Dark Ride

What is a dark ride? I just saw this on two different threads. One was referring to dark rides in Fantasyland and one was referring to Indiana Jones as a dark ride at DL.

A dark ride is any ride that runs on a track in a building. Usually the track area is dark, the ride relatively slow (as opposed to space Mountain or Rock'N"Roller Coaster) and you ride past illuminated scenes. The term came from the old amusement park "haunted house" rides, but now the term refers to any indoor track ride. Dinosaur, Spaceship Earth, Show White, and Peter Pan are other examples of "dark rides".
