We arrive in a week. We are fully aware it rains every day in Florida in August, I always went this time of year as a child. But.... The weather seems to not be cooperating recently! It seems more rain & not as hot as usual. I'll take the not so steamy temps! But I'm slightly concerned about the rain. We have a weeks supply of ponchos that we purchased on Amazon & I'm going to pack an umbrella. Can anyone calm me? :)

LOL!!! Not laughing at you...just laughing because we use to always worry about the weather too. Yes, it stinks when it rains, but I have to tell you, there are tons of things you can do when it rains. Takes a little forethought but as long as you account for the almost daily 3:00pm..ish rain, the rest is just something you'll have to deal with. Personally, I will take Disney in the rain than a sunny day back home.

The weather has been iffy lately but that doesn't mean it will be as such when you arrive. My family and I arrive next Friday so we're on the same boat [no pun intended]. We ALWAYS go in July or August because of school and because I'm a teacher. Some trips it rains more than others but like I mentioned earlier, we're at Disney so it doesn't bother me as much.

So take two deep breathes and get those final details done. :-)

You'll be just fine...

Hope my attempt at calming you helped.

It is definitely hot down here. Anticipate temps in the 80's-90's, with humidity sometimes pushing it over 100. And afternoon brief showers

So for this Friday and Saturday... it says Thunderstorms alllll day! Is that correct? I know we just went over this, but previously they were scattered. How do you know down there when its just going to be a rainy day, and when you should expect just a shower?

First off, I still wouldn't necessarily trust any forecast that far off. The weather down there is so changeable. Also, if you're looking at the percentage and thinking that means all day, it doesn't. If it says 90% chance of storms, that just means that there is a 90% chance of there being storms at some point in some part of the forecast area. NOT that it is going to storm for 90% of the day. Lastly, it seems that each site has a different forecast anyway, so who knows who to really trust, lol.

Here's 4 different sites, I say pick whichever looks best to you, lol

Last half a week has been amazing, SO much better than the last two weeks. But we were too sick to take advantage of it! Boo!!! However, whether that keeps up, well, that's impossible to tell. I've seen weather forecasts change in an hour, so anything you are looking at is basically no guarantee, good or bad. However, it is FL, so it does tend to move along pretty quickly. I am starting to see gorgeous sunrises again, which went with the hot sunny weather. When it was really rainy, it would be too much cloud cover too early to see them, but they are back for now, and so are the beautiful clear nights. Fireworks have been REALLY nicely visible from home, thank goodness, as that's all the parks I'm getting for now. However, I intend to make up for it, after I get better!

You should probably just become a Meteorologist and weather cast for your local news. Just saying... haha! Thanks for explaining. :)

I live in Orlando and yes, this is absolutely normal this time of year. Do not rely on what the forecast is today for what is projected for the end of the week or next week. Or really even for the day of. lol It changes quite a bit in a short amount of time.

For example, I have been sitting on the sidelines at my sons football practice the last week with the WeatherBug app opened. According to the app, there are clear skies all around with no chance of rain, but yet those nasty little rain clouds that look like they are bringing a tropical depression are a mile away and moving in fast. lol

Rain by itself is annoying but yet really nice as it is happening. After the rain when the steam is coming off the pavement and you feel like you are in a steam room is when it is kind of uncomfortable. The good news is you will dry quickly once the sun comes out again. :)

As an additional thought, lightning is more of an issue than rain is. Please listen to CM's alerts and warnings when/if an attraction closes and you are told to take shelter. Do so immediately. Even if the sky looks beautiful and clear where you are, the warnings come at 2.5 to 5 miles radius of a lightning strike.
As you have visited in the past during this time of year, I am sure you are aware of this, but I am exceptionally cautious about this subject so please humor me. :)

But these storms don't last all day, correct? Just in the afternoon for like an hour?
This is a tough one, I used to say emphatically wait 10-30 mins, no problem. But I have experienced a few very cold, very wet rainy days where the systems lasted most of the day, or for several days, recently and I think mostly due to some potential tropical systems developing. Sometimes they let up very quickly, but in the case of the one day it was torrential and VERY VERY loud lightning and LOTS of rain, and we were all soaked, and our friends' babies and all their stuff in their stroller were soaked, we all gave up on HS around 7pm. 3 hours of that and we were basically done. I'd like to say, most of the time they move on, but sometimes they don't. This last time, we poncho'ed up for SW, and took our own advice, we all three stuck it out, sat in a frigid A/C auditorium for the concert my honey wanted to go to, and after it was done, it did clear up and we rode rides the whole evening. But then we have all three gotten sick (my husband just got on antibiotics for a week) afterward. I guess you have to determine if it feels like one of those steamy summer rains that you can see half blue sky with, or if it is just a cold, nasty, rainy, thunderstorm kind of day. Sadly, after this bout of sickies, I don't think we are going to stick it out anymore...

see above
So we shouldn't be scared by weather forecasts for later this week (thurs-sat) calling for 100% heavy storms??
