Cvs weekly 8/30-9/5

Attention Illinois residents!!! The new sales tax on candy and soda starts tomorrow (Tuesday). So buy your candy today!!

Starting tomorrow, candy and soda are no longer considered food and will be subjected to the FULL tax - up to 10.25% in Chicago. There are a few exceptions, such as any candy that contains flour. But it sounds like its up to each individual store to determine which is exempt and which isn't.

JAVA - ?

Big sigh here :(

Ok, I know I have computer issues constantly, but now I can't print the ACT coupon (among others) because the JAVA update hasn't taken. IOW, I keep trying to add the update but it won't stick. Any ideas why thats happening?

Glad you had a great trip!
According to my mom Elvis is alive and well - inside of me! Elvis "died" just before I was born. She came out of the delivery room to the news and told everyone that I would be a performer.........I think they must have had some amazing pain drugs back then:lmao:

Maybe he is! There was good drugs back then, then stopped about the time my 1st was born - I had IV morphine and stayed in the hospital 8 days. They kicked me out less than 48 hrs. after a c-section with my last and told me to take Motrin lol

It's a sad day in IL! We've had tax on candy for awhile, now it's a little over 7%, 10.25 would do me in.

My only suggestion would be to turn off your virus protection while you do the update and turn it back on after it finishes. I am having trouble with SmartSource coupons on a few computers here. I wish everyone would just do it like coupons.com does, those are secure and watermarked.

first, I have a question...
Is the ready fill quiz gone from the cvs website or am I just missing it? :confused3

I just got a dishwasher in my kitchen (finally!!!!) and need to get stocked up on dishwasher soap. So anyone have suggestions?

Right now CVS has Cascade on sale for $4.49 and there are .25 and .50 coupons in the P&G insert. Is that a fairly good deal or is WalMart or Kroger going to have a non-sale price that is better?

I know CVS when there are ECBs in the deal and coupons is cheaper but I know their non-sale items tend to be much higher priced than other stores.
Well actually, I don't think that it a good price at all. I only bought my cascade at cvs a month or so ago because it was on sale for 2.99 and I had 1. Q's and I put it with other stuff to use a $off$$ coupon and could use ecbs to pay for it after that, but that's just MHO.

Congratulations! You will love it, I was 30 before I ever had one and my first was really old and noisy but worked great, changed my life lol

I buy the Electrosol pellets at Sam's Club if I run out, but mostly I wait for the $2.25 coupons for Electrosol and then I buy lots of papers that week. That coupon comes out about 4 x's a year and people on other message boards will post where to get it nearly free using the coupon.

I am not fussy about brands, but I can't stand messing with powder or liquid or gel so I get pellets/tablets.
bolding is mine...
Well you are very lucky I have a newer one w/ a stainless steel tub made by whirlpool, you can only use powder in it and Cascade. I think they're in Kahoots w/ one another. :lmao: Seriously, the others will NOT dissolve. Hubby fixes appliances full time and told me that many of the new ones are being designed that way. The gel just drips down and coagulates on the bottom.

Lol, LanaJae said exactly what I was going to. I don't know of a current deal for them, but I use the Electrasol tablets, too. I don't like the mess of liquid or powder and the packets that have are in thin plastic like the Cascade ones don't seem to dissolve in my dishwasher (I don't think our water gets hot enough). I love the Electrasol tabs and best of all they offer $2.50 coupons often. they are also a ECB deal pretty often at CVS. Whenever I get those coupons I stock up. I currently have 11 boxes in my stockpile! :rotfl:

I had to add, when I was pregnant with my first child I asked for a dishwasher for my birthday. It is still the best gift I ever received! I'd take it over jewelry anyday -- or at least until we are done with sippy cups. Enjoy!
bolding is mine...
Always run hot water thru your tap right before turning on the dishwasher. It will help dissolve the detergent better and allows the water to reach its max temp. If the machine has to start w/ cold water, it isn't nearly as energy effecient or effective at cleaning.

Thanks LanaJae, I'll give it a try. :goodvibes

I did get a couple at CVS recently but I sent one with my son when we moved him for college and only had one for myself. Hopefully, it goes on sale again soon!

It was still there this afternoon as I did it on my work computer. The square it's in cycles thru 4 pages I thinkWell actually, I don't think that it a good price at all. I knew once we bought it I'd have missed the good sales!! At least I started out with 1 bottle and one box.

My instructions state that too!

Some stores have a smaller candle by Glade(I think). Anyway there was recently a coupon in the Sunday inserts to get this candle free. It's not a CVS "deal" it can be used anywhere. But for those trying to use a 5/25 the free candle is a great filler, especially if they are out of stock on an item you had planned to purchase. My store doesn't have it.

If something looks strange in my post, it's because I'm on our spare laptop and it jumps around when you type sometimes. :confused3

They are really small....about the size of a votive in a little glass container.

Welcome back Lana Jae! You were definitely missed here! It was very quiet without you!! :rotfl:

I did the quiz this afternoon and it was there. It is on page one of the scrolling box. I just click on the little #1 in the lower right corner of the box to get it.

stitchlovestink - since you seem to be very knowledgable in the dishwasher dept - Can you tell me why my dishwasher leaves crumbs on otherwise perfectly clean dishes? Especially the top rack. I have tried that dishwasher magic stuff and also taking out the thing at the bottom and scrubbing it. It seems like we just have really hard water...
Sorry totally OT

I heard of a way to reduce the tax a little bit.
My apologies if this was posted and I missed it earlier.

