Current state of Splash Mountain?

The way it works in California, it isn't truly "OSHA" that runs the Permanent Amusement Rides (PAR) department, but the parent board, DOSH that runs PAR and its sister group OSHA (along with other things, like the Elevator Inspection group) .

So OSHA is focused on Employee welfare, and while some of the other groups look at the impact of the users (aka non-employees) and insuring their safety.

Rode it in May, have ridden this ride well over 100 times, seemed to be in typical decent shape and didn't notice any breakdowns or serious animatronic issues.

I haven't noticed any issues. I do remember that last year (? year before?), they had all of critter country shut down for a few months.

Unless your the worker they are trying to protect. There are good reasons for their rules and they are meant to protect workers. While I love my Disney and want to see the repairs made, I don't want workers safety risked.

You apparently missed my previous posts about regulatory bodies. My point was that California can be a bit x 1,000 on stuff like this, for instance all of the Prop 65 warnings everywhere.

Prop 65 warnings have become a joke, everywhere you go in California you get them, even in cabinets if you rent an apartment. Since they are everywhere, they are ignored. If the rules were written better and had a stronger standard then just "maybe it does", and there were a lot less of them, maybe it would make sense.

If you look at the Disneyland website in park hours under October it say "splash mountain closed for refurbishment" I hope it's not closed when I'm there in November :crazy2:

I noticed the same thing when I was looking for October park hours (we are going 3- 7th). I know DS8 is going to be sad that it's down, but I hope this will be an opportunity to get Splash Mountain to it's previous glory.

I did. And I will agree with you on everything except OSHA --- I want our workers as safe as they can be so I don't think they ever can be too strict. Usually OSHA rules are they same for every state, unless you are covered under MSHA, NIOSH, or have accreditation for your own state plan, I have no clue what California is under.

I do agree that California does sometimes take things to extremes (especially environmental) lol!! :)

EDITED!
**I checked, California is one of the 28? States that are under their own plan. So you are correct, your standards would be greater than the Federal Standards** (my bad!)

Oh boy, this has me a little worried. Hopefully it's just for the 3 day refurbs that all rides are getting this fall. I'd hate for it to be down Oct-Nov and then have it down again during it's regular time in Feb-March. Those are times I'm going. Think positive. Think positive. Think positive!

I couldn't find this refurbishment area under October park hours on the DL website--can someone direct me to the right area! Thank you!

No worries, just trying to clarify that I wasn't putting down OSHA. I understand their purpose.

Dang it. We will be there for the first time ever Oct. 3-6. This was one of the rides I was looking forward to.

Splash is listed on the Disneyland website as being refurbed Oct. 3- Nov. 3

Really? Where did you see this? I just checked on the DL website and it doesn't say it will be in refurbishment.

Tbh, you are not missing much, hon. I'm a big Splash Mountain fan and the one at Disney World is the best! We were quite dissapointed when we rode DL's SM. :( But nothing can beat DL's POTC!!! NOW THAT RIDE WAS AWESOME!

I read it earlier in this thread. Then I check the hours for the days we will be there even though the hours are not listed at the bottom of the page has the list of closures.

Well that makes me feel a bit better. I already knew about all the trains being closed before made our plans. I was bummed about that too.....lol
I'm one of those weirdos who likes to kick back and chill and ride the train around the park. I enjoy that a lot. They were all closed down last time we went to Disney World too. Grrrrrr

Yeah, don't worry. We're going to Disneyland in October 17th and Splash Mountain was not even on our must-do-rides list. :) And I totally get you, while I'm terrified of that train (some irrational fears of mine) I really wanted to ride it with my 4yo twin cousins, it's their 1st time in Disneyland and I wanted them to experience everything. :(
