Dance costume costs

Yes-way too much! It was a solo/adult costume so I can't blame anyone but myself! Tu tus ran around $300 without any overlay then. I can't imagine what they cost now!
That is crazy. Tulle is not expensive. I can make a platter tu tu for about $20 in material for an adult, and that is playing retail for materials.

I think that we're pretty lucky....we paid $263 for my DD13 dance costumes....she's in 6 dances with 2 solos, 3 group, a production all in competition. Her dance studio only does a full recital every other year, so that the "off" year they can really concentrate on technique...but that year the competition classes do go to comps and some of the classes are invited to do a fundraiser show for MS. The Owner/Director of the studio has MS.

Oh, the studio only does 2 regional competitions a year and no nationals. One of the regional competition only the "specialty" dances go - solo, duo, trio & production. SO that helps alot with the competition fees.

After speaking to some of the Moms whose DDs are at another local studio that has a "competition team" I'm so happy that DD13 is not there...they do 5 competitions and a recital every year - their costumes cost $100 per costume average

Oooh, I wish we had known you back in 2003! Her tutu was a hand-tacked, hooped pancake and I'm thinking it was around $300. She wore it for three years and then we gave it to the local company. We changed the bodice and overlay each year. DD was a teensy thing and I couldn't find anything to fit ready made.

Been there done that and I don't have the costumes now to prove it. My DD loved dance and the pix and memories r priceless!!

My DD dance competition and dances for a reasonable studio(others in our area are higher) and my costume bill is 475 and she only has Jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and opening(performance the competition dancers put on). plus I have accessory fees. Normally DD has a solo too but took a break this yr since they just did nationals last yr. OP was doing very very well for 7 costumes IMO. We do regionals every yr, a dance convention yearly, a recital(2-3 nts ) and Nationals every 3 yrs cause it is 12 hrs from us and we stay a week so that is an EXPENSIVE trip!

Was at competition last week and saw a shirt----front said "I don't know how to dance, I just FINANCE!!" LOL

My DH has one that says " Being a Dance Dad has nothing to do with Talent"--on back it says " but everything to do with CASH"!