Use your coupons in this order:
$x/$xx
CRT's
Manufacturers Coupons that may need an override or price entered manually
ECB's
Manufacturer Coupons that will not beep

The logic is if you figure out ahead of time how many ECB's you will use you should have a subtotal that is slightly less than the total value of the Manufacturers coupons you have left.
Today I did a transaction that was $23.49 total before tax.
I used 4/20, $1 CRT, $16 ECB's (might have been a couple cents lower), then a $3 Q. My subtotal was .52 and my tax was .39 The tax should have been about $1.39 on $18.49

I've read how people give ECB's in payment before mfg q's. I've always done it the other way around, but if there's a chance it could lower the tax, I'll give it a whirl next time. It sounds like I'll need to keep all my numbers in mind before I check out so this works out right and that could be a problem! :lmao:

Has anyone tried the Bounce Bar? I'm just wondering if its possible to get the plastic holder thing off your dryer if you don't want to use it any more?? I'm hesitant to put anything permanent inside my Whirlpool Duet dryer.

Although, I already did purchase the bar! :lmao: I used the overage from the Glade candle to get it.

Maggie

Someone on the cvs boards at hcw said if you wash a lot of strappy items or dry your bras, those straps can grab ahold of it or get stuck under it and pull the holder or the bar out and then get sticky stuff on your clothes. I don't dry my bras but I'm still hesitant to try it.

LanaJae, I love the cvs picture. :rotfl: I've heard a few stores don't participate in the ecb program. I would cry if I was on vacation for a good week and the store didn't give them! It's sad isn't it? I always go to cvs when I visit my mil.

If you have the kelloog's fuel for school booklets and do the buy 5 get $1 ecb cookie deal, there is a $2 off milk in there wyb 2 of the cookies. We don't have the ecb for milk deal in my paper but it's $2.79 so .79 for a gallon of milk is fine by me. I want the cookies for disney snacks anyway.

Am I crazy to pass on the toothpastes? It just seems like too much OOP when I have tons for free. I can't find the aquafresh coupon but I did get the sensodyne one. So I would still be paying $1 after ecbs for both of them. Hmm.

It looks like such a good week but yet I can't find anything I want. I'm getting the glade candle, then the milk and cookie deal but that's it I think.

The toothpaste prices are OUTRAGEOUS - come on!! Over $7 for a tube of toothpaste!!

However, I got the toothpaste for free doing this:
Aquafresh $4.99
Sensodyne $4.99
-$1 Aquafresh IP coupon
-$1 Sensodyne IP coupon
-$2 oral care coupon from ready-fill book
-$3 ECB for Aquafresh
-$3 ECB for Sensodyne

You just need to have $6 in ECB originally to roll. You may need a little oral care filler since technically you aren't at $10 in oral care products. I threw in a trial size mouthwash since I am going on a trip soon. But I also saw .74 CVS toothbrushes that could be used. Or you could do the ACT mouthwash ECB deal (there is a $1 IP coupon for that too.)

Yes, it is gone, but it has a secret hiding place still: http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/images/pr...l/index.html?WT.mc_id=EM_DYN_081309_ReadyFill

Keep doing the survey as it will probably be gone for good soon.

I might be willing to give up the pellet thingies if I could get a stainless steel!

My husband supposedly "researched" our kitchen appliances and I hate them all. He only wanted Maytag and only a certain color and I later found out color was his only criteria. We had a fire in our refrigerator, Maytag blamed us and 2 years later it was on national recall for fire. Our dishwasher electrical panel has gone out twice and my mom had a fire in our oven from the element disintegrating due to self-cleaning while we were on vacation last Feb. Both the range and the refrigerator are the worst design ever made. It all stems from my husband wanting a side-by-side, even though he's never once put away groceries in it.

Welcome back Lana Jae! You were definitely missed here! It was very quiet without you!! :rotfl:

I've been noisy since I was born lol - I really missed you too :)

I have had this work a few times, but I am having better luck getting an extra buck adjusted lower at the end now. I've had mfgs. rejected by giving them last even when I've done all the math. It might vary state-by-state with this trick.

I am using one now. I think I could get it out and then might have to use some goo-gone to remove the glue residue if there is any.

I try not to dry my bras, but I often forget, so I will be extra careful now.

I thought that picture was cool too - thanks, I have another one just like it of Walgreeens, but I didn't go in there.

You are not crazy to pass up the toothpaste, no one is crazy to pass up toothpaste, they are only crazy if they ever really buy toothpaste. I did get one because I am sucker for a new design that doesn't involve squeezing a tube.

I wish I had thouht to throw in a filler. The cashier scanned teh coupon and it went through, then she looked at it closer and said it was a no go. I would have gone back to get something else but there was a line so I just went with it. I have sensitive teeth and there are rarely good deals on toothpaste for sensitive teeth, so it was worth it to me.

I lost .13 on an ECB yesterday using your method but I think I saved money on tax. :confused3 I wish I knew for sure but numbers seem to make my brain turn to mush and if I'm at CVS doing the math, it's even mushier!! :dance3:

:lmao: You know what that says about me because I paid for toothpaste for years before I learned about CVS!!!! Just think of the money I wasted buying TP!

I did the toothpaste but only because I had the coupons to make it work out for free. I try to get every transaction up to the $25 to use the $5/$25 coupon and then I try to break even with ECB's or come out ahead for the total transaction. That is why I did the bounce bars too!
