D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

Am I the only one that would think it would be fun to do a daily weather report for our days and then update it....so we can see how much it changes before we actually get there? is that a crazy idea?

I am such a geek!

Anyway...right now there are three tropical systems in the Atlantic we are watching and only one is possibly going to hit FL - and would be long gone by the time we get there.

That one actually looks like it is going to go straight over central FL........ So...I guess if you are going in the next few days...you may want to keep an eye on that one. Not even named yet - may never be named - maybe it will just rain a bit?

I would love this! Then I don't have to watch it myself. ::yes:: ;)

Embrace your geek-ed-ness.

Welcome to my morning
Welcome to my day
I’m the one responsible
I made it just this way
To make myself some pictures
See what they might bring
I think I made it perfectly
I wouldn’t change a thing

I love that song- who sang it?? Anyone know- (hint, I really love ALL of his stuff!)

now on with some well-deserved responses....

My fondest downpour memory was at WL. We were waiting for the boat after dinner at WCC and it started.
Finally after it lets up a little, my DH pops his head out. WHAT! Why did you not let someone know you got on the Boat? He had been safe and dry ( relatively) all along. Thanks for helping the rest of us out.:rotfl2:

I cannot blelieve I have no pictures of this event. I think this was the relatively no picture trip.

Great story , PR!! So funny DH was all safe and cozy in his PRIVATE hideaway. :lmao: I think if you had had pics, they'd have been waterspotted!

That storm sounds scary! :scared1:

FL is the lightning capitol of the world!

I am very cautious about lightning.

It really freaks me out.

So...

For rainy day activities - I will NOT be anywhere near a pool. :rotfl:

I have really enjoyed Epcot in the rain. We went on Rachel's trip and did Soarin', ate at the Land, explored the Seas, did Turtle Talk with Crush and the Character Spot at Epcot without really walking much in the rain at all. It was a great way to kill a rainy afternoon and by the time we were done it was sunny and pretty warm outside (this was in December). Worked out great!

I love the idea of doing the monorail tour of the resorts, too.

Although...I may take the opportunity for a nap or a long relaxing shower. :cloud9: It would be fun to hang out in the room a bit and get all fixed up to go out to eat or something. That would be fun.

OK, then swimming it out. Even the hot tub. ;)

I can see spending a fair amount of time in the Seas Pav. watching the fish. ;) THat could be a possibility.

There is really a surprising amount of fun stuff to do at the resorts. I think so far that's the best idea!

You do realize if you take time getting all fixedto go out for dinner, then going in the rain to get there, you'll have wasted your time. Oh wait, unless you grabbed a cab.

People don't realize the pipes will conduct into an indoor pool not to mention all the wired and plumbing equipment.:sad2:

I really had never ever considered that!! THANKS!!

I need a rainy day plan myself! Love the monorail shopping idea. We will probably hit DQ in the event of rain. I'm hopping it's all of the little to middlin variety versus torrential.

Though I dunno, I could drink my way around the world in a downpour.

:lmao:

I am too. In fact, a little rain is a GREAT thing as Disney!! I remember dozens of trips to DLR as a kid and the park being completely devoid of human life becuase of it.

Hmmm.... not a bad idea there. then you would't care would you?!

Wellllllll....I was going to suggest hitting the water rides since you'll already be wearing a poncho/already wet! But...are you cool with those Maroo if its not lightening?

I could do water rides. I think if it's dangerous, Disney would close them. And already having a poncho on is certainly a bonus! :rotfl2: Yes, I'll add to my admitted dorkishness and tell you I DO wear ponchos on Splash, Kali, and anything else that may make me wet. Ever felt like you needed one on IaSW?? Ride with my BIL...

It could be REALLY fun to tour in the parks in a down pour. I also am quite keen to sitting in the room and DISing. ;)

AH yes!!! Live updates! :thumbsup2 ( I need a bigger, badder phone like yours!!)

It is not bad!!! But I do think it's kinda funny that your head is turned away, like you are saying "No pictures!" ;)

I think I was asking my son if he liked it?? I have another where the 2 of us our posing our little hearts out. :cloud9: It's a cute picture. And my shoes don't show. :lmao:

:rotfl: You will both be FINE. As long as you aren't dressed like the "Pumpkin Man" I've seen on a few TRs... Have you seen those pics? It's quite a get-up he has!

