Current incentives

As I mentioned before, I just bought into AKV under the current promo (June UY.) I am receiving 160 points that have to be used by May 2009 at SSR or traded thru II. I am also receiving 160 AKV points for 2008 that have to be banked by Jan 2009. Those points can not be used until June 1, 2009 (start of my next UY.) All of those points have to be used by May 31, 2010 (the end of my 2009 UY.) I also will receive 160 2009 points which have also to be used by May 31, 2010 or banked by Jan 31, 2010. If I bank the 2009 points into 2010 I have to use those points by May 31, 2011.

So here is a abbreviated recap:

160 SSR/II points - have to be used by May 2009 (can only be used at SSR or II trade)

160 AKV points (2008) - can't be used before Kidani opens - have to be used by May 31, 2009 (unless banked - if banked by Jan 31, 2009 then have until May 31, 2010 to use)

160 AKV points (2009) - can't be used before Kidani opens - have to be used by May 31, 2010 (unless banked - if banked by Jan 31, 2010 then have until May 31, 2011 to use)

Does that make it easier to understand?

As a general rule, incentives are usually best in late December through January. This is because sales are down as a result of all the Holiday spending which took place in November and December. Companies will take strategic measures to increase sales during this very slow period. We did an add-on in mid January and the incentive was unbelievable. We bought an extra 160 points at a 10 dollar discount per point, received 160 points from the last use year, received 160 points for the present use year, and 160 Developer points. That's a whopping total of 480 points available immediately! If you're curious, the answer is YES, we will use every single point!! :rotfl:

That does sound even better than what we got. At least 160 times better! Did you have to pay MF for any of the points though?

I bought my add-on points in January and my maintenance dues started that month. I did not have to pay any "back" dues for the 160 points from last year. We used our Developer points for a week at the Grand Californian in Disneyland which saved us over $2000. The other points we received for the previous use year were used to book a week during the Food and Wine Festival in October staying at the Beach Club Villas which also saved us over $2000. We are still trying to burn the 160 points for the current year but will easily manage before all is said and done. If needed, we will just bank the extra points for another vacation. Our use year is December and this year's visits will include vacations in January, March, June, July, August (Disneyland), October, and December. We are truly spoiled by DVC. :cheer2:

Wow that is awesome! I just noticed that you are from NC. I told DH that if we lived within a days drive we would go more often, but for us it is a 3 day drive - alas I will have to suffer with once a year visits for the time being....At least I know that we will go every year since we are DVC owners. That was one of my main reasons for buying - to be assured that we would plan on a vacation once a year. Otherwise, we might not and have gone for years without one in the past. Not to happen again if I can help it!

YES! Thank you! :thumbsup2

It's a great incentive. :)

Disfanforlife-Yes, living in North Carolina makes it quite easy to zip down to Orlando so often. We don't ever drive because there are nonstop flights from here to Orlando and you're only in the air for an hour. We have actually taken 6:00am flights out of here, checked in to the hotel, and been at the front gate of the Magic Kingdom right before the park opens at 9:00am. How is that for magic!!! We usually visit Disneyland only once a year because of the long flight but the upcoming DVC Villas at the Grand Californian may inspire us to visit a little more often.

That is awesome! We finally made up our minds - we were debating driving vs. flying this year and decided to fly. I found out that there is a direct/non stop flight for us from an airport only an hour from our home. This made my hubby very happy and so we are looking forward to our 3 hour non stop flight!

I have a question about the bolded part above. You say the 2008 AKV points can not be used before Kidani opens, which happens in May of '09 from what I've been reading. Then you say they have to be used by May 31, '09 unless you bank them. So, if you don't bank them, you can only use those points in May '09? Since that is when Kidani opens? Or can you use them at another resort/cruise, etc... between June '08 and May '09?

Nope, you can't use them anywhere before the resort opens - so really everyone who buys in this deal does have to bank them. But, I think that is why they are giving the developer points at SSR to make up for not being able to use your 08 points until 09. That is what we are doing - going to SSR in Nov. 2008, banking our 08 points and then using them in Nov. or Dec. 09

My thoughts exactly! We will be banking most of our 2008 points. We will actually be checking into AKV on May 31, 2009 and using the rest in June 2009. I will be reserving the rooms at the end of this June and then banking the remainder of the points to be used after June 1, 2009 (in our case starting June 1.)

I just purchased so now I am an official DVC member. The incentive we were given because we only bought in at 100 points was $8 off per point. We received a Dec. UY with Kidani. We are not required to pay dues until May 2009 when Kidani opens. We are very excited and glad they offered the 100 point buy in, it is a way to get us in the door at least. :)

I've been a member since early in 2001 and I don't believe I've ever seen anything like the "SSR 2008 points" incentive. Am I wrong? Has there been something similar in the past?
