D23 2017

So 2017 is my 10 year anniversary. DH has expressed an interest in possibly going to D23. I am on board with anything Disney. How far in advance would I want to book my hotel. I am going to start saving now, so I can make this happen. Thank you!

I usually book it as soon as I can, which is usually in late Fall of the year before. I just put down a deposit to hold the room. I stay at a Disney hotel, usually Paradise Pier, but I am not sure how it goes with the offsite hotels. They may not announce the dates until late summer or early Fall.

I booked my room a year out and got an amazing deal on a Good Neighbor hotel.

Just a note: D23 Expo 2017 hasn't been announced yet -- which is a bit unusual as each Expo has been announced at the one before. I've heard rumblings that they're considering a relocation, but I really hope not! Hopefully we'll hear news soon!

If it's in the same place, I recommend booking the attached Hilton hotel instead of another one. It makes like 100x easier when you can run back to the room to drop stuff off, and don't have to trek somewhere at the end of the evening to sleep. By the time we booked it it was sold out for all but one night, and I wish we'd had it for all 3.

We are booking at the Hilton in 2017 if it is happening. Also going to try and score a Socerer's Package. I know it is a ton of money but my fiance and I agreed no more cons of any type unless we can afford to do it VIP style. So until kiddos come along we will do it as much as possible.

After standing in the hot sun for the parks panel and in every single line out of the pair I said no more with out the package. Fiance has several anxiety in crowds and mine does not social and crowd based so I agreed to do all the standing in crowded lines. We got the approval from guest services as long as I wore his badge since it would prevent him from doing other stuff that was sought after like getting cards, shopping, or getting panel passes. I was thankful for the accommodation but seriously hated being the one to stand in every line and hardly got to do exactly what I wanted since I was always in a darn line.

Thankfully most of our waiting was inside, but we had to be there very early for the privilege. I could have seen so many more panels if I had the Sorcerers Pass.

I second this...
The Hilton is literally steps from the Convention Center and Disney usually has a D23 discount rate. However, you can typically find better with AAA or something like that, but keep checking the D23 page as the event gets closer and book as soon as you can. The Anaheim Convention Center Mariott is also a great place to stay...

A word of warning:
*DO NOT* stay at the Anaheim Convention Center Clarion. We made that mistake during D23 2016 because the DGF saw that it was 20.00 cheaper per night than the Hilton. We should have stayed at the Hilton. The rooms were old and very worn. The wall paper was peeling, and in some cases didn't even make it all the way down to the end of the wall. The curtains were tattered, the ac filter looked like it hadn't been changed in years. The information folder and laminated "how was your stay" card featured mystery food stains. The ceiling tiles in the hallway were stained, the carpets in the hallway were rippled and loose, and we had to move rooms because the first room had some sort of mystery teab bag, or otherwise unidentifiable object on the headboard. The staff...could not have cared less and their GM was always mysteriously in a meeting, or simply "not available" whenever I asked for them. At the end, we were offered a pathetic discount for our trouble. We're kind of local, but not local enough to want to drive every day to the convention, so we stayed as the price at the Hilton had gone up significantly by then.

I think the renovations should be done by then to the Arena. Sorcerers tickets are very very limited and hard to score, they sell out in a few minutes.

I hope they announce at least the DATES soon. I want to time it with an Alaskan cruise and booking airfares etc from Australia needs to also be done a fair way out.

I completely agree no other place is suitable, especially given the amount of talent they bring in. However, I attended and everything I've read said 2017 has not been confirmed. Am I missing something somewhere that you've heard?

Hi, hoping you can give me some advice, I found this thread while looking online for the 2017 expo dates, you sound like you know lots about the expo - I'm from NZ and am trying to decide whether it's worth travelling all that way to attend the expo, I'm a huge Disney fan but I've read so many mixed reviews online as to whether it's worth it. Apart from the huge stores and presentations you can try and attend (which I'm confused about too as I've read there are only so many tickets for the presentations and that the queues for the Stores are crazy), is there much else to see there - if you miss out on presentation tickets is it still worth attending? Hope you can help! Thanks

"Worth it" is very subjective, especially when describing D23 Expo. If you can be happy with soaking in the atmosphere and seeing whatever presentations are available to you, then it might very well be worth it. If you won't be happy unless you get into the big events, see certain celebrities, and buy limited merchandise, then it might not be worth such a long journey. The attendees who seem to fare the best are the ones who do their research and then go with the flow. They know what they want to do and understand that they can't possibly do it all. We've been to 3 Expos so far and enjoyed them, but we can see how the Expo experience isn't for everyone.
