Has anyone ever ordered anything from a US site and had to pay customs charges when their parcel arrived? How much were they? And, how do you pay these charges?

I ordered some luggage form Disneyshopping.com and had to pay £37 in customs charges when it was delivered (on top of the extortionate delivery costs) :scared1:

I paid them in cash but I don't know whether they would have let me pay by card or not :confused3

I was unlucky and got charged duty on 2 swimsuits. Was £57 and I had to pay it over the phone to a courier company so that they could release the delivery. Was a real pain as most of the time I have managed to get away with it.

Good luck
Tina

Hi

I did a couple of years ago.

Ordered some stuff from "The Disney Store", thought I was getting a bargin as they had a sale on, until the customs bill arrived:scared1::scared1:

Would think twice about doing again unless it was something we REALLY wanted and couldnt get over here

Thanks for the replies:thumbsup2
You've helped me decide that the bargains I'd spotted were probably not going to be bargains in the end, those were some scary customs charges:eek:
I just have to be really patient and wait til I get over there in June:rotfl2:

It was just a few things that were a good price that I wanted to put in with gifts for a lot of birthdays that I have before we go but I'll just need to make a list and bring back lots more stuff to last out until we return:banana:

I had a little look earlier and apparently the customs charge is based on not only the cost of the goods, but also the delivery charge :thumbsup2

I've ordered, and paid custom charges..........It's a while ago but seem to think it might have been around 25%.........I was still happy with what I bought (uGgs and sale stuff from Disney Store) because
a) I knew that they still worked out cheaper than buying from the UK or b) I simply couldn't buy them here........:goodvibes

And if you're lucky enough to get it delivered by Parcel Force or the Post Office they will charge you an extra £8 just for the pleasure of clearing the item through them.

I order quite a lot of stuff from the US and always factor customs charges in when I'm working out whether it's worth ordering the items or not. My DH has just bought me a special pin bag from the US for my birthday and he ended up paying an extra £18 but as it wasn't available at the parks he had no choice but to order it this way.

dont got there!!!!!!!!! ive bought numerous nba and nfl jerseys from ebay and never paid duty. i bought an orlando magic vest for $25 including post. because i got it so cheap, the seller stitched me by putting the value at $80 on the envelope. i got charged £16 duty and every time i tried to complain, i didnt get an answer. im still mad, 6 weeks later

I've had stuff from the US delivered via Parcel Force and I've never been charged. :confused3

What annoys me is how inconsistent the whole thing is- if there was a set amount that we knew we would be charged, we'd be able to factor that into our shopping habits. However, no-one knows if they will "get away with it" or not, until it's too late! :sad2:

You stand a better chance of not getting charged if its sent via Parcel Force or the Post Office as they just choose random parcels when they get to London. Any other courier you will 99.9% get charged a whopping amount as its likely them that have bought them over so know to charge

Ah, ok. Thanks for clarifying. :thumbsup2

It's not really worth it then, for the most part. Oh well, I guess we'll all just have to head over to the US more frequently for our discounted goods!

I have ordered so much stuff from the USA i'm suprised i haven't had a customs charge as of yet, touch wood.

I'll probably get one now :lmao:

I have never got charged with UPS when I ordered from Disneystore.com .

Your luck, not sure when you ordered but they can bill you later on. My dad was caught out like this 3 months after he purchased the goods:headache:

DBF has an account so they would of just added it to that if we were charged so I won't be paying it anyway;)
