Just wondering if anyone knows where we can take a passport to get it checked to see if it is still exceptable?
Our son has to use his for personnel ID as he doesn't have a drivers license.but it is starting to lift in the middle and we are worried they won't except it when he goes on holiday.
TIA

The policy is that if there is any damage then the only offical advice you will be given is to get a replacement. This is because they don't want to be in a situation where it could be said that you were told it's ok, as it is not down to them, if security either home or abroad say the passport is too damaged the passport office cannot overrule them.

My advice is to get it replaced. I would worry too much if it was mine and after seeing some of those border control programmes on TV, they nearly always tend to investigate more if there some sort of damage to the passport.

But obviously the decision is yours.

Our daughter's passport was in the same condition for the same reason when she travelled to the US last year and she decided to risk it. She didn't have any problems, but it was a worry leading up to the trip.

Thanks everyone.
We've told him so it's up to him now.

My hubbys passport is awful (you could probably just shake the thing to much and it would fall appart) It has been like this for about the last 3 years and we have travelled to the States over 9 times with no problems.

I want to go to spain this summer and am looking at the low cost airlines - I am worried (after seeing all the programs on tv) that this will be the time when they turn around and say he cant travel and leave me looking after my DD3 in a country I have never visited!

They are just so expensive to renew (his would have to be done on the 1 day service for work) I can think of a gazillion things I would rather spend the money on!!:lmao:

I have an old UK driver's licence without a photo, but leave my passport in the room safe when at Disney.

Because I am in a wheelchair & can't reach the finger scanners at Disney, I always carry a bus pass with my photo on it. It has never been refused as photo ID.

My son uses his passport at home because he has no other ID. I think this is the problem that Tony's son has too.

(My DS doesn't drive and has had his "Validate" card rejected at most places he's tried to use it.)

Thanks Andrew and Libby
Libby you are correct; It's in England he has to carry it for ID.
