Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck finding specifically coconut ice cream treats? Not at Disney, as I'm pretty sure they don't carry them, but in the area or through a grocery delivery? We've recently found my twins can have some of the So Delicious coconut ice cream products and wondering if anyone else has seen them around the Orlando area? Some almond milk ice creams may also be safe.

I'm going to start making some calls, but figured I'd check and see if anyone may have seen them or ordered them before.

TIA!

Actually, there are a few restaurants at wdw that carry So Delicious coconut ice cream. I've had it at Trail's End a couple of times. You can email special.diets@disneyworld.com and ask for a list of restaurants that should have it in stock.

As for out in regular old Florida, I have found So Delicious coconut at Whole Foods, Publix, Winn Dixie, and Super Targets.

Oh wow, thanks! I will reach out to them now. Our experiences so far have been that the restaurants we've been to have only had rice dream for dairy/soy allergies but my kids have grain allergies so that's out as well.

I figure worst case I'll borrow my MIL car while she is with us and head to the grocery store, but with only a mini fridge not sure how well it will keep in that tiny freezer compartment.

most likely will not keep well as the small freezer does not close well enough so I would plan on only enough for right then as I do not think resort would keep for you.

We have gone to Whole Foods in Orlando, but had bad luck keeping the ice cream cold in the freezer. They usually have several so delicious coconut/almond ice cream or ice cream bar options. The first time the bars actually stayed reasonably frozen. The other time, they melted big time. We have subsequently just bought for bars and eaten them as a family after getting a bite at Whole Foods hot bar. DD14 has allergies to dairy/egg/some tree nuts/peanuts and DW and I are now very dairy intolerant, so a Whole Foods trip is something that helps the whole family out. I don't know how it would work for your kids, but we usually just count on Babycakes (now Erin McKenna's) for our allergy treats. Let us know how it goes because the information spread here helps all of us navigate our allergies in WDW. Have a great trip.

Thanks. I know when I stayed at POFQ a few years ago nothing stayed frozen in that little compartment. But then I've read other people's reports that they had no problem keeping something frozen in those tiny freezers. I haven't tried since so I wasn't sure if I just had a bum one or what.

Babycakes is a no go for my guys. My oldest is severely allergic to rice and tapioca and my twins are almost entirely grain free with corn as the only exception.

I found these awesome organic vegan macaroons recently that are made with just coconut and almond flour. They have to stay refrigerated because they aren't baked they are dehydrated but I'm going to bring a bunch of those with us at least. And I'm waiting to hear back from Special Diets to see if they have any coconut ice cream products. Would be awesome if I can find them onsite.

CP is going to make them a frozen fruit smoothie at least. Just frozen banana and mangoes with ice and sugar. Hopefully they will enjoy that.

Well no luck with Special Diets. Any inquiry I've made about QS has pretty much been met with a "check with the chef when you arrive at the restaurant" response. And that's the response I just got when inquiring about coconut ice cream. Kind of a bummer because I'm sure not going to walk around to every location trying to find the few that might have it.

Maybe I'll see if our resort can get some.

@Dis703 QS doesn't normally have ice cream anyway. TS is where you're going to find it. Special diets typically sens back an auto-reply email and you'll probably get a better answer the second time around. Trails End for sure has it.

On another note, I'm also ridiculously allergic to tapioca. It's a pain in the butt allergen. I'll be happy to help if you have any questions about that allergen at Disney.

You can get a list of "commonly used allergy friendly alternatives" from special diets if you ask. As mentioned they have started carrying SoDe at a few places throughout the parks.

Perhaps ask specifically for a "dairy allergy" listing??

I was going to post a link to the site I had where Disney has been keeping the allergy free listings, but the links are not working right now.
If anybody knows any locations with coconut or almond ice creams, I would also LOVE to know where they are. Rice dream is sort of gross and is the only dessert DS ever gets anymore.

Okay well looks like we have one place willing to try and get it for us, yay! Talked to a chef from the Grand Floridian yesterday and he sounded confident he could get some in time for our dinner at 1900 Park Fare. So excited!

I'm sure I have an old allergy listing but those things change sometimes. I'll take a look and see if it mentions So Delicious. Of course our trip is only a week out now and ADRs are set. I spoke to most of the chefs before even knowing So Delicious products were an option but a couple of them were very nice about telling me to call if I had any more questions so maybe I'll reach out and see if someone else can try and get it as well.

Mistysue if I find any others I will let you know.

I am grain free along with being allergic to gluten, soy and dairy. I have had SO Delicious coconut ice cream at both SciFi Diner and Beown Derby. They also have an amazing coconut sorbet and raspberry sorbet that is made fresh on site at Sanaa and Boma That should be safe based on what you've listed. Those are two of my favorite places to eat with my allergies (over 40 foods I have to avoid). When you fill out your special diets form, you can always request that chefs contact you to discuss dessert options. There is no guarantee you will hear from chefs but occasionally I do and that has been very helpful.

Oh so sorry- I wrote my reply before it loaded the last several replies. Looks like you got it taken care of! Have fun!

Thanks that's good to know. Maybe if they definitely have it in HS I'll see if 50s Prime Time can get some. We spoke with almost all the chefs (still waiting on BoG after 2 requests) but the chef at 50s was honestly the least helpful. They are going to make something safe but his attitude on the phone was just like he wanted nothing to do with having to deal with this and kept recommending things that they couldn't have like rice instead of potatoes because the way they make their potatoes isn't safe. Rice of course is a grain though so it's no good for us. The rest of the chefs were very eager to help which is always very nice.

On my last two trips, I didn't hear from the chefs at BOG until I was actually on my trip. They were great for my entrees but there were no desserts safe for me. I either took Hail Merry brand treats with me or just did without which stinks when on the dining plan. :( I sometimes bake treats (like cookies or brownies) and freeze them so they stay fresh while traveling and then take them into the parks with me for when I eat. I normally wouldn't take a homemade dessert into a restaurant but when my whole family can have dessert, it's nice to join them! I've heard similar experiences about the chefs at 50's. I hope you get great service everywhere!

Thanks.

Last trip they called pretty early so I was surprised I didn't hear from them yet. Mind you my ADR is at the very end of my trip so there is still time. I just like to have it all worked out before I leave and figure on how much we need to bring of our own foods from home to supplement.

We just discovered Hail Merry macaroons for my boys! It's the first cookie they've ever had and we will be traveling with several bags of them this trip. It's really quite amazing to have them finally be able to have a treat with the rest of the family.

Our 11 year old had her GI system devastated by a virus and now is unable to tolerate dairy, soy, chocolate, and gluten. The gluten is touch and go, the more processed it is the more she can't tolerate it but bread like Ezkiel she doesn't have an issue with. I look forward to the link if someone can find it, we are staying at AKL which I've heard is one of the more allergy friendly places to stay.
She lives on SoDe and Outshine Fruit bars.
