Dance shoes & leotards

My girls have dance & I need to buy tap shoes & ballet shoes. Anyone know of where I can get these cheap? Thanks

I bought DD's at Payless (tap and ballet). I have also seen tap shoes at Wal-mart.

I bought her leotards at Kohl's and tights at Wal-mart.

Hmm, I see you are in NJ, not sure how far from Red Bank Eatontown area but Kas Dance has always had what I needed. Also look through dancespirit.com for retailers.

discount dance supply is where I get my 3 yr olds stuff. it alot cheaper than the dance stores and better quality than walmart or payless ( and her dance studio wont let them use those... this week 3 moms where told their daughter needed new shoes with the leather soles because they had the cloth bottom ones and were slipping all over the place....they were not happy having to go out and buy new ones but it was told EXACTLY what kind on the registration form..

Ask the dance instructor exactly what style/brand you need before you buy anything. Ours seems to change things every year. Ours even specifys brand because the finish and colors vary.

Last year DD had to have black boot jazz shoes this year it is beige. I bought new black ones right before the recital too.

Any of the online discount dance companies would be a good place to start, depending on your kids ages. If they're still rather little, Kohls, KMart, and Payless have options.

I'm pretty sure that I have white tap shoes in a size 10. However, I'm not sure my dd will want to part with them even though they don't fit her anymore.

Just a warning that dance shoe sizes can vary greatly from brand to brand and can be very different than regular shoe size.

Another caution about Payless. They are not well made - thick, uneven seams which chafe the foot, poor support, slippery soles, sometimes they are not even sewn straight. My DD's studio director actually sent a note home asking parents to avoid them if possible. I've gotten some good buys on tap shoes on ebay.
BTW, anyone got a pair of hiphop sneakers (size 6.5) they want to unload?

Wow, I had no idea. That's actually where the dance teacher recommended we go.
I've gotten DD ballet shoes there for 3 years and tap shoes for 2 and we've never had any issues. ::knock wood::

It sounds great in theory to get great price on dance shoes, athletic shoes and skates. However, it is extremely important to have these fitted by a professional. The abuse that feet and legs take from dance, sports, skating, hockey are only made worse by ill fitting shoes. This in the future can lead to severe back and joint problems. For the exrta $10 or $15, go to a regular store and have these shoes fitted. If your child is then fitted, and if their sizes hasn't changed then go by them online. But anytime there is growth, have them professionally fitted.
