Anyone a member of D23? What do you get with membership-Just wondering if it is worth the price tag?

I'm a first day charter memeber and LOVE it. Many will tell you otherwise, but for me it's worth every dime. If you have a Gold membership you get the magazine which is a really lovely glossy thing, and they throw in a little gift monthly. Even without Gold you get the yearly membership gifts. You get discounts(current 15% off at Disney store, no miminum purchase, is much better than Disney Visa). The best thing for me are the events. They are trying hard to make them more available across the country (the night at Newsies looks great if you can get to NY easily), but the ones I've been at have all been at CA. I've been to both Expos and have tickets for the third, I've gone to 2 Destinations D's..not to be missed amazing times, and the CarsLand preview including dinner with John & Nancy Lasseter. For me, it is WELL worth it, but for others not so much.

I think it totally depends on where you live. We live in Ohio. I was a charter member, and chose not to renew my membership this month. They never even sent me a renewal notice- nothing.
In my few years of membership all that I was able to do was get the magazine and the token gifts.
We go to WDW annually, and I have an AP. Never once was there an event going on while we were there. You have to have some notice to plan trips, and they really didn't give you much time.
Prices for events also seem to have increased. Note that events are far from free.
I can't say I'd recommend it.

It really depends on where you live. We're in Southern California, so we have been to several free events, mostly movie premiers, that have been a ton of fun. We've been to the Up premier in Hollywood, the John Carter premier in Hollywood, The Princess and the Frog premier at Disney Studios, taken a tour of the Disney Studios and archives, Fanniversary was just a few weekends ago and was about $15. I don't think any of the events have been over-priced. If you don't live where you can get to LA, it's probably not as great a bargain though because most of the events are centered around Disneyland.

If you can't get to any events, it's really just paying for the honor of spending more money on items with a "D23" logo.

I agree it depends on your location. I was gifted a membership and aside from the nice magazines, it had no benefit for me. However, I renewed last month because Fanniversary event will be in Seattle which is an easy 5 hour drive for me. I'm not sure if I'll continue after this year. It would depend on the events, I suppose.

Thanks for all of your advice. I am in Wisconsin so it sounds like it wouldn't be worth it. You all just saved me money to go towards our trip fund! :)
