D23 Info...New?

I bought in because I can waste 75 bucks and it not affect me that much. But let me go through your comments. The magazine is beautiful yet overpriced. No magazine normally costs 15 bucks each. The expo only gives a $7 savings. I have heard straight from the Disney geeks running D23 that the main point is the CONTENT on the website. So I ask again, what's the freakin' point about it being exclusive when it isn't? So I'm paying 75 up front for an overpriced magazine and the privilege of saving 7 dollars off an Expo that takes place in Anaheim? Woo hoo sign me up. haha

And your quote that I have put in bold is just hilarious. How can you honestly say that with a straight face? That's about as obvious a contradiction that I have seen written about D23.

Because you don't have to join to "be 23". You can simply enjoy the online content and/or go to the Expo and/or buy the magazine off the shelf and/or participate in things like the artist meet they just held at DL. D23 is what you make it. Where is the same outrage over the WDCC? You have to pay $60 to join and you get a 4-5" figurine, a pin and the right to buy other (more expensive) WDCC pieces.

And the Expo gives a $7 savings on up to 4 people, so if you are brining the family the savings adds up.

And I disagree that the magazine is overpriced. Check out the cost of some monthly magazine out there. It is eeasy to find them for $8-10 an issue, and those include ads. Disney twenty-three is ad free, has content you cannot find anywhere else (unless you work in the Disney Archives) and has wonderfully photography.

As the OP, I have to agree with a lot of the points made here on this thread. I loved hearing different POV from the different podcasts. I have mixed feelings about D23. I am pretty neutral either way. It's a nice thing to have for those interested in Disney history (which I am) and for collectors. Not so much a great thing for those that wanted a loyalty program of some sort (which I wanted). Even though I have the $75 to spend on a membership for D23, I'm choosing not to. I will, however, visit the website frequently.

Well, they've already reduced the international shipping charges to Canada by 50 % (but $24.99 extra to ship 5 items per year?) Not sure about other countries, but they certainly got started off on the wrong foot with Canadians by adding such as huge amount.

Obviously, D23 was not as well received up here as they had hoped it would be.

Yes, I listened to it yesterday. I listen to several different WDW 'casts. They all have their own "personality" and give their own point of view. Just like when I watch the news, I listen to several different broadcasts.

Many thanks to all the hardworking 'casters who take time out of their busy schedules each week to share Disney news!:thumbsup2

As for D-23, well, I'll wait and see.;)

Eric I just finished listening to this show at lunch-time. Very interesting interviews.
I still think Disney took their eye off the ball regarding pricing for oversea fans. But if I saw the magazine while in Orlando I would probably purchase a copy :)

D23 just did change their shipping rates for out of the US to $25.00

It is better than nothing.:thumbsup2

I just checked and shipping to the UK (I put in my details) is $57.95 :scared1:

That puts the total at almost £100, twenty quid for each magazine and another 20 for the 'special gift'. I want to find out what the gift is first.

For me with no other incentives at present (we would not be able to get to CA in Sept and wih no dates yet for 'in park' events) it's just not worth it, I can't believe it would cost them that much to send it to the UK - even give us the option of surface mail which in my experience doesn't always take that long :confused3

I would really have loved to join from the start but it's just not viable financially.

Just picked up a copy of the magazine at the Poly gift shop yesterday (list price is $15.95 + tax).

Skimmed it on the plane and it is definitely a sharp looking magazine (but I"ve only skimmed it). On the surface it looks a lot (look and content) like the Tales from the Laughing Place magazine.

When it comes to exclusive meets and in park functions (not the expo), will this be for D23 members or can you bring friends/family? I cannot fathom spending $150 so DW & I can both attend these things, and I def do not need two copies of the "magazine". I guess my question is will we get to attend these events together or would one of us get excluded b/c we don't have a D23 membership? We won't attend enough to justify $150, but seeing as we might end up buying the coffee table books (sounds better than magazine) anyway, I would part with the extra $11 for the membership if it means we can both attend something at some point. Wow - that doesn't sound cohesive at all - gotta stop posting at 6AM!

The developers of D23 said you can bring around 4 guests. You also don't need to be a member to attend. Members get a discount on ticket(s) but anybody can attend.
