I'm thinking of joining Curves in the coming weeks (after my trip to St. Louis next week).

It looks like a good program but I'm curious to know how other people feel it works. Do you lose weight or just inches? Does it really only take 30 minutes? If you have any thoughts I would love to hear them.

thanks,
tara

Curves is great, especially for people who need motivation for exercising. If you already workout it might not be enough for you. The manager of our Curves had lost 100lbs & kept it off for several years. She looked fabulous. The owners were wonderful. I think the year I attended they added two new machines. They also had challenges & would use different motivational tools. Every Wednesday they brought in hula hoops. The people were friendly & I loved going. There was always lots of conversation & laughing. That said, the workout itself is the same so unless you do additional stuff at home you aren't challenging yourself after a few months. Its nice because it is air conditioned & you do get in a full body workout.

I've been doing Curves since mid-Jan. and I've noticed a big difference in the way I look. I've built a lot of muscle and (I think) built up my metabolism. Yes, you can do it in 30 minutes- it's a circuit and you stay 30 seconds at each station, alternating weight machines and recovery stations. You never get too bored, and it's pretty social so you get to know lots of the people. Some chose to do 40 minutes if they're trying to lose weight.

My Curves offers weightloss classes, which I haven't done only because the times don't fit with my schedule. But if your goal is to lose weight, you'd want to pair Curves with an eating plan.

Curves is a nice program, especially for a reforming couch potato! It's not intimidating or overly difficult, just a good comprehensive workout in a neat package. It actually only takes 26 minutes to get through 2 rounds of the circuit, but if you add a couple of minutes to change your shoes (we're asked to have Curves-only shoes to help keep the machines clean) and stretch, it really is just 30 minutes.

The atmosphere is usually pretty fun, but that has more to do with the staff than the program, so look for a center with a staff you like.

Just an FYI (and this is not meant to offend anyone or cause a debate) but the founders of Curves are evangelical Christians and that mindset does sometimes filter down into the program. Some centers play at least some Christian music while you exercise, while others don't, and there are often advertisements for Christian products or events. I just wanted you to be able to take that into consideration while you decide.

Good luck!

I love my Curves! Yes you can do it in 30 minutes and the time goes fast. Usually because I'm talking to everyone on the circuit. I've noticed increased muscle in my legs (the place I tone up first) and in my shoulder area. I haven't lost weight as far as pounds goes but I have lost inches.

Thank you for all the input!!

I don't mind if it is the same all the time, since I don't have a plan now anyway (except lifting fork to mouth :teeth: ). The music won't bother me for 30 or 45 minutes.

Okay, I think maybe i will try it. My school system is reimbursing us $100 per six months if we work out at specified places at least 36 times in the six month period. So I will get back some of the money I pay.

Thank you for all the responses. I love having the DIS to come to with questions!!

thanks!
