Hi! I know that there is already the Ask Me Anytging thread. There seems to be soooooo much confusion still regarding youth activities. Please post any questions about YA and I'll do my best to answer them! Have a magical day °o°

My youngest daughter is 11. Will she be able to participate in both Oceaneer and Edge?
Also, our oldest is 19. This is our first cruise since she aged out of Vibe. Are there any activities geared for under 21?

Hi! Yes she will be able to go to both Oceaneers and edge whenever she wants. She doesn't need to choose one or the other :) there will be activities for 18-21... As they are not youth activities I'm not exactly sure when/where/what they are. I do know they are in the Navigator and that there is usually an initial gathering in the first night so everyone can get to know each other.

I can chime in a little about the activities for the over 18 group.

There is a group onboard called the 1820 Club (ages 18 through 20). It's real important that anyone interested in this group attend the first night's meeting. At that meeting you meet with the DCL CM that is facilitating the group. And activities that the group wants to do are organized then. If no one shows up, or only a very few, nothing gets planned and the group basically doesn't happen.

A lot depends on how many people in that age group want to participate in some sort of organized group activity.

I will point out that at 19 year can participate in any of the "regular" adult activities (and locations) except for drinking alcohol. So there's usually plenty to do.

My kids are DS 12 (almost 13), DD 10.5, and DD 7. If they're not full, will they allow the 10YO into Edge? How about DS into Vibe? Thanks for helping a newbie!

Hi! We just returned from our first Disney Cruise. Our 10 and 12 year olds loved Oceaneer Club and also spent time at Edge (loved it there too). The next time we cruise, our oldest will be 13 or 14. Will I be able to sign a waiver to let him go into Oceaneer if he wants to or do they not permit that?

Hi! Unfortunately we cannot allow an older child into any of the spaces. At 14 they will not want to be in Oceaneers anyway!! They will be able to go to edge and vibe

Hi! If not full they may potentially let the 10.5 year old into edge. They will not let an almost 13 year old into vibe though. Have them try out the lab and edge first. They may find lots of fun things to do in the space for their age group :)

I'm just wondering... What's the big deal about a younger child attending older programming?? The ages are set for a reason. If your child is 10 and they are bored, have them come and tell us what they might like to do and we will see if we can do it. We can always start a game of some kind of a craft activity or something. There is always a million things going on at any given time.

Were you able to discover that what that game was with the dressing up pirates on the tablets? :) (From the other thread). Thanks!

Hi! I'm sorry no one seems to know what it's called. I did find one similar on the app store called "1000 pirates-dress ups and stickers for kids"

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your cruises! What are some of the best and worst things about youth activities? These are then things we can discuss in our meetings. Thanks for your input! KT

I have a newbie question. My daughter will be 3 1/2 when we do our first Disney Cruise in May. I am worried that she will get overwhelmed and trampled on with all the older kids in the kids club. Ages 3-11 together seems so crazy to this protective mama :). If she prefers the nursery can she just go in there? I heard that you have to reserve days/time so how would I do that on the cruise and would there be availability? We will be with her most of the time...maybe and hour or two a day in kids club

Are the toilets in the Club and Lab segregated by gender? My son is currently in the process of toilet training, and should be fine by April when we cruise, but just in case I was wondering if his older sister would be able to help him. We'll be on the Magic if that makes a difference.

Thanks. (You'd think I would have noticed the toilets on previous cruises, but clearly they didn't rate highly on my things to look at list!)

Further along the lines of the "not quite 11 yrs old" crowd, should they still be registered for Oceaneer at check in, or just wait and see? Is there a pro/con to either option?

Will they have to check for capacity at Edge each time, or just the first time they want to go?

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. :)

For us, the worst thing was the huge age gap in Oceaneer. I'm sure you know how challenging it can be to keep a 10 yr old engaged and interested as well as a 3 yr old, while keeping the 3 yr old from getting trampled by ornery 10 yr olds. 7 yrs even for adults can have huge gaps in maturity and interest levels. I realize this may be out of YA's hands and in the hands of the powers that be at DCL, and I think you guys do a fine job with the task and resources at hand, (which imo is among the best things) but suffice to say, it's challenging. At 9 or 10 they're in between that age where they're not fully ready for the Tween stuff, but the younger kid stuff bores them or they feel they're too cool for kiddie stuff. I guess that's part of the reason why I too wanted to know if a child who isn't not quite 11 yrs old would be permitted into Edge just so the option is there.

Thanks again!

I love how there's always a CM ready to play with the kids. Admittedly, my kid is probably a bit better at demanding attention than some others, but she gets lots of it, and loves it.

Hi! Yes your daughter can go into the nursery but yes you do have to reserve time slots and it does cost money for her to go there. We are very protective of our younger children and I find in my experience that there are not many problems in regards to issues between big and little kids.

Yes the toilets are segregated and no she won't be able to go into the boys toilets to help. I know the toileting thing comes up a lot and it has been said that we can't go in and help the little ones but that is not true. If there are 2 of us we can help out minimally with redressing and washing hands etc. we cannot help with actual toileting though and that is when grown ups are paged.
