I dont get why they could not put 2 beds in the studios?? They did for OKW.:confused3

I mean it would be perfect for ALOT of people. Some people do not need kitchens.

In a BLT the second bedroom with two queen beds would be great.

Don't the dedicated BLT 2 bedrooms have 2 beds in the 2nd bedroom? OKW is the only DVC with 2 beds in all studios and thus the lock-off two bedrooms.

While for us the 2 queens works great, there are many members that prefer the bed/sleeper sofa arrangement. I wouldn't look for any new resort to offer 2 queens in a studio or lock-off 2nd bedroom.

Why would my wife and I need two queen beds? Not everyone travels in herds at WDW.

But. 1 adult and 2 teenagers how is that gonna work?

In the ads and booklets they act like a Studio is the same as a hotel room. :confused3

1st it has only 1 queen bed

2nd: smaller rooms

Why cant Disney offer something in the middle of a studio and 1 bedroom?

Its like the assume everyone that buys DVC is going with a huge family and is going to cook.

My DH and I usually book a 1BR for the two of us. We enjoy having all that space, especially since we don't spend all our time at the parks. If we had two kids, I think we would appreciate the 1BR even more, especially at AKV or BLT where you get a second full bathroom. Having a washer and dryer in the room means I can easily do a load or two of laundry mid-way through our stay so we can pack lighter than we used to.

I don't want to eat out every meal on vacation so we do use the kitchen. We fix breakfast most mornings and one or two light dinners. It helps keep both our dining costs and the vacation weight gain within reason. Most of the food prep that we do could be done in a studio as well but we prefer having real dishes and cutlery. (The studios have a one-day supply of paper plates and plastic-ware.)

And after a day in the parks, soaking in the jacuzzi tub with a glass of wine is a great way to relax!

It's exactly the opposite, i think.

People buy DVC because they don't want to pack a bunch of people into a single room anymore. DVC is all about getting that extra space and being able to spread out.

So, i'd guess that studios are mostly used by singles and couples. Some couples get a one bedroom for the space, jacuzzi and kitchen. I've even gotten a one bedroom when traveling solo once or twice.

For singles and couples, the queen + sofa bed arrangement is great because we don't need the second bed, and having the sofa there instead of a bed gives you more room to walk around.

The same it would work with 2 beds. It would work the same whether it was 2 beds or 1 bed and a pull-out sofa. It's still only 2 beds, regardless. The reason I like the pull-out sofa is I can fold it up during the day and have somewhere to actually sit.

Even when we stay in studios with the 4 of us we like being able to fold up the sofa during the day and having a couch to it on.

I think if you took a pole.. you would end up with 50-50 on answers. I think they do it to make the room look bigger. For the record with the sofa folded up the room looks HUGE. (compared to a reg. room).
I could not see another booking catagory as there are toooo many, and waitlists would be.. I would like a preffered view, sofabed and a preffered view 2 Q. So I assume they made a judgement call years ago to take the side that looks bigger and would make just as many people happy.

I think a Sofa Bed works best with 2 adults, or even 2 adults and a kid. .. And for those taking a tour. More than that, I assume they would like you to take a 1 or 2 bedroom.

I completely agree, I think everyone has different needs and of course they can't all be met. We just joined DVC and are a family of 4 with two teenagers, DD is 13 and DS is 16. Our first DVC stay we had a one bedroom and our next trip we also have a one bedroom. Which is great. However we have a short trip planned for 3 days, to save points we are going to get a studio. At their ages my kids don't like sleeping in the same bed and on other vacations we try very hard to make sure they don't have to. It is not a big deal, but in studio not only will have they have to sleep in the same bed, but it will have to be the sofa bed. I guess we could try bringing an air mattress, like I said we are new to DVC so not sure how that will work. Overall I guess it isn't a big deal, but I know there will be times we will be in a studio and 2 beds would really be nice. Though I know we will just make the best of it, we are in Disney afterall. :goodvibes

It encourages people with families to book bigger rooms - more points - more revenue for Disney.

It apparently (Dean will correct me if I misremember) a common timeshare setup, making people who trade in understand what they are getting.

It provides a homey "studio apartment" feeling that is more what DVC is going for than "hotel room."

It provides the most possible flexibility out of a single room - if you want two beds, you pull out the sofa. If you don't need two beds, you get a sofa.

This last point is really important. Because DVC runs at such high occupancy, getting maximum flexibility out of each room is important.

Our family consists of myself, dh and dd (almost 17). We use a studio with no issues whatsoever..well, sort of. My dh gets the sofa bed and dd and I share the queen. dh is 6'4", I'm 5'8" and dd is 5'10"....dh gets to spread out that way.
I suppose that if guests wanted to, they could just leave the sofa bed open...then it's like having two beds. But, it's no big deal to close it up each morning.
I love the studios just the way they are. They are one of the reasons I bought DVC. I travel to WDW either solo or with just my dd a lot. I don't like having that second bed there...takes up way too much room. I like to sit on the sofa when I eat my lunch or just to watch tv. I hate having to do that on a bed.

Of course, after our last trip, my dh has told me he wants to stay in a one bedroom from now on. That old saying 'once you stay in a one bedroom, you'll never go back to a studio' is right on the money for him!!!

An OKW studio is the largest and larger than most hotel rooms. It also has 2 queen beds, so the answer to your problem is to only book studios at OKW.

As for us...we didn't buy DVC to stay in a hotel room. We wanted to have a vacation "home" at Disney, so even if it's just the two of us, we stay in a 1 bedroom with the living space. There is NO WAY I would ever stay in a studio with more than 2 people unless one of them was under the age of 5.

I seldom book studios but when we do, I like the ability of folding up the sleeper to have more room and a place to sit rather than the bed. Just my preference. As Crisi pointed out, Disney is designed for maximum flexibilityand in the end that's why we book 2bd. Personally, other than a day or 2, I find the studios a bit claustrophobic but I applaud those of you who make it work! I sleep very little so I really need the living room, that way I don't disturb anyone!

I like the arrangement with the studios, particularly since we only use the studio with just DW and me. I don't like to go back to a room and basically all you have is two beds and no where to sit. Once we became DVC members we've spent more time in the room and the comfort level is much better than a standard hotel room.

I would guess those folks would be just as happy in a hotel room. I view the DVC has my home away from home and like all the perks the units offer.

We are also in the camp of preferring the studios with the one bed and the sofa.

That's why we did extensive research and touring before we bought DVC.

It was too big of a committment to just write a check sight unseen.

We decided the 5 of us (and the ages the kids are now) that nothing less than a 2 bedroom (dedicated whenever possible) would work for us. Vacation, to us, is not cramming as many people into the smallest space possible. We want the space, we want the washer/dryer, we want enough bathrooms, we want the convenience of a kitchen, whether we use it very frequently or not (mostly not!).

Therefore, after seeing our options, we purchased enough points to do 2-3 good sized trips a year in a 2 bedroom.

For one trip, we booked 2 BLT studios because we wanted to try BLT, and the trip was just for 4 nights. Let me tell you, a BLT studio with 2 tweens was sheer misery. Never again.

It was all about the research for us though. Too much money to just fork it over and risk being disappointed later.

Well at the polynesian they have 2 queen beds and there is a sofa?

DVC isn't for everyone. Perhaps it isn't for you based on your needs.

Or you could buy enough points to use at the Polynesian for your trips - using points for Disney hotels versus DVC resorts come at quite a premium however. But if you feel it's worth it to you....
