I've just been out and around Orlando for much of the day today and was struck by the huge variation in petrol (or 'gas' if you prefer the American term!) prices, depending on where you go. Close to Disney (just outside the Hotel Boulevard/Downtown Disney entrance) by Crossroads it peaked at $3.74 a gallon while, down the road (the 535, about 3 miles away) at the Hess and Wal-Mart petrol stations, it was a more generous $3.19. I suppose I shouldn't be amazed any more at how much some petrol station owners will try to rip off Joe Public, but it is a salutary lesson that they are still at it!

(And yes, I know that's still very cheap by UK standards, but it shows you can still save money if you are forewarned!)

Most of the Hess stations in my experience are a shade cheaper than most.

I have always found Race Trac on 192 competative, near old Watermania site. Crazy such a massive difference but finding it here the same more than ever before, our local is now 5p/ltr more than next garage a couple of miles away. Aways been 1 or 2p dearer but never 5p. £1.16/ltr they are charging, glad I am going to Orlando on Saturday for 2 week:goodvibes

how much is the rip off garage, just outside the crossroads chargeing.
Think they think people think it will be outrageusly dear on property so fill up just before entering.then when they round the cornner see hess prices, and realise theve been riped off

Its always amazed me the variance in prices out there, even in forecourts that are within sight of each other.
Another vote for that Racetrac on the 192 from me...theres also one on Kirkman Road I seem to remember.

The gas stations out there are out to rip off unsuspecting tourists, theres no doubt about it. US drivers have the mentality that they will drive 5 miles to save a few cents.

Its also expensive near the airports, to catch out those drivers who have to return their rental cars filled up.

The Racetrac just off Sand Lake Road on the way to the Florida Mall is always worth checking out too.

Absolutely spot on, paulh! That Chevron station in Crossroads (right next to I-4) is THE most expensive in the area ($3.74), while those on the 535 going south of I-4 are also way up there ($3.50-$3.64). The Wal-Mart on 535 is currently the cheapest today ($3.18), but the Hess next door is only one cent dearer. And, as a general rule, Hess and RaceTrac (or RaceWay as their franchised stations are) are nearly always among the cheapest. :thumbsup2

I'v heard that the hess outside the studios/boardwalk area is meant to have good prices?