I've not run across him yet. NOw, I know to look out for him.

The kiddos looks so cute as clowns - my sisters and I did that once when we were young and bored. :goodvibes

I love it when the kids find soemthing to do that doesn't require electricity!! Except when they are cooking- then they can use all the gas or electricity they want. :yay:

Is it possible I made it in time for the question #9? I didn't see an answer yet, so here's mine:

SURE!! I am just about to put up the answer! But be careful, the next one, I"m only going to give 1 day!!

As for weather, I'm with you and That's Nice - September weather will be hot, humid, and possibly wet, so there's not much difference in preparation for a couple of degrees. There will probably be a chance of rain every day of your trip, but it doesn't always happen. And sometimes it's only for a few minutes.

Super!! I can deal with that!! I think I AM going to start looking at long-range forcasts just for fun- but will leave the real forecasting up to maroo!

That said, like Maroo I am OBSESSED with watching hurricane coverage. It probably won't change my plans in any way, but I just can't stop watching it ever since our 2004 VR trip in the middle of Hurricane Ivan - see wedding pic in my siggie.

I am obsessed with tornado and severe weather maps ever since my parents and sister and fam moved to Kentucky. Last time I was there, a little one came through our neighborhood and took out some trees and people's garages, so I like to know what kind of weather they are having.

We don't leave the parks unless it is downpouring non-stop for over 1-2 hours. Otherwise we like to enjoy the non-existent crowds as long as we can stay comfortable. In September, I don't think we have ever left b/c of rain, even during the hurricane. In December we did one day, b/c it was also cold and we were getting soaked even through the ponchos. Side note: the Disney ponchos hold up MUCH better than the $1 ponchos in a downpour!

I think if I was cold it'd be a whole nuther story! I HATE being cold!! REALLY, REALLY hate it.

Maybe I should get ONE really nice poncho, in case we have a whole day of crappy weather forecasted?

btw - I totally get you on the hot weather. DS3 and I were very excited today when we realized it was only about 90 degrees and partly cloudy this morning at 10, so we went to the park for the first time in weeks. We have had highs way over 100 for the last few months, but it is really only unbearable when it doesn't get below 100 even at night. :scared1:

Same here. It is getting old pretty fast. We finally had to decide (and commit) to run in the mornings! By the time it cools off, it's too dark. Ugh! 4 more- in the morning- I think everyone here knows I am NOT an AM person!

What to do on a rainy day? Well, first it depends on where you are and if you planned for the rain. Example: You're at Epcot just getting out of seeing "Impressions de France" and it's a torrential downpour outside. You have your ponchos with you but it's a looooooong walk to any store, except the WS stores. But it doesn't take long to peruse through them. If you find yourself in that situation, I'd just wait it out. Storms in Florida around this time of year don't last longer than 20 minutes..... unless it's a hurricane... then you'll have a whole new matter of limitations on your hands  One being that Disney will not let you leave your hotel room.

:scared1::scared1::scared1: They won't let you leave the room??!!!

WHOA!!

If the downpours only last less than 1/2 hour, I can certianly wait that out!! Could mean that it's time for another snack! ;)

Otherwise, if it's lightly or moderately raining, I say put on a brave face (and that poncho!) and get out there to enjoy the slightly emptier parks :thumbsup2

YES!! :thumbsup2

I'll have to remember to use acrylic paint next time I need to dress up! It looks so much better. I've never tried red curry. Yellow is just perfect while green leaves a little to be desired. Coffee table, huh? $60? :scratchin Shipping would be killer.

Yeah, might be more than the table-

by about 44 times. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I have no idea. Honestly, I'd love to see those kids run with their pants around their ankles :lmao:

I see it in Winco Foods all the time. :scared1: They look like some freak show with their boxers all crumpled up hanging out of the tops of their pants. Oh, and don't forget the LOOOOOOOOOong key chains too.

Duly noted.

:thumbsup2

I missed something, I think.

What was the reason not to do DTD in the rain, the fact that you have to walk from building to building?

