We just got back last night & both days we went to MK (Wed. last week & Sun.) the ugly crane was up over the castle. You could see a lot of heavy equipment at the castle as well, on the side of Fantasyland. Just wanted to warn any of you going this week or next that have your hearts set on a family pic for your holiday cards....you may want to have a Plan B!

That is so disappointing. :sad2: Last time we went in 1997 the castle looked like the cake. It was DH's first trip and he was bummed that it looked so, well so not like what he thought it would. Now this time we get the crane. Ugh.

I have my Christmas cards all made, addressed, stamped and I am bringing them next week along with my little photo printer. I planned to get a nice photo, print them in the room and mail them out. Guess we'll have to aim for a photo with Mickey instead of in front of the castle.

Thanks for the heads up!

As I said in another thread, it was either use that crane or completely cover the castle with scaffoldings so you can't see it at all, like they did to Disneyland's castle before the 50th anniversary celebration began.

We had our family picture taken and the crane was up in the morning. But come the afternoon, the crane was down. Of course the better picture we had taken was in the morning with the crane! :( We're using it as one of the pics in our x-mas card, still a little disappointing, though.

We had a picture taken, with the crane up, in front of the castle when we went over Thanksgiving; if you get the photo from the front side the crane is hidden from sight. As a matter of fact, my DD13 and I were heading over on the monorail one morning and saw the crane. I admit it bummed us a little when we saw it but we planned to have a good photo anyway. To our surprise, when we got off the monrail and walked up Main Street the crane had completly disappeared from sight. My first reaction was "man, they broke that crane down very quickly", but as we circled around the park we noticed it was stratigically placed so it did not show from the front side of the castle. If you venture to either side it is very visible, but if you stay front and center as we did you should get a great photo for your Christmas Cards too!!

I wish you the best!!

:thumbsup2

Yeah, it's coming down pretty early each day.

The thing I am disappionted in though is how so much of the right side (facing the castle) is blocked off due to it's being there. The rear of the castle is REALLY blocked off and really doesn't give any nice photos right now.

I took the Keys to the Kingdom Tour on 12/9. We were told the crane is because they are working on finishing the Penthouse for the Year of a Million Dreams promotion for the stays starting in January. At least though it comes down early each day for the fireworks
