DD8 has GERD and can have a some dairy, too much and her reflux is severe once more. A glass of whole milk she would have trouble eating for a week, even with meds. Some baked into a cake for example would be ok. It's a balancing act.

To that end, are soy/rice alternatives for milk shakes, and ice cream commonly available? Or is that one I'd need to pre arrange before visiting our TS? I'm not worried about cheese as she doesn't eat it anyway!

When our DD had the same issue, we listed lactose intollerance on our reservation and all TS to make it easier to get soy options. (They hadn't heard of rice milk back then, but they have some now.) We often told chef and server that DD could eat that with only a little milk in it, so not to worry. They looked askance but honored our requests. We were told that subs would be more available if we listed a problem. There were a few cases when soy milk was fetched from elsewhere to accomodate DD. We were told that because the issue was listed, they made this extra effort. The implication seems to be that the effort would not be made for a last minute request. Anyhow this was a few years ago so maybe someone with more current information will weigh in.

I've been researching for me and soy milk can often be had at Restaurantosaurus and Pizzafari in AK; ABC Commissary at HS; Sunshine Seasons at Ep; and Main Street Bakery, the Lunching Pad, Sunshine Tree Terrace, and Friar's Nook in MK. Tofutti and Rice Dream Frozen Dessert are often at Restaurantosaurus, Hollywood Scoops, Sunshine Seasons, Fountain View, and Plaze Ice Cream Parlor. This info is off of the Quick Service and Snacks lists I was emailed today from Special Diets.

Thank you for the info. I googled Rice Dream and showed DD (we have different brands in Au) and she is quite excited!

Is her problem only lactose or is it other components of milk as well? It it's only lactose then you should know that Dole Whips are lactose free. They do contain milk protein but no lactose.

Almost all Disney owned TS locations carry chocolate and vanilla Tofutti ice cream and a few carry Rice Dream ice cream. Those that don't have these will have some kind of sorbet, often raspberry based and will serve it with berries or some other fruit.

Make sure chefs and managers know that she can tollerate small amounts of milk. All of the regular breads as well as the regular chicken nuggets and tenders have small amounts of milk in them. If you state she has a milk allergy then they'll offer her allergy alternatives and frankly the allergy bread's not all that great. The chicken tenders are wonderful but expect a significant wait for them (a good 15 minutes longer than the regular ones). Also, with the ability to tollerate a bit of milk you don't need to worry about items being cooked in the same fryer as milk containing items and you don't need to worry about cross contamination of milkshakes being made on a milkshake machine that has been used to make regular milkshakes. The only place I know of that has dedicated allergy milkshake machines is Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre.

Every TS location we went to had Silk soy milk. Most had chocolate available but not all. Those that didn't have chocolate did have Very Vanilla and plain. CS locations outside of resorts are much more hit and miss. Ask but be prepared to order something else like maybe juice or lemonaid.
