D23 Parks Live Stream Discussion

Okay, so there are two lounges! I missed that due to livestream lag. Spaceship Earth and Pirates. I still haven't been able to get into the Space 220 lounge so these should be interesting.

I don’t know when completion will be, likely 6mo-2 years after they actually announce opening timelines lol The only one I feel like they had a good idea about timeline is the AK expansion said to be finished in 2027, but Josh did say right at the end that all of this (minus the 4 cruise ships) are in their 5-yr plan so by 2029-2030 for everything?….

Also someone on one of the other forums tallied up the cost of everything announced so far and they’ve only scratched the surface of the $60billion investment they’ve pledged to parks and experiences, roughly totaling $12billion spent altogether and about $4billion at WDW (of the $17billion?), so far.

I think this isn’t the end of announcements and with D23 Brazil in a few months and then of course destination D23 next year in Orlando, I could see quite a few more announcements in the near-ish future once they solidify more plans.

So for these new lands/rides set to begin construction in 2025, does anyone know what that means as far as potential opening dates?
I believe Encanto/Indy was the only one that was given an opening timeframe (2027), and that happens to be the one where we’ve known for awhile where they’ll be building and they basically just confirmed that plans haven’t changed. Haven’t seen anyone bother to guess when the others might open, probably because there are a lot of moving parts involved and we don’t even know where exactly theyll be building them. I’ve seen three guesses/predictions about where Monsters will go. A lot of unknowns.

not to be too much of a pessimist do you think they will build everything they announced. This seems a bit more doable than previous announcements but the track record is concerning to me.

I don't think it's pessimistic; it's being realistic when looking at previous Disney projects. There will 100% be things cut out from the final product. Out of everything announced, the Villains land seems the most likely candidate to get budget cuts to parts of it.

When they started the presentation, Josh said that none of this was blue sky and that they "will build everything that we announce tonight"

Didn’t they say construction has already started on villains land? I feel like it might be safest if it is already underway.

Hopefully they don’t make too many changes, because this is the one I am most looking forward too.

E5@- I edited this comment because I misunderstood what I was replying to, I do think it will go through.

I am also under the impression that Cars is intended to be an addition to Frontierland (the rumored Beyond Big Thunder Mountain) rather than a replacement. Though hearing that announcement wasn’t met with great excitement isn’t too surprising.

Not going to lie, way more excited about a new parade in Magic Kingdom than the new expansions. The Monsters Inc roller coaster DOES catch my attention though, certainly the ride I found most interesting coming to WDW.

EDIT: HOLD UP VILLAINS LAND? I didn’t realize the announcements were still dropping 😂 (I didn’t want to fool with Fortnite)
The way Cars land was announced as a "reimagined" part of Frontierland, it must be replacing something. I'm inclined to believe the rumor about Tom Sawyer Island is true. I'd be fine with them retheming it for modern audiences, but my kids love that play space. With the shooting gallery and "Laughing Place" playgrounds gone, there won't be anything left in Frontierland that doesn't involve long lines and/or spending more money. Good from Disney's perspective, but not how my family likes to travel.

I'm not saying it won't be built but that things will be cut out of the project due to budget issues. That happened with Pandora, Galaxy's Edge and even Tiana. Tiana’s initial concept art doesn't look like what we ended up actually getting.

I'm just rewatching the parks panel and Josh stated that everything announced here is in "active" development. I'm now realizing I missed a lot with that lag last night. o_O

Oh okay, that makes sense. I wasn't aware of the Cars/MK rumor myself.
