Dane Cook--Funny or Not?

What Do You Think of Dane Cook?

  • Dane Cook is the funniest comedian out there today!

  • Eh. He's all right. Nothing special, but not horrible, either.

  • He's nothing less than a total blight on comedy!

I'll be the first to say that I'm completely mystified as to this guy being referred to by anyone as a "comedian". Nice looking? Yes. Decent enough guy to have as a friend? Probably. Super-savvy self-marketer? Without a doubt. But laugh-inducing? Well, put it this way: I have a friend whose taste in humor (and all things entertainment) is pretty much beyond reproach, and he loves Dane Cook. So, in deference to my good friend, I have attempted, several times, to watch this guy's act with a completely open mind, and have sat through each routine without so much as cracking a smile--completely straightfaced. I mean, to me, Dane Cook makes Larry The Cable Guy look like Richard Pryor, and that takes some doing, let me tell you!

So, what say all of you?

I chose "never seen the guy," but I just went to youtube and watched two of his things. Yeah, not funny at all. Quite annoying.

Oh come on, have you not seen his Price Is Right number? That is hilarious!

Ok, to be fair, I went and watched it. Not at all funny to me. The only part I thought was remotely funny is when he was talking about the old woman going up to spin the wheel. Still, it didn't make me laugh. I think if I didn't find him so annoying, I might think he was funnier. :confused3

I think he's hilarious. I'm a college student though so i wonder if its an age thing.

I don't think he's the funniest comedian ever, but I do think he is pretty funny. The first time he was on SNL, DH and I had tears rolling down our cheeks from laughing.

Mind if I ask who he is?
I have never even heard his name mentioned before, let alone not seen him.
Where does he "perform", where did he get his start?

My real vote is in between the 1st two, not quite the funniest in the world, but much better than eh yea.

I think he's really funny

Without reading replies yet...I voted other.

I love comedy...most of everyone except a couple.

Dane Cook is alot like coffee and beer. Takes awhile to like him.

I finally feel in love with him when I watched him the "Comedy Tour 2006" with Whoopie, Crystal, and Williams, which is raising money for Katrina.:thumbsup2

I thought his performance was RIGHT ON...:lmao:

I just listened to this on my DS's friend's Ipod. I asked him if his mom knows this is on there. Some colorful language. Anway, it was a bit about the Kool-Aid man and had some parts that were quite funny especially since I remember the original commercials. There was another short bit about Coke versus Pepsi. I believe he is from Maine so he likes his Pepsi. I smiled at that one because I had to agree as we like Pepsi too but it was not really laugh out loud material. But . . . it's hard to form an opinion because those two short bits (less than 2 min) are the only stuff I have heard from him.

He's pretty funny. I first saw him on SNL and his opening monologue was good. I just checked out some youtube videos and the Kool Aid one was hysterical! :rotfl: The Price is Right was pretty good too.

Had to vote other. Strange poll, lol. You go from "funniest guy out there" to not horrible?? Come on. He's pretty funny but far from the funniest.

My DH and I both are mystified by his success. All of the sudden he's got an HBO special, is starring in movies and hosting SNL. :confused3 It seems that he's slickly marketed a few marginally funny bits into a career, but I can't see it lasting. He does seem like he'd be a fun guy to hang out with though.

He's not exactly all of the sudden, my kids and their friends have loved him for years.

Saw that. Again, didn't find it funny in the least. Loud, yes. Funny? Not so much.

Now, if you want really funny, check out Patton Oswalt or David Cross. Jim Gaffigan and Lewis Black are pretty okay, too.

ETA: Of course, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Ricky Gervais=pretty damn funny in my book, too. But, don't get me wrong. I tried to like Dane Cook. I really did. It's just that I tend to categorize him as the Yakov Smirnoff of the current youth generation.
