D23 Expo 2011! Who's attending?

I got the same one, but rather than find out that I will get my packet, I would rather hear about what it going to happen, what is the schedule?

I'll try and update and repost the list over the weekend, please be patient!

What is the Premiere logo thing? The Sorcerer one (on the email) is a gold Sorcerer Mickey hat over a star. We can check in at 12:30 on Thursday.
To the poster visiting Imagineering and Studio, how are you doing that? We got to, but it was only through the ABD Backstage Magic tour.

The Premiere logo is the same thing, only with blue instead of gold. We're allowed to check in Thursday at 6:30 PM.

I also get in on Sunday, we will do parks Mon, Tues, Thur. Weds going out to visit Imagineering and Burbank studio, and maybe the El Capitan theatre and Mickeys Soda Shoppe. Will you be at GC or GCV? We will be at DL Hotel

Looking for someone at the villas to get us onto the observation deck, haha. In May, we had a room right next to it, and could see World of Color from our room perfectly, it was SO cool! :cloud9:

We will be at DLH the whole time. I thought about moving for the days during the convention, but I like being in the Magic, way too much. :wizard:

I booked the Fantasmic Dessert package today for Aug 15, Monday night. Its getting closer!

Just a FYI that wow radio show has a great podcast this week on the expo. Good suggestions (like wear comfortable shows, bring snacks and water etc) and all kinds of good information.

I heard the podcast (it was FANTASIC) and just got me more excited! I'm trying to figure out what type of snacks I want to bring so I'll be able to stand in line and not have to worry about passing out from hunger. I'm thinking some tuna snack kits and dried fruit (to be healthy) and then some red vines to boost the sugar level.

We also just bought an external battery pack so we won't have to try and find an outlet to charge up the phones/cameras/iPods.

To anyone that was at the Expo before, what type of food is available at the convention center? Was it any good or about the same as vending machine items?

Listening to that show just made me even more anxious/worried about the lack of info we have so far. Why wouldn't they release more info etc so we can plan our time better??? And I don't have tix yet hope they arrive in time.

Me, me, me! Staying at CCI. Regular package.

..meh...it seemed like alot of the places listed in the Expo book weren't open. We usually got stuff at little places that had wraps, salads, cold sandwiches..once we found an open area that was outside on a patio and managed to get a burger (that was soaking in hot water)..we got a snack or two of ice cream. Really blah..not affiliated with Disney at all. We ate a big breakfast at the most expensive IHOP in the world and then I brought in cheese sticks, granola bars, etc to avoid the Convention Center food. I think I can still taste the Portabella mushroom wrap..and that was 2 years ago.

I liked the podcast but really don't get why they'd say they hope they have less things happening at the same time to choose from. If they didn't then the log jam at the smaller venues would be horrible. At least with several things to choose from everyone wasn't herding to the same hall at the same time all day long.

I also found the patio outside. The food was okay, nothing special. The snacks I usually pack are string cheese, celery and pretzels. I usually carry a bottle of water as well.
I have not heard the podcast as yet. But, like nunzia I too hope that they have multiple things scheduled for the same time. Just like any convention, that way nothing is too crowded and you really have to choose. I can only remember being turned away from one lecture. And I also remember getting in line for the lectures I did not want to miss at least an hour before they were scheduled to begin. :tink:

Last time we went home every night. The first day we ate bad food from the convention center. The next day we drove by Subway on our way in. The third day I made sandwiches at home and I think I did the same on the last day.

This year I figure after we go shopping Thursday night, we'll have our only good meal of the weekend. We have a travel cooler that works as well as a refrigerator and we have a small microwave that we take when we don't stay at DVC properties. We'll probably make sandwiches for lunch and bring some chips, fruit & cookies or brownies for lunch.

For dinner I'll probably have some microwavable dinners that I preprepare at home (nice that we can drive in) with a bag of salad.

For those staying at the CCI, I believe there is a Subway on the corner of Harbor and Katella (don't quote me) where one could get a sandwich for lunch. If you are stuck with convention center food, the best locations for tastyish food are outside, either on the rooftop patio, courtyard in the center of the hall, or the carts out in front of the entrance.

Getting nourishment while trying to see everything is certainly a challenge. There isn't time for fine dining or even Table Service meals. The string cheese suggestions and other snacks are a great idea. Now if they would just release some kind of complete schedule!!!!!!!

Does that advice about food + drinks apply to this year's expo? Was the "no outside food" policy in place in 2009 as well and they just didn't check bags?

http://d23.disney.go.com/expo/articles/thingstoknow.html#food

I'd love to bring some snacks and water too, but was afraid they'd got tossed out by security. (is there even security/bag check?)

I'm sure they will have security checking (just like at the parks) and DL requests that you don't bring food into the parks as well, but DL security lets you bring in stuff. Since this security is most likely provided by the convention center, they might be a little more firm since they are trying to protect the convention center business. I'm still going to bring in some snacks and if I have to toss them I will. I just have to figure out how to buy the stuff, we'll be coming from the ABD tour and then checking into the Marriott for the Expo. We might taxi it down to the grochery store, or we might rent a car for the day.

But I agree I wish they would just release the schedule!

If it was in place, they didn't enforce it. The only place that they had security checking bags was the entrance to the Arena. My partner was riding a scooter (mine broke down the week before) and had a bag on the back of the scooter, in that we had a softsided cooler packed with our goodies. When we went into the Arena the security guard asked what that was and I told him, "Lunch". He had me open it to see that there were in fact chips and sandwiches inside. Good thing he didn't make me remove it becuase our cell phones and camera were hidden underneath the cooler. I remember we even snacked on the Fritos in the arena waiting for the presentation to start.

Hmmmm....I have the 2009 guide book saved on my computer and there was no mention of outside food. It might be different this year, we may have to sit outside eating the food that we bring.

How did the camera/phone check work during the 2009 expo? What presentations restricted electronic devices? Did you have to hand in all your bags and everything? Or was it just the electronic things like cameras, video cameras, cell phones? Where did the store the stuff? Did they give you a ticket or something so you claim your stuff back?

Just trying to figure out what I want to take into the Expo.

Thanks!

The "electronic" check-in was only in the Arena. Yes, they did give you a claim ticket. When you came back you went to tables that were placed with letters of the alphabet. You went to the table that had the letter that your last name starts with and handed them your claim ticket. It actually ran very smoothly.
