Okay not getting a good feeling here so please set me straight.

Mom & DB family along with several other DVC family members stayed at SS beginning of March.one out of six had a good room, otherwise five had parking lot views.DB requested a two room got a one bedroom with another down the hall six rooms away! Spoke to the front desk told them his son was servely autistic and was not splitting up his family! He even said he would pay cash!! Wow talk about smokin'! What service as a DVC member!

So anyway DH & I are heading down and don't even want to bring the subject up with family so I am asking you for your thoughts right now just wringing my hands.
We are looking for someplace where we can relax as our kids won't be with us they will be with their HS at music competion at Epcot.

What size rooms did they have?
I'm not sure what they would have considered a parking lot view. Here's a copy of the SSR map. The part of the building that juts out (sort of the middle of the 'U' shape) is the front of the building. The front of the building is what faces the parking lots and there is so much landscaping that the front is pretty well removed and screened from the parking lot anyway. There are not windows on the front, so the rooms that might have parking lot view would be the ones on the ends.

That doesn't make sense. You don't request a 2 bedroom, that's what you reserve (unless all that was left when he made a reservationwas one bedrooms and he reserved that, but was on a waiting list for a 2 bedroom). If he reserved a 2 bedroom and paid for a 2 bedroom, that's what he should have gotten.
I wonder if he had a complicated reservation and made a mistake when reserving and thought he had reserved a 2 bedroom (it sounds like a lot of different rooms if there were at least 6 different). If he didn't check his confirmation sheet carefully, he would not have known until he got there.

Dh and I stayed at SSR twice now and in the same room both times. It was a parking lot view - studio on the front of the building. He wants me to request same room again so he can sit on the balcony and watch the people coming and going to the bus stop. It was also possible to look across most of the resort and watch fireworks in the evening from the balcony so I guess there are some parking lot views that are better than others. This one was in the 1500 section of CP. You say you are heading down - does that mean you have reservations and are thinking of changing them or that you are going to make reservations? The studios at OKW are on the ends of the buildings and can be quite closed in with foliage so I like the ones at SSR better because you can see more even if it is the parking lot. We also like the studios that have a sofa and bed instead of the 2 beds as in OKW. What size unit do you want and do you want to conserve points or maybe use more and try for the boardwalk area at BCV or BWV. Those are great for a couples get away and you would be near EPCOT for the music part of your stay if you plan to spend some time with the kids. I have to agree that something was wrong with the reservation your DB had and whether it was DVCs fault or a misunderstanding on your DBs part is hard to tell. If he requested a 2BR then it was really messed up. If he requested two room next to each other it may not have been possible because of the way the rooms are arranged. Hopefully the rest of their trip worked out okay.

I have looked at the map to see where they were and yes he had booked a two bedroom. My brother is a stickler for details (he sells international bonds privatly as his profession) and definetly had a two bedroom reserved. He has booked before so he wasn't a newbie. We as a family have never had an issue at BW like this, glitches yes but not like this.
Between my DM, DB and three cousins there was at least five DVC owners with a total of over 2,000 points. I know it isn't theamount of points that gets you help but when you have that many rooms booked and confirmed there should be a red flag.
It was so important to my nephew to be able to see "the lights" as it is one of the things he looks foward to. This subject gets a little personal. He cannot handle the sounds of the fireworks or business of the parades with his handicap. It is hard to find something that gets an autistic child to react so deeply that this wasn't "just" a parking lot view. Imagine having the only thing to bring a spark to your childs eyes. The reservation was confirmed & reconfirmed.

Sorry DH & I only want a studio. No kids so all we need is the bare necessities. He & I and a bottle of chilled wine.

Obviously requests are just that and are not guaranteed. I'm still confused about the 2 BR issue. What I am getting is that you had a 2 BR reserved and they gave you a 1 BR plus a studio that was not connected, am I reading this correctly? Was any of this through II by chance or was it all points reservations?

Dean, I know you have been on these boards for a long time and heard of things that don't make sense and this doesn't pass the logic test for sure.
He booked a two bedroom. One room for my DB & SIL and another for my other nephew & his friend that accompanied them. My other nephew starts out with the boys and ends up with mom & dad. He wants to be with the boys but needs to have mom & dad near by.
Yes they could have dealt with the room split but DN is getting "big" and at times a two person situation.

Forgive me, I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand. This was a points reservation for a 2 BR booked with MS which the resort on their own split up, if I'm understanding correctly. What explanation did they give, what did they say when your family let them know this was unacceptable? Did they check in particularly late? Did they offer to move them the next day?

Things really don't add up here. It really sounds like this really was booked as a separate 1 BR and studio with the request they be put together but they were not.

While this was a very strange and upsetting situation don't let it make you nervous. It has to be a one in a million happening. Will it ruin your trip if you get a parking lot view - if so try to get a room at one of the EPCOT DVC resorts. I can understand where you would hesitate to discuss your plans with the group that just went. How many total people were involved? I got a little lost when you said He booked a two bedroom, One room for my DB & SIL and another for my other nephew & his friend that accompanied them. Was this a total of three rooms? A 2BR and 2 studios? I hope that you and you DH can have a nice relaxing time whichever resort you chose and enjoy watching the kids with the musical program.

One in a million probably! Once again a reservation for a TWO bedroom was made when they arrived they were given a one bedroom and another six doors down the hall. If I didn't hear it from several relatives I wouldn't believe it either but then again there was the Thanksgiving we had a party of 18 and ALL of our rooms were cancelled! That one took more than a glass of wine at the bar while they figured that out.Now my husband knows why I get wacko when I plan a trip. I get everything and confirm everything at least three times. I type out an itinerary for everything from airline, car rental and rooms with times.
Guess the family won't be going to vegas!
:rolleyes1

What explanation did DVC or the resort give?
