Dark Rides/attractions and Phone lights

I have a confession…I definitely video tape my daughter’s reactions on rides. I do just hold the camera to my chest (or below eye level) though, and shoot blind.

I do make sure I don’t turn my abnormally long arms into selfie sticks, though. Screen is dimmed on indoor rides (and held close to further muffle - but if it’s that dark, you’re not really getting much of anything, anyway).

Posted first-person ride videos (YouTube) and the ones we took got us through the pandemic closure.

I don’t mind devices as long as it is tastefully done, but a good # of people don’t know how to do that/don’t care.
I do the same, but I usually hold the phone on the lap bar and not usually on a dark ride (because it’s not like she will show up on the video anyways with those.)

Sadly even less likely due to Disney reminding you a million times to download the Disneyland app and use mobile access for literally everything.
A woman on It's a Small World yesterday was in the first row using mobile order and kept showing her phone to her husband and one of her kids in the 2nd row (I was in the third row). I just thought, why not do that before the ride? There was no wait to get on. She must have missed half the ride and experiencing it with her kid next to her. /shrug.

Sometimes you just want to sit in an air conditioned environment and It's a Small World happens to be close. On some hot days when I'm with friends, we go to It's a Small World just to sit and chat about whatever, not really paying attention to the ride because we can't be bothered to find a table at a restaurant to do this. If you've already been on a ride before, you don't have to "experience" it the same way every time in the future. One time one of my friends got a call from work while we were in line for Space Mountain. He took the call and rode the ride with his earphones in although the call dropped at some point during the ride.

Americans often think that people taking pictures and videos aren't "experiencing" a ride or show properly but I see it as just a different type of experiencing. In Hong Kong Disneyland, I've also heard quite a few times people saying rides are a waste of time or judging others for NOT taking photos of something.

It's not OK for someone to be overly distracting but there's also no need to feel like someone else is wasting an experience because you never know how they value the experience.

I've... paid for my homeowner's insurance on my phone while riding IASW.

But this was also our third round through that day and so no magic missed with my kid looking at things.

This has got to be up there for 'most random thing done while on iasw' award! And more generally, I always love reading your commends on threads so please keep 'em coming!

I dont understand why anyone needs to video any ride. You realize you can already experience full P.O.V of any ride on youtube? Why do you watch the ride through your phone when you can enjoy it by watching it directly. Plus, you can experience it with the people you are with. Those are the real memories.

lol I’m glad someone enjoys my random thoughts

But really, I realized somewhere in the Mexico room of IASW that I forgot to pay my homeowner’s insurance bill and it was due by midnight eastern time, signal wasn’t the best so it didn’t get to submitting until we were out of the ride…with 15 minutes to spare!
