Dancing With the Stars - Spring 2017

Unlearned dances are next week. Any guesses to who is doing what?

Simone & Sasha: Rumba?
Bonner & Sharna: Jive?
Rashad & Emma: Argentine Tango?
Normani & Val: Contemporary?
David & Lindsay: Contemporary?

I really enjoy Rashad, but really only when they dance separately. Together they just seem like something isn't right.

I'd like to keep David around longer, as long as he doesn't win.

I split my votes between Rashad and Normani

So, the show will only be 9 weeks long? They usually go into week 8 with 6 or more dancers and they only have 5.

Is there another double elimination next week?
No, don't think so. Last year week 10 was the semi-finals with 5 dancers and then week 11 was the finals with 2 shows. They are at 5 dancers now, so does that mean there are only 2 weeks left?

To answer my own question: yes, there are only 2 weeks left. The Bachelorette starts up on May 22.

Pretty sure the Produces feel exactly the same. David has been in the mid show slot or later yielding MANY Cub viewers that most likely didn't follow the show before. If they have him dance first, channel gets turned.

So I read the Live With Kelly thread to see who the new host was as it seemed like naming one took longer than April the Giraffe giving birth. I was super surprised to see CarrieAnne Inaba as one who hoped to get the gig. I don't watch Live so I had no idea she threw her dance shoes into the ring. I wouldn't have minded if she left DWTS, personally. She is a trip on the show but it makes me wonder if they would have replaced her with a permanent or just filled in with guest judges? I wouldn't have minded seeing Cheryl Burke get Carrie Anne's spot

I was surprised at some of the people who were supposedly interested in the gig. I don't watch Live! either and I can't stand Kelly R, but I *might* have started watching if they picked someone interesting. Ryan Seacreast ain't it.

Imzadi nailed it when she said they had to bring in a name big enough to compete with Megan Kelly

I'm in the same boat with most of the trio dances. They just feel forced in nearly all cases.

Didn't they put two contestants with their pros in a single routine a few years back? I'd enjoy that more.

I really don't see how Normani is going to lose this. There are other dancers each week that do really well, but yes she is in a singing group, but that singing group choreographs dances in all of there songs. I don't think it is quite fair to the others that she is in this competition. It is similar to when they had Zendaya who yes is an actress, but her show was based on dancing and she definitely had extensive dance experience. It would be like if they had Britney Spears on the show because technically she is a singer, but everyone knows she has extensive dancing experience.

But none of them have ballroom dancing experience - that's a totally different kind of dancing. (And Zendaya didn't win anyway.)

I understand that, but certain dancing skills such as having good tempo, rhythm, and just awareness of ones body in space goes along in any type of dance. Someone like Alfonso Ribeiro who I doubt took a Ballroom Dance class, but definitely took other Dance Classes had all of this on his side entering the contest. Someone like Rashad certainly has awareness of his body for being a football player, but good tempo and rhythm may come harder to him(i don't know). It just seems like some contestants have a better advantage coming into the contest than others. The one that really impressed me in the previous years was the Auto Driver who was fantastic and said he never had dancing experience other than dancing at parties.

They have two dances this week...judges choose the trio partners from what I understand. Simone got short end of the stick.

I have my own opinion of what I think about some of this but i'll be good because it might a case of pandora box's opening

This show really is more about performing well than actually dancing well. Heather by far had the best technique of anyone on the show this season... as she should... she had training in ballroom dance. But she was given lackluster choreography for the most part which didn't really allow her to "wow" an audience. Her Cha-Cha routine comes right to my mind. The technique in that routine was great - and I might have given it a 10. But performance wise for TV it just didn't impress the judges.

Riker actually had training in ballroom dance (specifically in international latin) from a young age but it really wasn't public knowledge. He did make it to the final. I know I'll step on toes with this one, but I think he is a better dancer than Allison.

It seems like those who were trained to perform in show business do well on the show. Alfonso was trained in Broadway Jazz, which has a lot of movements and steps very similar to Jive (which was his first routine).

Har har.

My guess is they didn't pick a man for her because she's so short.

Meaning ...? I guess I'm not understanding the connection between DWTS and the 7 deadly sins!

Who is in which trio? Do you know or is it a joke? I've been poking around and haven't found any spoilers yet.

Never mind, found it.

Trios are:
Simone with Sasha and Brittany
Bonner with Sharna and Britt
Normani with Val and Alan
David with Lindsey and Haley
Rashad with Emma and Witney

My issue with Val is this and it applies to Maks, both come off as they should be handed things and pitch fits when they don't. A prime example was a few seasons ago when everything was up in the air. His attitude rubs me the wrong way and I know some like him but I just don't. To me it's coming off obvious they want him to win this season and I don't like that. It's like the season with Ginger.
