Many factors play into getting the perfect photograph. The composition is key, and the lighting must be correct. A scenic view helps too. But safety must also be a priority. One passenger aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise forgot to take safety into account when she launched her swimsuit photoshoot. Her dangerous antics earned her a lifetime ban from the cruise line.
Viewers call the passenger an “absolute idiot” for climbing over the safety railing. She seemed to view the spot right off the balcony as perfect for taking a swimsuit selfie over the ocean waves. Maybe she got her photo, but she lost future privileges aboard the vessel. As soon as the Royal Caribbean cruise ship docked in Jamaica, she was kicked off and banned for life.

Glamorous pictures are highly desirable, but when one individual risks their life, it sets a harmful precedent. When she acted, her stunt was visible to other passengers. For this very reason, a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean condemned her actions. “A guest was observed recklessly and dangerously posing for a photo by standing on her stateroom balcony railing with the help of her companion,” Jonathon Fishman, manager of corporate reputation, told Fox News.
Royal Caribbean’s guest conduct policy prohibits “sitting, standing, laying or climbing on, over or across any exterior or interior railings or other protective barriers, or tampering with ship’s equipment, facilities or systems.” This helps protect the safety of the vessel and passengers onboard. Anyone who breaks these laws faces intervention and removal from the ship at the next port. Both the passenger and her companion who helped her received a ban.
Passenger Peter Blosic took the incriminating photo of the daredevil photographer. Though likely not the angle she wanted, Blosic’s picture was very important in addressing the transgression. Indignant, Blosic exclaimed, “What an absolute IDIOT. You cannot fall off of a ship unless you are acting like a moron.”
Cruise ships face reckless passengers and deal with them similarly. Unsafe acts often lead to injuries. Earlier this month, a Carnival Cruise Line passenger was seriously hurt after falling over a railing. The man in question landed on the deck 16 feet below. Another Royal Caribbean cruise guest was banned for life after leaping from the 11th deck. Actions come with consequences, both for the perpetrator and those around them.
