CVS employee cut up my card, what to do with the EBC?

First of all, I have 3 CVS cards on my key ring! One is mine, one is my adult 39 year old son's who lives at the same address), and my DD's who lives in a different town! My son practically never shops - I'm home all day, so he gives me $ to pick up prescriptions, OTC, etc, and I use his card if I am shopping for him. My DD h-a-t-e-s those key cards, (says they add too much bulk to her keys), and since we normally shop together, I keep her card on my ring. I would be fuming mad ifa store employee took my keys, and I would be livid if they walked away with them, and brought it back with the cards cut! Oh, trust me, there would be heck to pay!!!
BTW....did they cut the cards and leave a portion on your ring, or did they remove them completely? If they cut and left, I'd be photographing it, and sending those portions of pieces left to corporate HQ with a very strong letter! They had NO right to take your keys away from where you were!

I would call corporate. Each adult in the household is allowed a card. You just can't use multiple cards on deals that say "limit 1 ECB per household".On top of that I would have a real problem with anyone taking it upon themselves to cut up something that belonged to me, especially since you were not breaking their policy.

Forgive me, I am new to this, so am using all this info as a learning experience.
This is for anyone:
Isn't CVS kind of being contradictory. If each adult is allowed a card (either their own or on the same account) how does CVS track the "1 per household" on ECB items. If both DH and I have cards (either same or different accounts) and I mention we need X from CVS and I buy it on my way home from work and DH also gets the item thinking I asked him to get it form a different store (not trying to scam)...what happens? If we are on the same account would the first purchase come up? If each card is on a spearate account how would they track the 1/household?

If you don't want the cashiers touching your keys, DON'T use the keyring card. Use the regular sized card.

I have my CVS card on my keyring and the cashiers NEVER touch my keys. I hold my card up (while still on the ring) and they point the little scanner thing at the card. No need to touch my stuff.

I find it much simpler to have it on the keyring rather than in my wallet with the 5000 other cards I have in there (American Airlines reward card, National rent a car card, library card, insurance card, AAA card, Marriott Rewards card, etc.) I keep all my grocery and drug store cards on my keyring.

Thank you for listening to me venting and thank you for the support.

I did call corporate as suggested and filed a complaint. The lady who answered the phone was very helpful and told me that she will have the district manager to call me back. She also helped me to consolidate all my CVS cards together through the ExtraCare rep. The funny thing was, not until they started to help consolidate our account, I found out that DH had another card under his name. The only time that card was used was April last year when he apply for the card.

They can't track that. The only thing it does is prevent someone from standing there with multiple cards doing the transactions back to back. (Not refering to the OP, though  ) Then the cashier can point to one per household and use that as a reason to not allow a transaction.

Although, I have read posts from a guy on Hotcoupon world who has G*d knows how many cards and he buys hundreds of the deals back to back and donates them to charity. The stores let him do that because he says they are for different charity households. Personally, I'm not for this type of behavior, but I don't think its wrong for the situation you mentioned above.

Ok thanks...when I get to the US and start the whole budget/coupon life I want to know the rules before I start playing. :)

I also read about the guy. Must be according to which CVS as to what they see as acceptable.:confused3

Actually, I believe CVSs rule is one per adult in the household.

Some offers state one per household, but not all.

I would call corporate.

Maggie
Sorry. I'd read on I♥CVS.com earlier this year that the rule was 1 card per household and that stores were beginning to enforce it more strictly. Supposedly, the rule is printed on the paperwork that goes with your application for the card, but I got mine so long ago that the paperwork has probably been recycled a number of times, so I wouldn't even be able to go back to look at it to see if this is so.

I went to my local CVS today to buy some nature valley bars. During checkout, I gave the cashier my key card to scan. I have 3 cards on the key ring, one is mine, another belongs to my DH, and one is my mom's. She saw that and said I was only allowed one card and asked me which one I want to use. I told her which one I would like to use and she took my key & cards, went to her manager, they cut up two other cards.

I was pretty upset. Now, what do I do with the ECBs that's on the cards that were destroyed? I don't think I can find the duplicate card for them.

Just to vent, the employees from this CVS had been always very hostile to me, because I pay so little out of pocket with ECB. However, instead of avoiding this CVS in the future, my plan is to do all my "free" purchase there and make sure my out of pocket is as close to 0 as possible.

Go to the CVS website and you can either get a duplicate card to replace the ones you had on the ring and print your ECBs.

Sorry, I dont know what a tag fairy is! lol

To me its a pretty clear cut case of "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck......"

I think CVS will prob be happy with their employee for catching someone trying to work the system. If you go back to the beggining of the thread, she wasnt complaining about the fact the keys were swiped from her hand (which does seem rather unreasonable to me) but in fact, she was upset about HOW TO GET HER ECB bucks back.

Sorry, you got caught!

Nothing against CVS' ers, but if your not playing by the rules, you run the risk of getting caught.
Wow!!! Assume much? She didn't say she wasn't "playing by the rules" so quit assuming she did something wrong. NO ONE has the right to tell me what I can have on MY keychain!!

