Dare I try Enterprise?

I was elated to get a great for a two day rental from Enterprise ($30). We are staying at OKW so not very far for them to come pick me up. However, I have since read some not so great things about them. So I did some more searching and was able to book at National at the Dolphin for $58. Is it better to just pay the extra $28? We are Emerald Isle members. Or plan is to arrive on Friday, October 6 go to a park Saturday and them get the car in the afternoon. Car rental rates are horrific during our vacation time!

My DH and I booked at Enterprise for our trip down there next month. They had the cheapest prices compared to other car rental agencies. We've used them in the past here in NY when our cars had to go in for repair, and they were great. We have never had a problem.

This will be our first time using Enterprise outside of NY, so I don't know how this particular agency is.

Why not? What kind of 'not great things'? Have you checked, um, tripadvisor.com to see if there are any reviews there? Or the BBB? I've never used Enterprise, but really - they're a national company, remember that very few people report GOOD experiences because we all take good service for granted, and um, what was the other thing? Oh, right - Enterprise for HALF the price of National? $28 is a t-shirt (or a sale sweatshirt), or a hat, or some pins, or a couple of counter service meals, or a table service entree, or two+ refillable mugs...

I think Enterprise is getting a bad reputation because of what they did to me. I rented with them, got the great rate, and when I brought the car back, they showed me a scratch that I thought was there from the beginning most likely, and they made a HUGE deal about it. You could tell they were going to try to charge me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. They had me fill out accidents reports, etc.

Luckily, at the very last minute, I had taken their VERY EXPENSIVE all-inclusive insurance. So I just signed the papers and walked away.

I'd never use them again without getting their insurance. I think it's a racket, and the insurance drives the price up even with all the rest of the companies.

BEWARE!

When my car was in for repair the dealership offered a Enterprise rental at their cost. When I got the car the agent and I had to walk the car both coming and going. I had to point out defects on checkout. When I returned the car there wasn't any damage but the production they went thru was ridicules. I told them if there is a next time I will go one better. My wife will be there with a digicam and will record both he and I examining the car. I don't get that hassle from Hertz !!!!

NOt sure if all Enterprise offices do it or if Enterprise has cleaned up its act regarding minor damage, but I recently (Aug. 2006) rented from Enterprise and had no hassles with this subject (or was I lucky?).

The agent had this plastic template with a circle (if I remember correctly about the size of a quarter) and a line on it. If a minor ding or scratch was smaller than the circle or line respectively and not deep enough to be obvious, there would be no claim or charge for repair.

I've used Enterprise in past (not at MCO) only when preferred vendor Hertz was sold out; not a horrific experience but much more painful than Hertz - basically due to infrequency of shuttle, offsite location, and lack of an express rental program. It's painful to watch agents labour over every line of a rental agreement.

But no issues with quality of vehicle or damage claims.
