A new Curves is opening right down the street from my house. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it's all about and if you like the program there. How often do you go? Is it expensive? Just curious...Thanks!

I've been going to Curves for almost two months, and I really enjoy it!!
I'd started Atkins in late July, and should have joined right away, but I didn't.
It's a basic exercise/cardiovascular program. The circuit is roughly 30 minutes, with cool-down stretching positions to follow. The salons are kind of bare-bones (but I am too!) with changing rooms, a ladies room, water fountain, and a variety of machines to work. Each 'station' is a 30 second routine, all to music with a beat and a timed voice telling you when to move on to the next station. I go in after work, and it sure gets my blood pumping!!!

Initiation fee varies - if you go in for the look around the facility they'll offer 50% off of the fee. If you wish to pay month to month, they accept MC & VISA (no AMEX:( ). Here the monthly fee is $39. If you do check draft (which I did after the first month), the monthly fee is $29. Their guideline is 3 times a week, but I go every day that they're open.

I never measured myself before I started to see if I was losing inches.... and this is something that they do once a month. They weigh and measure once a month...... that way you don't get frustrated.

I hope that this information helps............

I went to Curves for a year (I quit when my work schedule made it very difficult to fit in my schedule). I really enjoyed it, as much for the social atmosphere as the exercise.

Thumbs up to CURVES........Been a member since May and I am still faithful. Fourtunatly I dont work so I do get to go although, many of my working friends do not like there hours. Definitely check out their hours. Mine closes at 1-3 in the afternoon so the people who o during luch are out of luck. Anyway you get weighed and measured once a month and depending on how many machines will determine your workout time. For instance when I began we went around the curciut 3 times which took a half hour. Now they have added more machines so we go around twice and its 20 minutes. You move every 30 seconds....machine then running board, retunr to a machine then running board and so on. My whole neoghborhood goes and I have met so many nice and supportive woman there. The atmosphere is great. My suggestion is go try it out see how you like it.

Also - when a new Curves opens, they usually run a special price on the "initiation" fee. A good deal is about $59 - $79; plus the monthly fee.
The Curves I go to is now open all day from 7:30 - 7:30 (M- TH) they close at 6:30PM on Fridays and are open on Sat AM.

I joined Curves last week and I love it! My initial fee was $79.00 and there was a special going on getting the first month for free. (that's why I went) after that my fee is $29.00 per month, debited on my credit card (which is my bank card and I get reward points when I use it).

I love the fact that it only takes 1/2 of my time, it is very close to home and I could walk there if I had to. The times they are open don't always fit my work schedule, but I can usually get in there 3 times a week. You never have to wait to use the eqiupment, there is constant movement...not like other clubs I've been to where you had to wait to use the "good" machines or classes were so crowded you didn't have enough floor space.

This place gives you a real good workout in a short amount of time.

No Curves around here, but I am doing Contours Express which is similar and LOVING it (see my post on Hurts So Good).

Love it ... Love it ... Love it !!! I've been going for 7 months. My goal is to go 3x a week, and most weeks I get there 4x. I love the fact that it's all women, the machines aren't difficult, and you work as hard as you want to. If you're looking to really build lots of muscle, not the place for you. Most women are 35+, and most are just like me ... overweight and trying to do something about it. Mine was a new club, and while the person from head office tried the "hard-sell" approach of "sign up today, and we'll offer you this discount on the initiation", I point-blank told her I wanted to try it out first before making that type of commitment. She then offered me a free week, and a guarantee that I'd still get the initiation fee discount. I was sold on it right away. The number of inches lost to me is more impressive than the number of pounds gone. I love the monthly measuring !

Thanks for all the info.! I have an appointment tommorow night to try it out. Mary Liz: I am going to try your approach beacuse I don't want to commit right away on the first day...thanks for that tip! I'll let you all know how it goes!