I would let it go. In the grand scheme of life, it's not that big of a deal. You had three cards on your keyring when the policy is one per person. If you don't want the cashiers touching your keys, DON'T use the keyring card. Use the regular sized card.

PS- I can't think of one legit reason besides trying to double/triple up on offers to have more than one card on your keyring. Otherwise, just scan one card for everyone, whether you are picking up mom's stuff or your dh's stuff or whatever. The OP said how do I get MY ECBs back, not how do I get OUR ECBs back.

I have 3 cards in my possesion........legally! I have my own, I have DHs and I have DS18s. When CVS opened here DH gotg his card first. I was in the store later and they asked if I had my own card, I didn't and told them DH had one. They insisted I needed to have my own card. When DS18 stopped in last year or whenever it was they asked for his card, he didn't have one but told them I had one at home (they could have asked for our phone number but didn't) again they insisted he needed his own card. So yes I have 3 cards but deals like the free Charmin deal I only did it once. So if they don't want my family to have 3 cards THEY shouldn't have insisted we each get our own cards!!

Wanted to add: If they were afraid you were using other ppl's cards to use the extra bucks they can easily see the name on the Extra Care bucks. If it were only one per household only one person could do the shopping, since they can see the MR so in so or Mrs So in so.

exactly- they can and will stop you from using other people's. Mom and I had gone shopping together. Receipts or bags must have gotten mixed up at some point when we just dumped everything in the trunk together, or she bought stuff for the kids and then sent one of her bags home with me. Anyhow...... put the extra bucks in my wallet, didn't pay attention to the name and went to use them. I was refused because my card said my name and the bucks were linked to mom's name.

When I forget my card I just give them my phone number. They type that in the register and it prints the coupon along with my receipt. My sister and DFi use my phone number to redeem the savings and than give me the receipts so I can use them if I need to. I know that the coupons must match the phone number that it's registered to. For example, my mom can not use my coupons if she uses her card as her phone number is different from mine.

I had always thought the policy was one extracare account per household BUT I have only been doing the CVS ECB's since Spring of 2008.

So I went on their website to see if they had the exact policy written (i.e. every adult in the household can have their own extracare account OR one extracare account per household) and couldn't find any information regarding that specific policy. I notice the customer service number down at the bottom and called it and posed that question to the rep "Can the adults living under the same household have their own extracare account?". She informed me the policy is one extracare account per household.

I then asked if there was somewhere on the website where this exact policy is written because I could not find it - she looked for it, couldn't find it right away and asked if she could put me on hold. She came back and stated that the policy is on the physical applications for extracare card/account AND on the website when you sign up for a card.

I went ahead and started to sign up for a card (NOTE - I did not get another one) and went so far as the fill out your information section and I cancelled out. BUT I didn't see anywhere on that portion the policy so IF it is on the website its further down the chain then where I got.

As a disclaimer - I am in now way shape or form stating that the policy IS what the rep gave me as I do not have written confirmation.

The 1 ECB limit per household is fairly new. I have had my extracare card for years, as has my dh. There was a time when there was no per household limit on ECB's, only the limit stated per item. I can only assume that they also changed their policy to 1 extracare card per household at the same time. Dh and I signed up together in CVS, they knew we were living in the same house. If they had that policy in place back then, it certainly wasn't enforced.
OP I don't know how long you have had your cards, but at the time it could have very well been legitimate to have every adult in the house get their own card.

That is what I am thinking. If it did change probably wasn't widely publicized to those with existing accounts.

Not picking on you but I just had a thought. Hypothetically, say there is a gay couple living together in the same household. Say SusieQ has "the household" card in her name, what is JaneDoe supposed to do? :confused3 If it's only 1 per household, her name is obviously not SusieQ what is she supposed to do? Shop at Walgreens? :confused3

I can see it now, pretty soon we will need to show an ID each/every time we use our CVS card. Especially if we are carrying the whole families along w/ Grandma's, Papa's, the gardners, neighbors, bus drivers etc. ;)

The ECBs are linked to the card not specifically the name. Its not like they check your ID when redeeming bucks.

JaneDoe gets a household card in her name. She uses her CVS card to earn points/ECBs whatever. SuzyQ has her own card for that SAME household that is in JaneDoe's name. She goes to redeem ECBs that they have both earned and because those are tied to the card she should have no problem.

And I am sure there is a way to put all family member's names on there plus there are several cards tied to the same account to give to those in the household.

Its been a while...I have had my CVS card for YEARS and years.

So like um does this mean you can only get 6 free tubes of hemroid cream instead of 18 now?

First to the op:hug: sorry you were treated like that. I am glad you cleared it up with CVS.
I can understand some have many...many cards and take advantage:sad2: Its awful. But, there will ALWAYS be those...everyone has to life with the choices they make..
:sad2:
It seems odd. 3 just does not seem like alot of cards. I mean there could be a very good explanation..Parent, older (driving age kids) who may use the same keys...I think maybe they had other ideas about you:confused: Maybe they thought you were doing something else..like clearing out all the free deals. I am not saying you did just saying maybe that is what they were thinking but to take you belongings....:sad2: that was wrong.
