We're going in Nov., and have usually brought a laptop along on other trips to other locales to peel photos off the memory cards for safekeeping. We really don't want to drag a laptop along(one is HUGE, the other is my employer's). Are there kiosks around for this, or do we just buy a few more memory cards?

any info appreciated. Thanks!

(it's been since 2005, I'm gettin' kinda antsy!)

I would look for a deal on memory cards and stock up. You can have your photos put on to a CD at the camera centers, but it's not cheap (I don't remember the prices)

Just as a warning, if you google it, there are instances when the xray machines at the airport erase memory cards. This is why we don't chance it. I lug our laptop down and back up our pics at night. Better to be inconvienced with the laptop then to lose all our pics for the *extremely rare* chance they can get erased.

An X-ray machine will not erase a digital memory card. If you put it near a strong magnet you might have a problem but not X-ray.

Sorry...I should have clarified that it's not the xray mechanism...it's the metal in the drive motors ON the machine. Also the metal detectors/wands can cause issues. Again, this is RARE but not worth the risk IMO
