Current FL Car Seat Law?

Florida Law says..
Children must use a carseat until they reach 4 years and 40lbs. This from the NHSTA 2001 State Guidelines. But, I understand that Florida's new child seat law as of July 1 will be either 9 years of age or 4 foot 9 inches in height. From July to Jan they will warn....after Jan they will ticket.

Anyone have the details on this?

Also, has anyone heard that booster seats without a five-point harness, just the lap belt are NOT allowed on planes?

Yes, it's true that booster seats that are used with a regular seat belt and NOT a 5 point harness are not allowed on aircraft. The seatbelts on aircraft are only lap belts which wouldn't work with a booster seat without a 5 point harness. Also, be aware that if your booster seat has arm rests, it also isn't approved for aircraft use, regardless if it has a 5 point harness or not. I did a lot of research on this before we bought our DD booster. If you have any questions, consult the owner's manual for your booster, it will tell you whether it's certified for aircraft.

Looks like we may have to get a booster for my 6yo! Honestly though...keeping a kid in a car seat until the age of 9 seems a bit excessive. They might as well just start making all seatbelts 5 point harnesses.

The bill did pass the legislature, but Governor Bush vetoed it, so no need to worry about having to bring the booster seat along for your older child. This law will not be going into effect this summer. Here's the article from the Orlando Sentinel.

Thank goodness that didn't pass. I don't think there's anyway I'd get my 8 year old into a booster seat. I think he'd rather stay home than be forced into one of those.
