DAS card @ DW

Hi we are here at the moment with our son Alex who has downs- the days of just turning up and doing what ever ride you fancy and joining the fast pass queue are gone.
I think that in the past the scheme was heavily abused by people. Let's be honest it was wrong to allow parties of 6 people to be allowed to skip the line and questionable that everyone who got a pass genuinely needed one.
So today was our first disney day, we went to guest services where the cm asked us why we needed the pass and we explained that Alex would not be able to tolerate or understand having to wait a long time.
I understand that they need to ask the nature of the disability and I don't have a problem with that however other people could possibly not wish to discuss it in a roomful of strangers!
The lady took a pic of Alex with an iPad and we were given a das card. She booked 3 fast pass rides through the tickets for us which if you download the app in advance you can do yourself.
I think because we were unsure of how it worked she has also booked us 3 rides for magic kingdom tonight. I recommend that you book your fast passes on line before you go.
In my opinion people with a learning difficulty are going to struggle with the new system.
Such a shame that it was so readily abused in the past.

Not sure I follow this post about you being refused a DAS when you previously said in your thread about FP and DAS that you got a card no problem at MK in about 3 minutes? As I understand it you can take back both cards for this trip and they should issue new ones without any problem.

That post was from back in October.
I have been back since I had those cards, when I went there was in the change over period and they was only issuing the cards for a wk at a time, you then had to go back and have the card re-issued!

I was refused when I went back to renew the card and told that I did not qualify and that the reason I was issued the card was due to the fact some CMs was still following the old Gac rules!!
So for the next 10 days we had to only use my son's which was re-issued!

I do not have either card now,as we are forces family and have just moved house..

I may end up with the not able to wait in line type symptoms - if we wait for about 50mins and my DD's blood sugars start to rise thus we need to leave so she can go back on her pump - I will end up having a melt down - Would I qualify then :rotfl:

Can people post on here how they get on trying get the das card in the near future - I will report back to this thread in Aug.

I will post back as soon as I have an experience with the Das next wk,

Hoping it will go well, :)
I was really happy when the change 1st occurred as it all went very smoothly as you would see when I did the 1st post after the change.about using Das and fp together

However those changes wasn't to stay and it all changed again.

That's what I was thinking too for myself.

This thread got me a bit worried that I may not get the DAS on our next trip
but, come to think of it, I only used the DAS for 4 or 5 rides over our 21 days stay.
I must admit that the parks are not our main objective during a WDW stay.

But this might change our strategy. I planned on booking 3FP+ afternoons/evenings, and add some DAS in between, and keep mornings for waterparks, shopping, disneyquesting or crazy golfing, but I might just switch to RDs with morning FP+s and pray for more rolling FP+ after we use our first
3

no biggie, just back to the drawing board :p

my thinking as well..
FP+ in the morning, and hope for additional ones in the afternoon...
and maybe the DAS if it helps

i just noticed this post - yikes - having to go back for the second week?
that's difficult.
meaning we have to wait yet again.
even that waiting is more waiting which is adding more waiting on top of the waiting.
difficult.

I know it was insane! And the lines at GS can.be really long.
They was going to change it again to 2wks or length of stay if you are staying on site.
Well I'll see next wk if they have changed it yet again lol x

i hope they change it.
as you said, the lines at GS can be insanely long.

i guess we'll be sure to go to one of the parks on the day we arrive.
We don't always do that, but i'll make sure we do, so that we can get the DAS card out of the way in the afternoon/evening rather than in the morning when we'll be busy heading to attractions.

So sorry I must missed your second trip using the DAS and FP where you had problems as you were so positive having been only a week after the change over last October and that it worked fine for your whole trip.

As regards any changes to policy Sue on the Disabilities board is really good at keeping both the WDW and DL threads up to date. I guess any queues at GS will be in keeping with how busy the particular park is on a particular day and if the park you chose to go to has EMH.

I don't know if this helps but we just got back and I was given a DAS card. I had always got a GAK before and was super nervous because I had read about the difficulties of getting the DAS. I got mine in DHS. We went for SWW so we went the day before that started. No line in GS. I said I would like to be considered for a DAS card. The CM said sure we can have a conversation. I explained why it would be helpful to me , staying focussed on my non mobility issues ( I also am physically disabled but didn't want them to be side tracked by that ) and she granted one right away! Very nice. I have AP so it stays on file. Took my photo. Valid for length of stay. Got first ride of the day minus 10 minutes.

Experience was that it takes some getting use to if you have used the GAK. You have to use it with FP+. One downside is having to go to the ride to get a return time. I found this quite tiring. Although they say somebody can go and get it for you I can't be left alone for long. I already suffered a bad fall on the same vacation and experienced the wonderful medical care in DHS first aid! So me and DW both had to go to the attraction get a return time and go wait somewhere else. If you don't FP+ As well this makes it very tiring. We soon got the hang of it and next time we will be better. I think they could have kiosk in the middle of the park that could give you a return time save going to the ride or those FP+ folk that stand in the middle of the park could do it. I haven't been but I understand that's what they have in DisneyLand.

Hi
Just an update- we went to MK last night and found that the new system was ok. I really recommend that you pre book the first 3 rides! We would get a time for the next ride, the cm will knock 10 mins off the wait time, we would then do the fp+ ride
We did all the rides that we wanted to do

Yes I was really happy with the way things was back in October, had no problems and felt the process was pretty simple.

It's a shame it all changed quite dramatically for non conginitive issues once the change over period was done.

I'm sure if you follow the disabilities board you will know what I'm on about, when.it comes to how many people have had problems and upset.

sounds ok.
i agree the running back and forth adds an element of difficulty to it.
we'll have to plan more than we have in the past.
with the GAK we could play it by ear.
which is important because it's impossible to know when DSIL will have to go back to the room to rest.

oh well. We'll make it work.

Exactly. I would like to feed that back to Disney actually. Our lives are very unpredictable. Half days in the park are common. We don't want to spend it going back and forth to rides.
