My Dad is going with us to Disney in May and he has some issues with mobility. He is stubborn, but we have finally got him to agree to get an ECV for the parks. I have read that the parks have a limited supply of ECV's and I am concerned that I won't be able to get one for him. If we get there when the park opens, do you think we should have a problem getting one or do they rent out very quickly? He is only going to two parks, so renting one for the week from an outside company would making $$ sense.

you can rent one for less than a week... from some offsite companies..(I have always used Randy's)
But if you get to the parks when they open you should be fine...

I rented from Randy's and really liked the fact that they provide instruction when they drop it off.

I recommend getting one for the entire week as there can be so much walking even outside the parks. Just getting to dinner at one of the resorts can mean a lot of walking - especially for someone with mobility issues.

That would exactly describe my FIL.

It took years to get him to use one in the parks, but the first day he used one, he realized how much he had missed. He said it was the first park vacation day in 15 years that hadn't ended up in severe knee pain.

He would use a park one, but would not rent one from off-site (we even rented one from Randy's for him last March, but he would not use it).
Randy's was very nice. They delivered it right to the room, explained use of it and made sure we had no questions before the guy left.
I agree with the others that there is a lot of walking besides at the parks, but if he's that stubborn, I guess at least having one at the parks is a starting point.

There are no guarantees in the parks, but my FIL had no problem renting one from any of the parks last March. We were not there right at opening, but were there before 11.

If he has never used one, I recommend he go to a mall or grocery store near you where they are available. He will find they are pretty easy to use.

I agree that he shouldn't have a problem getting one at the parks. However, I also agree with the poster who said that there is a lot of walking outside of the parks. Just getting to the ecv rental locations from the bus stops is a hike and a half. Originally, my mother would rent in the parks, but she found the other walking so daunting that now she rents from an off site and it is wonderful!!!!!!:cool1:

My Dad was stubborn the first trip to WDW, But last trip we got him a ECV from Scootarama and he loved it, Got him one reserved for this next trip too. They will only be in the parks 2 days too.

My husband had surgery and has trouble walking distances. We have a portable scooter we take in the car with us whenever we are going anywhere where walking is involved. We have taken it to the parks and even on the cruise ship.
