Heading to UO at the end of the month (first time staying on property - yay!), for the first time in a couple years.

What's the current status on the "empty pockets" policy for the coasters? Couldn't find much recent with a search, no apparent sticky thread.

Which attractions?

What items are required to be removed?

Are we talking "suggested", or actually "required"?

I assume that glasses with straps are always allowed?

Last visit was before any explicit policy on what you could have in your pockets, and don't want to end up being sent back to the locker.

Speaking of which, how well are the lockers working these days? On our last trip, getting the fingerprint to work after riding MiB was an agonizing experience more often than not.

Thanks for feedback here.

Glasses with straps no issue
RRR requires empty pockets

Locker sections have TM there to help guests if they need it

Thanks, McR. Are rules for the legacy coasters, like Dragons and Mummy, still as they always were, then?

I remember that Forbidden Journey was one on which you had to be careful, as there were some spots where you remained upside down long enough for things to definitely fall out of loose pockets.

(We're likely not riding RRR, and definitely not riding Hulk, considering pieces of the track have been spotted recently in other states!)

mummy isn't as strict.
i had a small umbrella in my pocket and had to remove it.
i ended up putting it in my waistband which was stupid of me.
it gouged me on the ride the entire time....

if the umbrella was completely inside the jeans pocket, that would have been fine the TM told me.
it protruded out and things like that are not allowed on the ride then.
it is possible they could fall out and end up on the track.

anything on the track triggers a shut off of the ride.

Dragons does have metal detectors now. You will need to use the lockers in the old train station near the Dragons entrance arch. It is narrow and can get cramped in there.

Thanks for the heads up. We've used the lockers at DD in the past for bags, cameras, hats, etc., but has Dragons gone to a "no keys, no phones, no coins" level of strictness?

Glad I already have my photos of the queue - sounds like that may no longer be possible.

If you are wearing cargo shorts with pockets that velcro or zip, can a phone go onto Dragons?
We normally just have our tix, cc, room key and a phone.

We are heading to UO this afternoon after a four year hiatus so some of this is catching is by surprise. Most of us wear glasses, are straps required for prescriptions glasses or is it optional?
Also it sounds like like clears or we will need a person as the keeper of keys for some rides.

Thanks.

Nothing in pockets on the three rides that have metal detectors. You will be sent back to put anything other than lanyards with tickets back into lockers.

My husband and son both wear glasses, they don't use straps of any kind and have been fine without them on all rides including the big coasters.

Glasses are not required to have a strap.
I accidently wore a ball cap up to Dragons, they just told me to sit on it (which you can also do with flip flops.)

You walk through a metal detector, and if it goes off a TM wavwes one of those sensor wands around you. You CANNOT take anything loose...no keys, coins, phones, etc. If it's just change in your pocket, they'll ask if you want to just drop it in a bin for donaions instead of going back. Everything else, you get sent back to the lockers.

And, the metal detectors are about halfway to the ride, so check carefully before entering. :)

Thanks for the heads up everyone!
Dragons, RRR and which is the 3rd ride with metal detectors?

Hulk is the 3rd ride with metal detectors. The ride is down until sometime this summer, in case you didn't know already.

Thanks pcstang! You have been so helpful to me!
(I heard about Hulk being down . :(Sad, but maybe next time!)

Thanks for the reply. We had a wonderful and exciting afternoon. Daughter was picked for the wand choosing, and we got on Gringotts with a very short line, an incredibly themed ride. Also grabbed the HE walking on in the evening. Loved Diagon Alley and still need to explore it.

Glad you are having such a lovely time, and how nice your daughter got chosen........

The trick word here is "metal detector" Anything non-metallic will not set it off. They have no authority to "frisk you" for any objects in your pockets.

Taking our first trip to Universal in May. So excited!

Please help me understand the policy regarding bringing items on attractions. The way I understand it Dragon Challenge and Rip Ride Rockit (Hulk will be closed during our trip) we will need to use a locker to store phones & camera. For all other rides are we allowed to take those items on the ride? If I have a waist pack or small cross body purse will that be allowed on rides? Is it best to try to do Universal bagless? I'm used to Disney where we have a backpack filled with sunscreen, ponchos, autograph books, etc. Thanks!!

The big coasters mentioned don't allow anything .On other rides ( Harry Potter Forbidden Journey, Gringotts, Mummy, Men in Black ) do NOT ALLOW ANY BAGS other than a waist pack ( and it has to be an unobtrusive one ) .NO crossbody bags, slings, small purses, wristlets or backpacks are allowed on the rides I mentioned.
We do a waistpack or nothing at all

We will be taking our first visit to Universal in February, and I'm quite stressed about the bags/no bags/metal detector situation. Do the metal clasps on the lanyards not cause a problem? We could just put our express passes in our pockets, but keeping the lanyard on would be much handier. Do you just tuck it inside your shirt?

I've read that the lockers are only free for a short amount of time. If we want to ride two or three times in a row, do we need to enter the locker and get a new one each time?
