Hmmm-not sure if this a negative or a positive thing but there is a D23 event running during part of our Aulani stay. The pro to me will be Disney addicts like myself being there. The con will be it will probably make the resort fuller, if not at capacity and the areas for the events like the Star Light Hui might be used for the exclusive stuff. Yikes, not sure what to think about this but there isnt much I can do about it. Any thoughts...

When D23 has their event at the Contemporary every 2 years, it's a couple hundred people. Given the costs of attending this event, I suspect turnout will be a lot smaller. Aulani has a convention center and ballroom space, so I would assume most events would happen there.

Thanks hopemax, I forgot they have the ballroom so that might alleviate any crowding. I read on the D23 site that there is a special screening outside of Moana so I am thinking that will close down one general movie night but I am not going to worry about it.

When we were there, there was some conference (I can't remember whose?), and they had their events in a ballroom and on a different lawn than the Hui lawn. That smaller lawn over by the car rental window along the non-pool/beach side of Ewa, if you know what i'm talking about? (Our room happened to overlook it.) They had a whole cocktail hour set-up thing there. I think it's actually much easier for them to contain, so only the folks who are supposed to be there are there.

Great-thank you for this post, I didnt realize they had a second lawn, this makes me feel better!

Yup, it's that Kipuka lawn that doesn't get used much otherwise. I think they used it for hula and that was it during the week we were there (other than the conference).
