So we head to the world on Tues. We are planning to hit AK in the evening and do ROL at 630pm and get in line for FOP after that. AK closes at 8pm and there is another performance of ROL at 745. Will there be a mass exodus after the 1st ROL? I'm just curious if anyone has an idea about what to expect for the wait time for FOP in this scenario. We figure it will be maybe around an hr...I've seen people report on the boards that the best recommendation if you have to wait in line for FOP is to do it towards the end of the day. If you are there now or in the past week, what was your experience if you did something similar to what we plan to do? TIA!

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

There won't be a huge exit like after Hea or Fantasmic, but there will be quite a few leaving

For FoP your best bet is rope drop, then followed by as close to park close as possible. I'd anticipate a 45-120 min wait

We picked park close because I read on the boards that they were redirecting non-FP people at rope drop to the FP queue so that you missed part of the ride queue pre-show. Is that still the case?

A few thoughts:

1) I can't speak to the post-ROL crowds and the effect on FoP, but generally the wait at the end of the evening has been reported as pretty good. RD may get you on the ride faster once you're in Pandora - but you'll spend some time waiting at the gates and on the bridge before you get in.

2) I won't say that they haven't opened the FP queue at RD to move the first standby people through, but I've done RD a couple of times and never saw that. The chain stayed up on the FP line until 9 am and everyone at RD was lined up in the standby queue. Even if they did, there are so many people at RD that they couldn't keep the FP side open long without backing it up towards Africa.

3) Now for the main question - I wouldn't worry about missing anything in the standby queue (and you don't miss any pre-show). Most of what you'll miss is the concrete path leading from Pandora to Africa where you'll stand for much of the wait. The best part of the standby line is the outside part that winds under the floating mountains and past the waterfalls - beautiful work they did there and it does "prepare" you for the ride. Inside, you'll have less time in the cave (not terribly interesting - some cave paintings and artifacts hanging from the rock), you'll be a row removed from the window to the lab (if you like pressing your face up against glass trying to see into a dark mostly featureless room then this might be disappointing), and then the FP/standby merge occurs and you're in the sterile concrete "bunker". In all honesty, I was far less impressed with the queue than I thought I'd be after reading previews. It's well done but not essential. As for the preshows? There are none in the queue. But you'll get two once you start the ride. Prepare to get to know Dr. Stephens very well. You'll wish you could skip him a few minutes into all his tests.

Thanks so much for the info. We have a FP for later in the week but plan to wait in the line at park close the first day we are there. So either way, bases are covered. Worst case scenario, if we decide we can’t stomach the long wait we will just do our FP. Thanks again for all the info!

We were at AK yesterday. Got in the FOP standby line around 7:30, as ROL was starting. Park closed at 8. Wait time posted was 120 minutes. We got on the ride after one hour 50 minutes. It was mostly a pleasant wait, with Pandora all lit up. We were politely escorted out of the park at the conclusion of the ride, around 9:30 pm.

We visited AK last night and were able to get FP+ for Navi. I have a child with sensory issues so we used the Rider Swap. After Navi the plan was to jump in line for FoP, but the posted wait was 160 min and the line looked every bit of it. We are traveling with a single childless couple who did enter the line at 8:40p and waited 2h5min.

The rest of us decided to rope drop this morning. We pulled into the parking lot at 8:10a in line by 8:20a and exited FoP at 9:40a. To me hands down rope drop is the way to go.
