Dairy Free in DLP?

I've searched for this specifically but all the replies seem to be around the US parks!

I've just recently gone dairy free as I'm feeding my baby DD and she appears to have a milk intolerance which is making her reflux and other 'issues' worse :( (also my DD1 who will be 3.5 yrs is slightly lactose intolerant so can't have cows milk to drink - usually has goat's milk). We are hoping to go to DLP at the end of September and I'm concerned about being dairy free over there - it's literally a minefield. I'm managing at home OK but it's bad when you eat out/go away anywhere!

Does anyone know if they cater at all for DF people please with soya products? I guess the biggest things I'm going to have an issue with is getting milk i.e. rice milk or soya milk or even goat's milk for my DD1??

Thanks for any help.

I had to be dairy free during our halloween trip in 2006 ( I had gallstones so had to avoid dairy products amongst other things). We were lucky as we stayed at DCR and were able to take Soya milk with us. I'm sure others have said that most places can cater for you if you give them notice about special diet requirements.

Thanks Pinkradleygirl - can I ask how you actually took soya milk? Did you go on eurostar? We are flying you see so not so easy to take milk - enough for 4 nights anyway...

Is goat's milk readily available?

As I can't have cheese, cream etc too it could be difficult to get meat in the restaurants (read somewhere that most meats are in sauces)...

We actually drove over (worse ferry crossing ever so I always remeber it:scared1: ). You could always got to the Supermarket at Val d'Europe - there is a thread somewhere on the boards about how to get there by train or bus somewhere on the boards. Hope everything goes ok for you!

You can always ask for your meat to come without the sauce if its not suitable - the staff are really accomadating if you explain the problem.

hi we did DLP last year in November with my daughter who is 5 she has a dairy and soya allergy so it was a huge problem. She also has reflux too. She is on a special formula milk this is in powder form so I made it up in the hotel room as I asked for a kettle and bought bottled water to make up half with boiling water and half with room temp water, I made it up in tupperware type cartons. It wasnt ideal as she prefers her milk ice cold but we got by for the few days we were there. I am not sure a big hotel would be willing to store some milk in their fridge.

The food I found was a huge problem, all she wanted was fruit, not cut up fruit just a whole apple or a whole banana, we had to beg in the hotel and they let us in the restaraunt to choose one from the fruit bowl! She did have toast at breakfast, they also had some pots of fruit puree type things which I got a few of each morning. She is not really a big eater, i just had the problem of if we wanted to a bugffet type restaraunt I would have had to pay for her knowing full well she wouldnt eat the food available but also knowing she really probably couldnt eat it.

She had pasta from bella notte I think but she vomited that back up so maybe the sauce had something in she wasnt supposed to have. She lived on chips through out the day, oh and bread buns. I think unless there are specific ingredients you need to look out for it can be a huge problem, but if you have a rough idea of what she can eat you will get by.

Also regarding the milk, why not buy the cardboard cartons of the milk she can have? The soya type ones? They are stored on normal shelves in the supermarket (not in the fridge) so should be ok on hols. failing that maybe for the older child why not switch back to a lacto free baby formula so you can make it up when she wants it?

Thanks tetley. It's actually me who needs to be dairy free as I'm breastfeeding my DD2 and we think she has a milk intolerance. You are right, my DD1 is lactose intolerant but thankfully can stomach dairy produce - just not cows milk. She can even have the odd ice cream so she isn't too much of an issue - tbh I just won't bother with milk for her while we are away (she has goats milk at home to drink morning and before bed - she's 3 years old so it won't hurt her to miss it for a few days).

So I guess I will also just have to live on chips/burgers without the bread/cheese etc. I do think my DD2 will probably be starting weaning by then (she'll be 5 mths and is a big girl so I think so) but I'm sure I'll be able to manage with a few fruit pots/baby rice (with some of my milk I guess) and the like - she certainly won't be eating a lot by then anyway - just pureed stuff which I can buy here and take over thank goodness.

We are flying so the though of taking cartons of milk scares me to death - would hate to find they've leaked all over. I suppose I could take a couple of cartons in hand luggage though - good idea! :thumbsup2

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

Will you be able to take them in hand luggage - we flew to Dublin a few weeks ago and still werent allowed liquids in hand luggage - had to be under 100ml

We may have to get a Doctor's note but I think this is do-able. If it's for 'medical' reasons they will normally allow it - I hope!

Don't suppose anyone knows if they sell soya or rice milk in the supermarkets over there? We will be staying off site and have a car (and fridge) so supermarket trip not an issue.

Thanks

I've replied to your PM:goodvibes but just had another tought reading this

I think you will be able to get goats milk at the Champion supermarket near the Marriot but if not and you have a car I'm definitely sure you would get it at the Auchan supermarket in Val D'Europe. It is huge and I'm sure it will tock soya produce and goats milk:thumbsup2

If no one else confirms I can definitely check this out as we'll be visiting Auchan in 9 days :)
