DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I need clarification regarding the new DAS.

My husband has had back surgery and also has a pinch nerve in his hip. He not only has trouble walking for a long distance, but also cannot stand for very long without being in serious pain. This will impact our trip significantly. We can provide documentation if necessary. I know we can get him a wheelchair for the walking issue, but standing is a far worse issue.

Am I reading correctly that the program has changed and now only people with developmental disabilities now qualifies?

Just wanted to add to all of the answers that you may want to rent a mobility scooter so that no one has to push him through the lines.

I’m sorry that your husband is struggling. Do you have a plan for him to help deal with pain? Can you go back to the hotel for him to lie down if needed? If not perhaps head to first aid?

Hopefully you can slow down your trip and just enjoy being there together, even if it isn’t the trip that you initially envisioned.

Mobility issues do not get approved under the new rules. You will also be able to use the wheelchair for the lines as well. The majority are streamlined for a wheelchair to go all the way to the point of boarding a ride, so he should not have to stand long at all.

Does he need to change positions frequently? He can use the wheelchair as a walker when standing/walking and sit to be pushed when he needs to sit.

No, he can sit for a while.
