Does anyone belong to a Curves gym? What are your reviews?

I have gained some weight in the last few months and I really need to start a workout routine. I used to go to a regular gym with equipment and classes but my schedule is so crazy right now that I really need something structured.

So any good reviews? Bad?

I know people how use it and enjoy it--but it's effectiveness is only as good as your effort. You will plateau and stay their if you don't adjust the inensity of your workout.

It's good for a start. I ended up stopping the membership myself and moving on to other things.

I know folks who've been loyal for ages, though. It is what you make of it. I did enjoy at my particular location that the trainers constantly walked the floor to help guide you on various equipment if you needed that guidance.

My neighbor started her weight loss program by joining Weight Watchers and Curves. One hundred and four pounds later, she says that Curves what exactly what she needed to ease into exercising regularly.

That' exactly what I need, a program to ease me back into the routine. I hope that it is not a year membership though, I think six months would be good for me for now because I know it is one of the more expensive gyms...I think maybe $40 or $50 a month (the other gyms around us are $15 to $25 a month).

In my experiance, I dislike curves. ONLY because of my personal experiance with the two local ones we have here. They PUSH all their crap on people who go to them here- their 'vitamins' and some other stuff. I am not a believer in Joining and (paying large amounts of money for) a place that 'hassles' you with their products that they sell. It's very inappropriate in my opinion.

AND, it's only resistance training. You cannot change the set up of the machiene as you get more and more in shape. There are methods that make it more of an effective work out, but most people don't do them.

#1 eat right. No matter WHERE a person excersizes, they still need to eat a balanced diet and LESS CALORIES. If you eat the same as you are doing now- and excersize the only thing you won't do is gain weight. Loosing weight means change.

#2 Curves says that you only need to go 3 days a week...to me, that's a bunch of bull. 3 days a week can help you maintain what you look like now. SURE, it works for some- but really, honestly...working out should be about how much weight you WANT TO LOOSE...excersizing (stricktly excersizing) 3 days a week doesn't really do a ton as far as loosing weight. The trick for LOOSING WEIGHT is to burn more calories than you consume. If you're only working out 3 days a week, how can you honestly do that?

I am more of a 'traditional' work out person. I get on a treadmill and walk fast or even run some days no matter how much I hate doing it, because it's healthy for my body. I also do light weights and for me that works.

I think, only because of MY EXPERIANCE, that MOST curves are a sham. There are people who I see on a weekly basis that are mad that they joined. But, they got roped in to do a 'pay for 6 months, each month is cheaper' type of a deal...so they use it, because it's already paid for. Many people who go to curves loose weight. Great. It doesn't work for ME.

I loved Curves, you definitely get out of it what you put into it. There were some women leaving that did not even break a sweat.

My local Curves did not push product, but it did have a great monitoring system so you could track your heart rate and make sure you were pushing yourself hard enough.

I enjoyed the resistance training paired with the cardio. I also went 5 days a week!

Now I just need to get back to it!!!

Curves is AWESOME. Not only is it a great work out (as long as you have the self discipline), but it is also an incredible community of women. Mine didn't push the vitamins or products, nor did the others I visited on guest passes.

I loved Curves so much that I worked there for a while in college. I miss it! I need to find one here.. I just moved :)

Give it a shot - most of them will give you a 2 week free trial. As long as you are pushing yourself, watching what you eat, and going at least 3 times a week you will definitely see a difference!

Thanks everyone! I didn't even realize that Curves had products. I am going to go to the one near me today and find out how much it is and everything...they have a new 24/7 package where you can go anytime of day but I don't know if it is included or if it is more.

Thanks again!