I like the idea of monorail resort hopping. There's a lot of fun things to do in the monorail resorts in the way of shopping and exploring. And if you were so inclined, the Wilderness Lodge has a gorgeous fireplace with beautiful wooden rocking chairs in front of it, and also, if you ask at the front desk, they'll give you a sheet of clues to find the Hidden Mickeys hidden throughout the lobby / hotel. That could be a fun thing to do on a rainy day.

I'm not really sure in hindsight. It was Heidi who gave a stern warning to NOT to DTD! I could see pigging out at Ghiradelli just before assaulting Basin for an hour or so. :confused3

I had read that!! And too, LOVE that fireplace! :thumbsup2 I could also enjoy going over the the villas to see the Carolwood mini train mueseum.

I can only guess that EVERYONE has the same idea. I guess it would be super crowded. Add in the rain and I guess it could be pretty unpleasant. I went in the evening once and it was very crowded and it does take away from the experience.

I've never been when it's bee crowded. I'll bet it is no fun. Oh yeah, last time, the Lego play area WAS super crowded and my son was so sad there weren't any wheels for his Lego car.

I agree with this lament. I never got to try it either. :sad2:

I wish I was privvy to all the corporate thinking on this travesty.

Good morning, Liesa. We had not done Pleasure Island in years, but I was very upset when they closed it. The good news is the resort we stay at now has a night club with a DJ on the weekends so we can go there and walk (or crawl) to our room. ;)

HI there!!

Sometimes the parks close so EARLY! I like to have options for something to do between 9 and midnight. ::yes::

Good morning!

I love that song- who sang it?? Anyone know- (hint, I really love ALL of his stuff!)

I know, I know!

But I'll admit it...I Googled! :lmao: I like him too. I instantly think of a beloved green frog.

:rotfl2: Oh boy! You GOTTA tell the BIL story!!!

The poncho on water rides is not dorkish at ALL! I haven't done a water ride since 2006, for the simple fact that I don't like to walk around wet. Donning a poncho is an excellent solution. However, last September Joe went on Splash and I almost did - it was so blasted hot he needed a cool down! I might brave it this year. I might steal Wigd's idea and bring a shower cap though...!

AH yes!!! Live updates! :thumbsup2 ( I need a bigger, badder phone like yours!!)

I'm excited for it to come in the mail! Joe and I researched Disney apps tonight.

I think I was asking my son if he liked it?? I have another where the 2 of us our posing our little hearts out. :cloud9: It's a cute picture. And my shoes don't show. :lmao:

 That sounds like a very fun picture!

My problem with the rides that you get wet on is not the whole wet clothes thing, it's the hair thing. I have enough issues with my hair staying put not to need to get it drenched all over again. There are lots of photo ops, people! :rotfl2:

Wigd really does have it down with her shower cap though! That is the main reason I won't go on them either - my hair. When it was SUPER SHORT, I could do anything, but it's longer now, and requires 1.2 gallons of hairspray. Water + my hair, would = a gooey yucky craZy mess. I still might do it though, with or without shower cap - and just hope for the best... I can't remember what Splash is like!!

I thought I posted last night but I guess I crashed before I did !!!:rotfl2:I see the 2011 packaages are out !!So I have been checking for next August!!I figured in FREE Qsp and upgraded and did the water parks added in airfare or what I hope I can get it for !!!:lmao: and it comes out to about $5700 for the 5 of us for 9 nights !!!:scared1::scared1:

:eek::scared1::eek::scared1::eek:

That is outrageous!! WOW!!!

Leisa, sorry I haven't posted much. As for your "ultra-geek getup" on the carousel, I think I looked like that on our trip 12 years ago - we are all so cool now! (well maybe except Maroo with her black socks :goodvibes) I think some of it is just chalked up to survival of the most comfortable in the parks. 15 yrs from now everyone will say, "can you believe I carried that Vera Bradley?":lmao:

HI Tammie!! NIce to have you back! Remember, you hold first poster status around here! :goodvibes

The sad thing is taht was only about 3 years ago!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yes, I like that!! "The survival of the most comfy".

What to do in the rain - if it's a lt. rain, we don't even do ponchos, we're just thankful that the rain is warm and that the lines are shorter.

