Currently on the dining plan and so far not happy with the children's quick service

Incidentally, Universal Studios just implemented the healthy meals program at their parks.

Just wanted you all to know that the healthy options for children on the dining plan were put into place because of the mass amount of letters from parents saying their kids were eating nothing but junk on their vacations. While I agree with all of you, there is a reason why Disney did what they did with the kids' options.

I can't tell you how many times parents complained about the kids choices at 1900 Park Fare. No more chicken nuggets or any other fried food. But they replaced the chicken nuggets with chicken wings. Not healthy either.

This was a PR stunt, plain and simple. And a way to cut costs while raising the prices of the kids meals.

While I believe there were letters written about the kids meals, I doubt there were mass amounts of them.

The new "healthy" choices were a dismal failure, as witnesses that the dip it is already history.

But what will happen to all the cardiologists if this trend continues? Nobody thinks about the long term impact on medical professionals of all this healthy meals stuff. :rotfl2:

Adult meals, with their higher price tags, generally have been such that it wasn't difficult to pull together a nicely healthy meal from what was normally offered.

That's true at the table service restaurants, but I've found it extremely difficult at quick service locations.

I think that the kids options at the CS restaurants have been terrible for years. I was shocked when I went to Peco's Bill in 2001 and the only kids option was a hotdog and PBJ, no burgers. I was also shocked that they did not have a kids pizza at pizza planet.

That really made NO sense to us on our trip this November, either. We used to be in the food business, and a kid burger or pizza is not that much more expensive food costs-wise than the options that were available for kids. And-- I challenge the notion that an uncrustable is significantly healthier than a good portion size pizza. Maybe a little less fat-- but its not such a big deal.

In November we had not trouble at all with the divide and conquer approach-- DH would go thru one line and get 2 adult CS meals, and I would go thru the other with DD and get one adult CS meal.

I would NEVER have done that simply to get a bigger meal for free, but I was actually angry that they would not have a kids pizza at ... Pizza Planet or Pinocchio's!

At other places (Pecos Bills, for one) it was easier because DD and I could switch-- I ate her chicken strips and she had my burger.

We are seriously considering not doing the DDP next year because of that reason. I don't travel to a theme park to argue with my daughter over eating sloppy joes and uncrustables while all around her everyone else gets pizza.

I totally agree with you. When I looked at the updated menus and noticed that kids cannot order pizza at Pizza planet I about died. What Disney employee came up with that???? Seems so unbelievable that you would say, "hey kids let's go eat at Pizza Planet" and then explain that they really don't get to eat pizza there!! I hope something changes soon.

21 more days until WDW!!:yay:

I think people are referring to Pizzafari at AK. There is no pizza for kids there. At Pizza Planet, currently there is no kids/adult menu so everyone gets pizza.

However, given the recent enforcement crackdown on the DDP, we may see some changes to CS restaurants that currently don't offer a kids menu. I'm sure it will depend on whether they see a large increase in the use of kids credits at these places vs. others where a specific kids menu is available.

It's just a matter of where you're going. Our favorite healthy options were Sunshine Seasons (lots of things), ABC Commissary (wraps), and a lot of the hotel food courts.

Sorry. You're off-target. While neither has any trans-fat, Uncrustables has only 2g of saturated fat, while a slice of pizza has 5g of saturated fat. More than two-to-one. (The rest of the fat is either mono-unsaturated or poly-unsaturated -- the so-called "good" fats.)

I would NEVER have done that simply to get a bigger meal for free, but I was actually angry that they would not have a kids pizza at ... Pizza Planet or Pinocchio's!
Folks shouldn't let their anger compromise their honor.

Like someone else posted does anyone know of an email address where we can write in with our concerns.... I m all up in arms over the sugar free jello!!!

I was under the impression that at many CS locations, they were not allowing ANY substitution for the SF Jello (e.g., Flame Tree). Is this wrong?
They are not allowing any other dessert (adult items) but they would let you have grapes, carrots, applesauce). We did start seeing regular pudding this week at Mara in the kids fridge area so I wonder if pudding may become an option besides jello....

Did they allow that at flame tree bbq or tusker house? I'm hoping they do offer something besides sf jello we really liked those CS.
