Dairy Allergies

Virtually all of them can accommodate dairy allergies. Really with any of the top 8 allergens (or most single food allergies) you can find plenty to eat at all of the restaurants. When you start to have lots of allergies then I'd say some are better than others.

I have 2 family members with food allergies and Disney does an amazing job! We can eat at most TS including buffets and dinner shows. They can’t just order off of the allergy menu but have to talk to chefs because of multiple allergies.

I have had a very good selection everytime my husband and I dine at Disney. I usually check Gluten and Dairy Free at Disney World (a blog run by another Disney-goer) beforehand to see what dishes are made with allergies in mind. Each restaurant has at least 1-2 dishes that are allergy safe for dairy, and requests can be made as well.

My son cannot have ice cream, cheese, etc. He has gotten a DF shake or root beer float at several restaurants. He is always so happy to get an ice cream treat with his meal because he can't do that out to eat at home.

DS is severely allergic to dairy (contact ANA), eggs, sesame, peanut, and tree nuts. He's eaten well everywhere we've gone. We largely do table service for more variety. We've even done beaches n cream and the Plaza where he had ice cream sundaes! (rice dream ice cream)

What places serve non-dairy ice cream? My son and I are lactose intolerant and I would love to add a few frozen treats to our visit! I've heard dole whips are...and I didn't realize rice ice cream was a thing! Anything places in the parks that serve this or something like it?

Pretty much all TS restaurants have the option and food courts at resorts should as well. Just about any place they service ice cream has some sort of nondairy option even if it's a fruit pop. But yes, for non sorbet non dairy ice cream rice dream is pretty readily available around the parks and resorts. I know they used to email you a list of dairy free options if you emailed them at special.diets@disneyworld.com

I think that email is correct but I typed it from memory so maybe double check the website.

Oh, thank you! I'll try that. I've been making note of places that we might want to try - like that kiosk near the Japan pavilion that sells shaved ice - but I didn't realize there were so many opportunities to get a non-dairy treat that actually had the look and feel of ice cream. :D I'm thrilled to hear that's an option!

My son has severe dairy allergy and he's been able to eat happily at most of the restaurants (he loves the shaved ice in Japan Pavilion)... even Beaches and Cream! They made him a sundae with all the trimmings. At the buffets, the chef will usually come out and review all the options that are safe for you. We had found some of the Epcot snack/QS locations a little more challenging. UK's fish and chips are dairy free (at least they were earlier this year)! We always mention the allergies when we make the reservation and also when we check in.

It didn't occur to me to put down anything when we made our dining reservations, so I wonder if it's too late now. My husband has a shellfish allergy as well but he hates it when I try to bring it up at restaurants, so I didn't mention that either. <sigh> Maybe I should have?

You can call dining and ask them to add to your reservations. I'm not sure if you can go back and add it online.

My son is almost 8 and is dairy allergic. And one of the biggest reasons we do Disney is because they handle allergies so well. His absolute favorites are being able to walk into the ice cream parlor on Main Street and get ice cream and to go into Erin McKenna's bakery and choose anything out of the case! He eats his share of Dole Whips too! I really like the buffets. The chef comes out each time and walks me through the line to let me know what's safe for him. And many times they will make him something else of what he wants isn't available. We're going back in December and will do a dessert party for the first time! Good luck!

Mentioning it on the reservation is less important if it's a common allergy or only one or two. It's when it gets to be a lot that a heads up is helpful. Even then I find that telling them when you check in for your ADR is the most important part. Sometimes they have it already marked and other times they haven't.

All right, that sounds good. We try to be more vigilant around places that serve seafood anyway, and for my son and I, I always carry those "dairy-ease" tablets, which are lifesavers! You never know when that salad you ordered will unexpectedly arrive with cheese sprinkled all over it or something.

Beaches and cream does great dairy free sundaes and the plaza ice cream parlor in MK does too. I got a rice dream one with peanuts butter sauce last Halloween  and an indecent amount of cherries....

Oh and I'm a big fan of yak and yeti's sorbet trio too!

There is a vegan bakery in Disney Springs, I think it is called Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC!
I know I say it every time someone posts about this bakery but . . . . .

The thought sounds really good. It is vegan and gluten free. And as someone gluten free, I was really excited to buy stuff there.

But, it really wasn't very good. At all.