In a heavy rain, we don the ponchos or take shelter and know that it should let up in a short while - then it will be even hotter.

In a torrent that is up to your knees in minutes at Epcot, we run for the monorail as best we can on our way to MK for our ADRs at Crystal Palace, then decide we are too wet to endure the A/C, so we take shelter at the bus stop, wait for 45 minutes for a bus, then get to our resort and dry off and order Pizza for room service and watch Star Wars on DVD!:cloud9:

My sentiments exactly! GREAT plans! I love your torrential rain plan predictions!! :lmao:

In light of recent news from your part of the world, I will be so glad when Sunday comes and you are safely on your plane. and prayers if I don't get back over here by then!

ME too, Tammie!! When the president dies here, I can't imagine the chaos that's going to happen here. He's getting on the older side now, and there is already bickering amongst his family who will get status of "friendly dictator".

Am I the only one that would think it would be fun to do a daily weather report for our days and then update it....so we can see how much it changes before we actually get there? is that a crazy idea?

NOPE!! Sounds very fun! But you're in charge! My time on here, has no officially become limited- from now until I start my TR.

All of these options sound good. How far into the trip you are may dictate what you do. If it's early in the trip, you may still be trying to do it all. A few days in, a hot shower, good nap, and just some down time in the room may sound glorious. :)

I'm all about exploring resorts, too.

I wouldn't worry about what you look like in Disney World. Go for comfort.

Well, modesty and comfort. ;)

Hi MeMom!! Welcome back!! You have a VERY good point! Such sage wisdom from someone who's been a few times!

I think one coudl spend a good long time, in even just ONE resort! Great way to eat up some rainy day time! :thumbsup2

YES! I"ve seen some really doozies out there of people who think that we all LOVE a peepshot of their ample fronts or round backsides. EW!!!

I would love this! Then I don't have to watch it myself. ::yes:: ;)

Embrace your geek-ed-ness.

Ok ladies! I see you're already posting manicas this morning, but I MUST get out for my run right now, or it simply won't happen to day!! Back in a while...

How many times can I post before you leave? ;)

Enjoy! Glad the heat is down enough that you can run. 20 minutes again? I'm on 5 minutes now and it was easier than I thought! :yay:

Well...I guess it will have to be a Tropical Update for now...because I can't find ANY forecasts for our dates yet...

I think they will start coming out 15 days out...so I will start doing updates on the forecast then. :)

Hopefully we won't have any hurricanes to talk about.

The best motivation for the troops is just and fair compensation for their hard work! Doesn’t everyone work with a better attitude when they know their efforts are going to be rewarded with something above and beyond what is required pay?? One common form of compensation was the taking of plunder. It probably would be frowned upon by Disney guests, if the CMs were digging through guest’s purses and wallets though. Oh! Wait, Disney does that every day. Of course, there was also the giving and taking of women and slaves, but that might also not go over so well amongst the clientele.

So, we are left, as those assaulting Disney to pay our fellow soldiers doing the front line fighting of making our stay a happy place, by tipping them along the way for good work. In preparation of our generous remunerations to these fair CMs, I’ve done a little preparation. Take a look at these fabulous DISigns folks on that Forum have created. I love each one!!! You really should check out the amazing work those very talented ladies and gentlemen have done over there!

Here are just a few of those I gathered for our meals. I didn’t included them, all; only enough to give you a good idea of what we have. My plans are to buy envelopes after we get back and glue them on. I didn’t want to wait until we got there to print on the envelopes, as it would just take that much more time away from focusing on Andrew and my family. They would tease me to no end anyway. (It would take more time to figure out a new printer, than to just use a bit of glue.)

Here are a few of the ones I found for Mousekeeping. I adore them!!

So, we are ready to roll with making sure our army is well paid- Well paid soldiers just do better work!

Lieassa I Love the Mousekeeping ones !!! I wish my printer worked !! I am definately putting a new one on my Christmas list!!!

Good morning!

But I'll admit it...I Googled! :lmao: I like him too. I instantly think of a beloved green frog.

Yes, same with me. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: Oh boy! You GOTTA tell the BIL story!!!

