Hi All... :)

Has anybody had the experience of the new DAS system used at DW ?

Our DD suffers with spastic diepligia and struggles to stand still for longer periods so we have previous used the GAC system when the stand by lines are really long.

Just wondered if the new system has changed much to the old ???

:thumbsup2

The new system requires that you obtain a return time for attraction which is the standby less 10 minutes then you return and enter through the FP line.

Basically the DAS no longer gives immediate access to all rides however it does mean you can wait somewhere else or grab a drink or use a FP while waiting for your return time.

I thought it was along those lines, so if standby was 70 mins at 12pm we would get a 1pm to return to the ride and enter via FP line ????

I totally understand why DW have done this I have a bad feeling that the old system was abused by lots of people :guilty:

We used the DAS back in Feb with my DS who has Autism. It was fine to use , maybe need a little more planning but if you combine it with Fastpass + you can have a fun and comfortable day ;)

The old system was abused as it was just a card with no photo or anything on it. People with these cards were charging people to have them as part of their group pretending to be a family and jump queues all day, it was exposed on a news programme, might be worth looking on youtube to see what all these scumbags were up to.
I would contact Disney to get clarification on the new system, I believe you have to have photo ID, but, I'm not 100% certain. Try searching the whole of disboards too as I'm sure someone will know how it works now.

Cant believe people would do that !!! :sad1:

You understand correctly :goodvibes

You will need to take your DD to GS now when the card is issued as it will have her photo on it.

You can obtain a return time without her but she must ride for it to be valid. You can also only hold one return time at a time (a bit like old FP where you could only get one FP at a time). You either have use or lose the return time before getting another. There is currently no end time on the window - so in your example above you could ride anytime after 1pm but couldn't get another time until you had or you would lose your original ride.

However if the needs are mobility related,I.e can't stand they will tell you to get a wheelchair and you will not get a Das card as you won't qualify,
So from that point the Gac to Das has changed alot.
We used the card last yr and apart from having to criss cross lots and plan alot more we coped.

I have arthritis in my right hip and knee this does not mean I require a wheelchair to walk but it does mean that standing for anything over 10 mins is very painful. I was going to try and get a DAS does this mean they will just tell me to get a wheelchair ??? I thought you didn't have to explain the medical problem to the CM to get one ??

You don't have to tell them your condition but you do have to be able to succinctly explain what your needs are. For you, your needs are that you are not able to stand for long periods of time and, therefore, they are likely to tell you to rent a wheelchair or use an ECV.

I have a couple of wonky knees and severe osteoporosis but not ready for a wheelchair yet :)

Using FP+ I just didn't go into a queue that I thought would be too long and for the likes of Fantasmic just mentioned I couldn't manage the stairs and they slipped me in to the disabled seating.

But I don't need an ECV or wheelchair I am able quite to walk it would quite inappropriate to hire a wheelchair just to push it around empty and then use it to sit in a queue and then get up and get onto a ride :(

The only thing you can do is going and speak to GS but on everything I have seem Disney put out on the DAS anything they consider to be "stamina issues" ie not standing for a long period is solved by a wheelchair or ECV :confused3

We shall see what GS say when we are there.. DD is 8 and does not need a wheelchair or ECV , her condition is a minor form of cerebral palsy , I would never play on her condition and nor would I expect DW to expect an 8 year old to use a wheelchair when it'd not needed.. Thanks for your help all...

I thought wheelchairs didn't fit through all the queue areas? If I've got that right, how does it work?

Unfortunately you will be told that you should rent a Ecv or wheelchair,as you do have to explain your requirements which would be sorted by the above means.

We used the new DAS system and it worked fine, shame it had to change due to the odd fool! I really wish they would ask for proof of disability though, we always carry ours as his care plan should be with him 24/7 in case of emergency but everytime i have gone to show them they say there is no need :confused3
We did queue 1/2 of the shorter line rides and ds cant stand for very long as we were able to take his chair through the regular lines with no problems :thumbsup2

Most que areas have now been redone so.that they fit wheelchairs through the mainstream line,
There is a select few rides where a wheelchair does not fit and when approaching the ride you will be given a return time, however you will not be given a Das card for this,as when they see the mobility device that will be enough.

It's really unfortunate that they have decided to use these methods, getting a Das is now incredibly difficult,
But anything where you can not wait due to mobility even if you don't need a chair is directed to so :(
I know of a case where somebody has major incontinence issues and.used to.have a Gac they was told they could no longer get a Das and if they had problems to use diapers!!:(

we also always have a letter from his surgeon and his doctor - as much for the airlines as for disney..
he has to carry an oversized medical bag onboard the plane with him - which is permitted by TSA - but you need proof.

So we have the letters from his doctors.
But disney has never asked for them.

we never had a problem obtaining a GAC, i sure hope we don't have trouble with the DAS.
Even the GAC wasn't perfect for him, but it certainly helped a great deal.
The DAS will be more difficult, but it will help i'm sure.

i do understand why it happened. There was a tremendous amount of abuse of the system. So they had to do something.
