I got into the Animation panel under the Gold Priority seating so I didn't hear about the mess up until afterwards. We met some folks with wristbands for Live Action in our hotel elevator, actually. They said they weren't monitoring the doors upstairs properly and people got in to Hall D who hadn't been queuing below in Hall E, contributing to the number of folks who missed out
And I was actually outside the Dream Store when the crash happened. I was waiting for my husband who was in the line to checkout. We split up our Storepasses with him going to the Dream Store and myself going to Disney, so we knocked out all our shopping today. Surprisingly, the
Disney Store still had some limited edition items even towards the end of the day. The Stormtrooper Tsum Tsums, Red She Hulk Rock Candy, and Star Wars Cantina 3-Pack Dorbz were all still in stock at 5pm.
My husband also got into the Incredibles 2 signing with Brad Bird at the Animation booth whilst I was shopping at the Disney Store. He said they distributed numbered cards (1 to 100) about 30 mins prior to the signing start, but there was little to no crowd control in the area so people were waiting all over the place. And they started shouting at the amassed crowd not to push or rush at the staff handing out cards or they would cancel the signing. So it was pretty chaotic until they ran out of cards and properly formed the queue.
Also we talked to staff at Talent Central and the Music Emporium about how the signing queues would work there as well and the answers were none too encouraging. At Talent Central, the cast member said there is no set times for queues and they can only officially start lines once they are told, so basically you just need to keep checking and circling until the queue opens for the Meet and Greet you want. It was pretty much the same thing at the Music Emporium with the addition of the signing queue also requiring a product purchase. This was first thing in the morning, though, so they may have learned some things throughout the day and I wouldn't be surprised if come Saturday they institute new policies based on what failed on Friday :/
Finally, I read on
Parks on Con twitter that in order to get wristbands for the Black Panther signing folks lined up at 9pm the day before, so expect similar (or worse) craziness on Saturday.
But having said all that, I had an amazing time today and accomplished everything on my wish list (and then some) for the day - Storepass shopping, Animation panel, Incredibles 2 signing, and even an artist signing at the Wonderground Gallery. Plus, I met absolutely wonderful Disney fans in every queue we ended up in, which made passing the time all that quicker.