It's really no story, he just likes to splash everyone while were on it. Sometimes they use that annoying "keep your arms and legs in the boat at all times." spiel, but he still does it. How else is a guy supposed to entertain himself on that?!! :lmao::rotfl2:

The poncho on water rides is not dorkish at ALL! I haven't done a water ride since 2006, for the simple fact that I don't like to walk around wet. Donning a poncho is an excellent solution. THAT would be a fabulous picture!!! TOTALLY reminds me, Tate needs a poncho!!! :scared1:

I'm excited for it to come in the mail! Joe and I researched Disney apps tonight.

Me too, because that will mean I can call you!! :woohoo:

 That sounds like a very fun picture!

It was cute.

My problem with the rides that you get wet on is not the whole wet clothes thing, it's the hair thing. I have enough issues with my hair staying put not to need to get it drenched all over again. There are lots of photo ops, people! :rotfl2:

I never do a thing with my hair except throw it up, so that's not so big a deal with me, but to get "itchy rear end syndrome" really stinks!! YOu know that really annoying thing when you back side is wet from every one who stands on Pirates or IaSW with wet feet right where you have to sit? My daughter is standing here saying that doesn't happen to her, so maybe it's just me? :confused3 But until it's dry, it's TORTURE!!!

We could do splash together sometime?? If we have time after our nuggets. Nah, never mind, you'd have to do dessert wet. Maybe later in the week?

How many times can I post before you leave? ;)

Enjoy! Glad the heat is down enough that you can run. 20 minutes again? I'm on 5 minutes now and it was easier than I thought! :yay:

Looks like a lot! :lmao:

This morning I walked 4, jogged, 12, walked 4, jogged 12. So all total 9 laps around the track- equalling 3.6K. Only 4 laps left and it would have been a 5K. My plan for race day is to add one more set of walk/jog.

I remember the jump to 5 minutes, and you're right, it wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be. Keep up the great work!! See?!! only a few weeks ago, you thought you'd never see 5 minute intervals!! YAY for Brook!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Well...I guess it will have to be a Tropical Update for now...because I can't find ANY forecasts for our dates yet...

I think they will start coming out 15 days out...so I will start doing updates on the forecast then. :)

Hopefully we won't have any hurricanes to talk about.

OK, let's start 15 days out! :)

How was your run? :cool2:

It was great!! I really worried starting out this morning, because I hadn't had anything to eat. But it worked out fine! Hooray!!

I knew you'd be up at this late Hour !!!!!! Going back to catch up now !!!

You caught me!! But I haven't been able to catch up on anyone else's threads yet today!

How far ahead can you get a weather forecast!!!!:confused3

Looks like 15 days at most.

Lieassa I Love the Mousekeeping ones !!! I wish my printer worked !! I am definately putting a new one on my Christmas list!!!

I like how they turn out too!! Printers can be very fun-especially coupled up with a good clip art program!

See, I forgot I ever was "first poster!" It was on part 2 in January! Now your trip is almost here! :woohoo:

My torrential rain plan is what actually happened to us - I was just thinking, "what did we do?" :goodvibes It was crazy! We hid out in a little store at the edge of WS for awhile, then tried to make a run for it. I was happy I had SOCKS IN MY CROCS! that day, because I had the threat of a blister.

That government situation looks frightening. God Bless you for your dedication there!

Yep!! You were first a LONG time ago! Once upon a time. :goodvibes Now, I'm only 24 days away!! And there's TONS of good stuff in between now and then! :woohoo:

Where'd you go?? Just back to the room? How long did it last??

We just got an e-mail from our company that said one of those murdered in Afghn!!!! She was part of that Medical Team doing eye clinics there. We are so, so sad- as we had met her a few years ago in Thailand. :sad1: It is getting worse everywhere- not even the US is as safe as it once was. One day it will all be redeemed :)

Hey Mama! I know long time no hear from me....:guilty:

I finally got my act together and have my report to give on souvies for you....

They didn't have a lot, but this is a sample of what they will have. I believe they were $10.00, does Disney sell anything for a straight dollar amount? :confused3, there always seems to be some sort of change next the the dollar amount.

I did however see a lot of other things that you might like in Italy, infact this was probably the best place to shop aside of Japan in all of the WS, here's more pics of what I found....
