DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

Yes, but if employees are telling people “you should be getting it”, that is obviously a bad thing from a company standpoint.
I fully agree it reflects poorly on a company for it's employees to basically be saying this policy is bad, but your point was that it was not helpful to reduce DAS usage, which it certainly is. It means cast members are in fact following stricter rules even if they don't like it.

And while being potentially bad for publicity, it's also good for deterrence. I have a feeling the fact that so many people are saying they're being denied is convincing at least some people, whether they would qualify or not, to not even try.

Noticing on a couple of other sites that a few people are saying that the CMs on the call are saying things to the effect that they agree that the person should probably have a DAS, but they can't issue them one.

If true, that's not at all helpful to Disney's effort to reduce DAS use.
I assume some of this is what I’ll charitably call “wishful mishearing”— a cast member is making generally sympathetic comments like “I understand why it would be helpful in your situation” or “I do understand you used to qualify and nothing has changed in your condition” etc., or perhaps even an empathetic (or badgered) CM says “I would give you one if I could”— but I seriously doubt many CMs are actually saying “you should probably have a DAS but I can’t give you one.”

So Disney’s solution is to deny DAS, and say if you’re having a flare, use RTQ. Harsh (compared to DAS) but arguably fair, and less prone to abuse.
Not quite. Disney expects that individual and their party to use AQR -- and if the individual needs to leave the queue they will be instructed how to re-join their party. Not RTQ. AQR is the recommended accommodation for nearly all who are denied DAS.

That leads to the question about what people are supposed to do then when they are basically alone...

Yep. I should have said AQR, my bad.

Um... in that particular scenario, the individual would be using the restroom. A diabetic might leave the queue to get something to eat/drink. Someone sensitive to heat may go find shade or A/C. Leaving the queue is to take care of a disability need that arises. What one does is likely to differ based on their needs. When they are ready I believe they come back to the attraction queue area so they can re-join their party.

I would like to offer another perspective. I follow along on my iPad. Sometimes when I am trying to scroll, it tries to post a quote instead. I have a hard time deleting those phantom posts. I typically have to delete the content and leave the thread to make them disappear. Maybe whoever you’re referring to runs into the same issue.
The poster in question for deleting their posts is notorious for doing this (post comments then later on delete basically all of them) on many threads leading to high frustration among many posters. But I do think your perspective is valid and probably happens (my phone loves to do weird stuff when I'm trying to do things on the DIS especially emjois lol) to some posters :)

Maybe I misinterpreted their question, but what if there is no party to return to because you are alone? If you waited quite some time in line and had to leave, it still seems unclear how that would be accommodated to account for your wait since it’s not as simple as meeting your party at their current spot.

Sorry, my bad! I was thinking the question was what do people do while outside the queue until they can re-join their party. If you are a solo party the CM will instruct you what to do. This may be one of the limited situations when a RTQ is issued.

I meant if they do not have a party to return to. As in solo traveler, or with young children only.

I just looked at that person’s posts. Almost two pages of nothing but periods in the search results.

A wheelchair or ECV aren’t appropriate for our needs. Jet lag usually lasts for a week so the second week is better for evening activities. The issue is that we don’t ‘desire’ less time in the queue we actually can’t do a long time in the queue in close proximity to other people. I absolutely realise that we are fortunate to be able to visit (with our children in the past and now with our grandchildren) but with our new situation that can’t happen without DAS
If close proximity is the issue, how are you handling that issue on the plane ride to Disney? If masks are the solution, could you also wear masks in the park?

This. More likely than not happened. Recalling exact wording gets jumbled.

on QA, if that CM did say something along the lines of should get, but denied, that CM will get a significant retraining tag.

I just created this account for the purpose of asking a question on here because Facebook groups have become extremely toxic.

Has there been adults with medical conditions approved for the new DAS? I understand it’s a case by case basis depending on your needs and why you cannot wait in a traditional line. It’s the “developmental disabilities” wording on Disney’s website that has been throwing me off. Is that all they have been approving for the new DAS? Does anyone know?
very few that do not have cognitive disability are being approved, even adults who ptsd 100% disabled vetsare being denied.
