DAS and the experiments to eliminate stand-by

During the test there is absolutely no standby and no DAS.
The test is from October 6th to October 9th.
People there during the test have posted that many of the cars on the ride are running empty (many pictures of empty cars have been posted to twitter).
I would be beyond upset if this were to happen during our visit.

I agree, doing this with no notice is not acceptable, and I believe that having no standby line at all is wrong. But it does make sense that if there is no standby line, there would be no use of DAS permitted.

. . . let me tell you that i would be ticked off royally if disney suddenly changed the rules when i got there...
i mean, the people who are there during this testing had no advance warning that this would take place...how can they do that???? . . .

1) Why should DAS folks get any more upset than non-DAS who want to wait?
2) EVERYTHING at WDW is "subject to change".
3) WDW does what they think is best for WDW.
4) The option, of course, is to do Universal.

NOTE: It would appear the "tests" have proven well, and there will be major
changes in M&G standby wait lines. The lines are getting far too long, and the
tempers of guests in line far too short. As that sage, Pogo, says, "We have
met the enemy, and it is us."

The test is not to a test to eliminate Fastpass- it is a test to see how many guests the Fastpass line is able to accommodate.

They are reportedly building another track in the building next to the current Toy Story Mania. From what I have read, this test is to help them decide whether the new track will be Fastpass only or will include Fastpass and standby.

When I have done similar tests, they made more Fastpasses available than normal available. This meant people were able to ride who otherwise would have been waiting in the standby line.
It's a limited test, not a permanent change. The end result (building another track) should mean more Fastpasses available and shorter waits for everyone.

Would you explain this further please ? Thanks

does anyone know if, for those with no expiration tickets, that if you show up one day and they are doing one of these tests, can you ask to leave the park and then have the day credited back on the ticket. i would rather go shopping honestly and save the ticket.

I very much doubt they will do that. They don't credit tickets when entertainment is down, etc, so I don't see why they'd do it for this.

I'd check the forums prior to going if it will keep you from the parks.

We have FP+ for Thursday, it will be interesting to see this in person, I will report back. Our FP+ are for late, 5:50-6:50 pm.

We went to DHS yesterday afternoon. I had heard about the test the night before by a friend sending me a link to a website that mentioned the test. Yesterday morning I called a contact at DHS and left a message asking if DAS would be accepted or not. Didn't receive a call back, but did receive another link from my friend that said no it wasn't.

So my plan was to avoid that area, so there wouldn't be any temptation for ds to ride it.

We met cm friends there, so we didn't arrange FP+ in advance because we wanted to be able to spend our time with them. I could have made a FP+ in the morning. That was another message I got from someone. But didn't, because then we wouldn't have been able to ride with our friends.

When we arrived around 3:30 the FP+ kiosk at Muppets and at the Sorc hat were both closed. So the one beside TSM was the opened one. (Maybe the one at RnR was too, but we weren't headed that way.)

I hated having to be so close to the attraction we couldn't ride. Thankfully ds was focused on something he left in the car and dh going back to the parking lot to get it. So TSM never crossed his mind.

The street was lined with cm in red. I don't think a single one greeted or smiled at us. Had I not known what was going on, I don't know if I would have ever found out. Nobody said a word to us. Not even the cm who made our FP+ selections. And the ones in red shirts stood along the road expressionless and still. It was very different than the usual smile and hello.

At 3:30pm, TSM, Mermaid, and the Frozen Sing-along were all gone for the day. We chose GMR, Muppets, and Indy. But never made it to GMR or Indy. Instead, it was 2 shows of the sing-along and the muppets once (but we didn't need our FP, it was walk-in). We did use the DAS for the sing-along. That was nice because we were able to arrived at the end of the window they gave us, so very little waiting to get in.

We were at Studios today, and I just want to say hats off to the smiling gracious cast members and leaders down at TSM. You all handled the situation you did nothing to create, like professionals. Loved it when a few of you gathered at the corner of the building and sung a few bars of Let it Go!!

That's good!

Maybe the day before they were all shocked and stunned, caught off guard.

How does this work for CMs and those they sign in who still can't book FP+ in advance, even if they are staying onsite?

I had heard early in the morning that fp were available for day guests up until about 1pm before they ran out.

1) Usually pretty terrible.
2) You take whatever others do not want.
3) And, some are REALLY late in the park day - if available at all.
4) Pretty bad situation.

We are AP and the friends we met are cm. It was important for us to be together. So we got to choose from whatever was left at 3:30.

We were at AK today and the main difference between using FP+ and the DAS that impacted me was that FP+ does not have an open return time. I navigate very slowly in the parks, especially AK where there is uneven pavement and textures to deal with. I need to head for the attraction and hang out there with FP.

I went to a cast member with an iPad and they managed to get me a Safari FP that was immediate. There was no SB wait at the time however. This is just another consideration though if things go to FP+ only. The extra time you had to return with DAS is not there.

I will be arriving in 6 days. My family will follow 10 days later. I will be on line checking the changes and altering their FP+ as needed. I all ready spent a lot of time making FP to work around ADRs and park days. My thought on increasing the numbers of FPs is more FPs fewer people in line more people out spending.
