jim hill just reported:
Monday Mouse Watch : Disney puts the Scrooge to guests attending this year's "Very Merry Christmas Parade"
Say goodbye to that complimentary photograph that used to be included as part of your admission price to this after-hours holiday event at the Magic Kingdom. Jim Hill talks about how -- in spite of what the Mouse's PR department has been saying lately -- cost cutting continues at Walt Disney World

Have been noticing this trend for the past few years. I used to go every year. I'm not going this year. Just isn't worth the extra $$$$ any more.

Got to agree with this. After 15+ years of doing MVMCP, we've decided that last year was the last one for us. The thing has just gone continuously down-hill in terms of decorations and special touches. The final straw for us was last year when you had to pay for your picture. Not a big thing, just the final straw. Sad.

busiest friggin time of the year, uncomfortably so. Why not just raise the admission rates $10 during this time and quell the herd a bit.

No complementary picture, but they did give out special photopasses that had a discount code to order the pic's at 50% off. As an added bonus, the discount code worked for all photopass orders from that trip, not just the ones on that particular card.
Guess too many people figured that out and now those are gone too.
Too bad.

That's what they did this past year at MVMCP. It wasn't free last year, so what's this guy talking about?

Seems like just a case of someone not reading or not presenting the article clearly....here is what Jim Hill wrote.

Which is all well & good. Except that -- starting in 2004, as a cost-saving measure -- the Walt Disney Company discontinued the free "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party" commemorative button. And starting last year, Disney also did away with the complimentary photograph.

I didn't get what Jim Hill's point was, and I read the article. The article implies that cost cutting is still taking place TODAY - but it only mentions what was done in the past. It mentions nothing about what is or isn't being cut - only that the managers have been given information regarding what was cut last year and offering some level of compensation to those that ask about it.

Seems like he needed to write an article to bash something, and didn't have enough info for this years MVMCP yet, so had to dig.

I often think our local Fox affiliate's slogan should be "Yesterday's News, Today!"...maybe they can share it with JH.

I just read the article and I got the same exact impression. The article and information was vanilla and old and was definitely no where near his sensational headline "Disney Puts the Scrooge to Guests attending Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party".

Poor Job from Jim Hill.

Maybe(and this is a big maybe) the point is that Disney is still not changing. Maybe the point is that Disney dispite everybodys hopes and dreams that after Eisner, buying Pixar and getting back some of the creative people that Disney still is in decline. Mickey Head butter is not coming back, Chicken Finger Meals are still getting shorted, cokes are still 3 bucks, DCA is still going to rot in the Sun, AK will always be half built, you're still getting rides picked out of a catalog by people who could care less for the parks, you're still getting Underdog movies, bad TV shows and you're not getting your "free" picture back at MVMCP despite all of the complaints...what you are getting is better excues this year and more prepared CM's who might give you a cupon for a free one if you pitch a fit. Maybe??

Thanks for the free lecture...but not so much there pal. Some people just like listening to themselves talk.

Wow. Given your opinion, why do you post on a Disney World fan site? I imagine with your level of dissatisfaction, I would think you don't even go to WDW any longer? I certainly wouldn't.

To make it more simple for you...I'll use your own sig...

First they came for the Mickey Head Butter, and I didn’t speak up, because I didn't eat the butter
.
Then they came for the Chicken Fingers, and I didn’t speak up, because I didn't eat the Chicken Fingers
.
Then they came for EPCOT, and I didn’t speak up, because I didn't like EPCOT.

Then they sold the whole darn company down the river, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for the real Disney.

Make sense yet??

As a reminder my friend, here's a link to the DIS board guidelines: http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

Mickey Head butter is not coming back: I don't think the average WDW guest cares.

Chicken Finger Meals are still getting shorted: don't buy it

Cokes are still 3 bucks: 2.00 20 oz. bottle

DCA is still going to rot in the Sun: looks fresh to me

AK will always be half built: based on what . . . you could say that about any WDW park

You're still getting rides picked out of a catalog by people who could care less for the parks: you know them personally. I will agree thet Dino-rama is an eye sore.
you're still getting Underdog movies, bad TV shows and you're not getting your "free" picture back at MVMCP despite all of the complaints:It was a crappy quality pic any.

The free pictures were nice, however,

they weren't great. It was really a gimmick to get you to buy more pictures. The free picture was always sent with a order form to get more pictures.

Now, they are better quality pictures. Last year you got a coupon for 50% off. Gosh, some of those photo lines were really long too. It was just the family and not with characters.

The buttons were nice, and I saved them too. Really it wasn't much either.

Moving the parade from 2 twice to 1 time would be a major cut. Getting rid of the candy would be a major cut.

Hi all -

What I'm about to say may not please everyone....but I suppose it will simply fall into the category of personal opinion. If I offend anyone, my apologies.

You cannot find anyone more dedicated to the "Spirit of Pixie Dust" than I am. I met my brand new husband standing in line at Big Thunder Mountain and we are both.....mouseaholics. Both of us have a LONG history with WDW with many years of wonderful memories. We plan to begin many MORE years of wonderful memories together now.

Having said that, I must express my concern and disappointment at the gradual - but continual decline in the physical condition of WDW and Resort Hotels.

I first noticed the decline a few years ago with the bathrooms in the parks after Disney switched to contract employees - cost savings. Remember those days years ago when you could go into a park bathroom after the fireworks and they were clean? With growing frequency I choose to not....inhale or simply wait until I am back at the hotel. By the end of a long day many park bathrooms are simply too filthy.

On our last trip to the Beach Club we found.....balcony furniture broken, lukewarm water, lobby bathroom odor you noticed before you even entered the bathroom, mousekeepers still cleaning rooms at 6 pm at night, light fixtures along the side walkway to IG were not fastened shut (all the covers were loose and askew), trash in the stairwell was not cleaned during our 8-day trip (we picked up the big stuff but the stairwell was never swept - and it was dirty!), decrease in Holiday decorations not only at resorts but also in the parks, gradual decrease in AP perks and event perks (ie: Halloween and Christmas Party perks), paint worn off of high-traffic doorways - you know, where you naturally grab the door (even on GRAND FLORIDIAN doorways!)

It was the little things....but combined simply were unacceptable for a hotel that charges $315 during VALUE season.

This year we will try the Boardwalk instead even though I have been a faithful Beach Club girl for many years.

My husband works for ABC and after slash & burning of two more bureau's last week, we are all too aware of the devistating cost cutbacks Disney has imposed on it's various cost centers. The Resort and Park managers are doing their best with slashed budgets but you can see the difference.

We are all managing our budgets with more attention.....fuel costs, energy costs at home, college tuition - even that gallon of milk costs more now. I appreciate that Disney must keep their costs in line. It's just disappointing to see the parks and resorts loose some of their "twinkle". They are getting a little "shabby around the edges".

Ok, my 2 cents.

Thanks for the listening.
