is that before early entry? Maybe the park was open for early entry for on-site guests, so wait times were posted, so you were able to get return times? Or are you saying you got the return time before the on-site early entry started?

Yes, the park was open for early entry guests, but not others.

For example Ratatouille was a 30 minute wait, so when booking the DAS, it said it would be usable after 8:45 AM, but then as soon as I booked it said use anytime today. So we tried and it let us go straight on through the Lightning Lane. We theb booked for Frozen which did the same thing. As soon as the park officially opened, it went to the normal method of being available after the applicable wait time. I am not sure if this is normal or not, but it appear that during early entry, wait times do not apply to DAS or at least they didn't today. But as soon as the park officially opens they do. This would make some sense as it takes longer for those with disabilities to get around and into the parks, making early entry not as effective for most, so DH and I are thinking it may be a way to help make early entry more worthwhile for those with a DAS, but not sure, as it could also have been a glitch.

That’s super interesting! Whenever there isn’t an official wait time, automatic access is granted… so, it seems the app isn’t recognizing early hour wait times (which are usually pretty inflated anyway) and that’s why it’s allowing immediate access ?? Time will tell if that continues or not.
