Daily Wine Tastings in WS - Need some info please....

Never done one before and it's on the list for this trip...have a few ?'s (I am not refering to the Food and Wine special events, But the daily tastings I've read about on this board.)

1 - Do I need to make resies? - If so by calling CRO?
2 - They are held in Italy and France, correct?
3 - How much do they cost?
4 - Are they held outside or inside?
5 - How long do they last?
6 - Are you able to bring your kids along?

I'm not sure about France and Italy, but there's a wine cellar in Germany that does this. It's inside the wine shop - there's a counter and a couple of stand-up bar style tables. You simply tell the person working that you want to do the tasting (there's a menu of options) and they bring the glasses and bottles to one of the stand-up tables. They explain each wine and answer questions. You're in the actual store so there is traffic and kids about. It took about 15 minutes to sample six wines.

My guess is Italy and France are the same way. There is a wine shop in Italy that we've been in and you can purchase glasses of wine there - never paid attention to the menu for wine tastings like Germany (smaller portions of several different wines) but it wouldn't surprise me if they have one. (We don't care for French wine, so have never been in the wine shop there.)

During the Food & Wine Festival there are several wine tastings held each day in the Festival Welcome Center and the Odyssey. You can pick up a pamphlet when you get to Epcot and decide which one or more you'd like to try. The pamphlet lists the days of the Festival and which wines are being featured that day. They are free - you just wait in line --- I've never seen children, however at the tastings.

The Food and Wine tastings require that you sit still and listen to a lecture about the wine and the winery. Kids wouldn't like it much.

I think I will do some of the World Showcase ones next weekend. I have done the one in Germany. It's not cheap (what is?) but it's enjoyable.

I did wine tasting in Italy the other week. This was nothing formal or fancy. I just walked up to the counter with the sign and told the CM that I wanted to do the wine tasting. There were four kinds of wine that I sampled. I also noticed the same type of sign in the wine shop in France. (This was on my solo day trip, so I was tasting by myself!)

This is the sign of the wines that I tasted! The last red wine was a dessert wine, a little bubbly and very tasty.

I had not forgotten to eat breakfast in the morning, and I needed to drive back home (and pick DD up from school), I might had indulged in the wine tasting in France too!

If it matters, there is another difference between the tastings in the parks and the ones held during food and wine festival. In the festival seminars, they're in a separate room devoted to the tasting, and they use actual glasses. In the park, all the glasses are plastic (glass containers are not permitted in the parks). That doesn't bother me, but during the festival I have heard people complain that they don't like drinking their wine out of plastic.

A little off topic, but if you're ever at DL, there is a nice tasting in Wine Country at California Adventure. You have a couple of options, but I always get the port sampler, 3 different ports complemented by 3 different cheeses, crostini, and fruit compote. It costs $10, and is a nice break in the day. As Ferris would say, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up".

We did this in Germany too. It was fun. You just tell the CM at the bar that you want to do the wine flight, and they put you at the tall table and bring everything out to you. They bring a map and explain about the grapes of the region etc.

Do they really have Riunite by the glass in Italy? My goodness, that is such a pedestrian wine.

Yes. I chuckled to myself when I saw the Riunite Lambrusco bottles, that was our wine of choice to drink when I was in college. My best friend's father owned a restaurant/banquet hall and we got it at cost - she'd bring cases of it back when she went home on break!!! (NY in 1977 drinking age was 18 so we were LEGAL!)
